Marxism has been consigned to the Dustbin of History. Are people still collecting paychecks to spout that non-sense?
Every economicist on the planet, to begin with.
There are some parts of Marx's theories which are simply integral to modern economics and the collapse of the USSR hasn't changed that (Marx's theories predicted that collapse in any case).
But yeah, this is what "exploited" means in the legal sense in Brazil when they say "sexual exploitation". It means you perform a sex act for pay and that someone gets a slice of that money. Whether that someone is a pimp or the owner of the termas who takes his cut out of room rental fees is immaterial. "Exploitation" doesn't legally mean "slapping the ***** around and taking her money".
But as I said, this is the same sort of "exploitation" that occurs when a person cleans a room and pockets 5R$ out of the 80 charged the client.
euro, great report thanks. man, i have to say i am amazed at how prices are going up. i know inflation is running at around 5% per year in brazil, but this is crazy. a r$550 evening is probably around us $300 which is just not cheap. you can't be throwing down those every night -- well, at least i can't.
who is paying this in brazil these days, is what i want to know. has the booming economy floated enough local boats that locals are in the money? i would imagine the strong real is keeping away many of the foreign tourists.
well, i think that l'uomo is following a dangerous path to a flat-out wrong business model. they have fewer customers; so they ramp up prices to keep profits high; which leads to even fewer customers. i have been there when i was the only guy in the boite for at least an hour straight. now, this may seem like paradise, 1 guy and 20 smoking-hot girls. but i cannot service them all :d for the girls there is then too low an earning potential. as soon as i settle on one or two (or perhaps three ...) that i party with, the rest of them has no incentive to be up and about, to dance, and so on. so the mood becomes rather dull.
l'uomo is at its best when there are about 10 to 15 guys in the boite. then all girls make great efforts to be noticed, and there is a fantastic party atmosphere.
on sunday ipm and t69 were meeting up with me at l'uomo. when vonia sat down with me and asked for a drink, she got whiskey (20r) & red bull (16r). i don't mind to do this occasionally, but ipm pointed out correctly to me that this one drink cost me more than what i paid to have 20 minutes of hot sex the night before at vm. food for thought ...
of course, i also had another girl, [CodeWord901], sitting on my other side, and she was also drinking on me (cocktail bellini, bargain at 20r). yes, since i got there at 4:30 the entrance fee was only 30r. but since i was drinking with two girls, the combination of drinks and entrance fee ran about 200r by the time i had to leave at 7 pm. which made it more expensive than the previous night at centaurus, where i paid 120r entrance, but then had incredibly cheap drinks (and a lot of them!). in other words, it is much easier to be a "big spender" and buy lots of drinks for the girls at centaurus than it is at l'uomo now. big problem for l'uomo in the long run.
of course, the 40-min sessions with [CodeWord901] and vonia were 240r each, and so much more reasonable than the centaurus prices, but still ...
for me the prices are still not a problem, because i come to rio so rarely that i can go all out every time. i don't mind spending about $2k on "fun" on each of those outings, which is much less than what i have left at poker tables in vegas on occasion, for example. but i still do not want to get the feeling that i am being hosed. i am not so much price driven, but adventure driven when i go explore other venues like vm. but i consider l'uomo my "home" in rio, at least on the weekends, and so it is sad that they have decided to go with the business model i described above. maybe one of you regulars at l'uomo could discuss the benefits of lower drink prices (more volume sales, more guys, happier girls, better business ...) with management ...
Exactly. More precisely from Paris. A city that any single girl on the planet dreams to visit.
Say the word "Paris" and watch a girl eyes light up as her legs spread apart ever so slightly in an uncontrolled response.
This is a joke, right? Not even in Malaysia, home of the world's most fugliest people could this be considered a model. The Luomo business model just sums up the was they do business in Brazil. No one is going to change anyones mind, especially someone from outside Brazil.
Euro I agree with your post completely, but as Bubba says they aren't going to change, sad really.
Been chatting with a few of the girls this week. They are not getting the return from their efforts at the terma. A few a have just decided to throw in the towel. The termas pimps are now forced to recruit at lower quality. For those of us gentleman that have been on the P4P circuit for years have noticed the drop in quality at the termas. It only effects the QTF crowd, for those that have been around for a while and have a bit more knowledge, it is working in our favor. Bring on the ass grabbing "pão duro" F**K whits. Just clears the field and less money for the pimps.

At least L'uomo and MC offer specials that can lower your price. Go in early and session before 5, I think, and they waive the entrance at L'uomo. (They have always had a sliding scale on the entrance depending on how many sessions you do. If I remember correctly, after 3 you don't pay the entrada.) MC has the frequent fliers deal that is supposed to give free entrance after you spend R700. However, I have spent that and haven't gotten my discount yet. Note to self to pursue this next time. Other places just set the price and that is it.
I'm thinking of Centaurus here who still insist on the money up front. If I go there, I don't argue anymore because it is pointless and gets me in a bad mood which is not what you want if you are about to blow a large amount. I just pay it and go in because I am sure I will find a stunner there. But it still pisses me off if I think about it, just the principle of the thing and the arrogance. But, one thing for sure, it keeps out the gropers. Maybe 4X4 should give it a try. But maybe they make a lot of money that way.

I have never paid the the full amount up front. In fact you are the only one that I have heard of that has had to pay it after asking it to be waived. Don't know why this is.
The only time I was asked to pay the full amount upfront I didn't go in. That night they said "we are so full we don't have the time to keep having guys come down and pay the difference before they take the girl". My friend went in and was totally ripped off. He paid all upfront, then grabbed a girl after about 30 minutes and booked a cabine. He was still waiting after another hour for the cabine to be free, he couldn't wait any longer because his girlfriend was due to get to his apartment after work. Do you think he got a refund, of course not. They are complete assholes at the front counter.

Maybe it is my shifty appearance. I have actually walked out twice when they first started this crap on me but like you say, they are completas at the front desk. I explained to them that I had been coming there for a long, long time, more than 15 years, but they didn't care if I walked or not. So, I decide if I am going to go or not and just put it out of my mind.
They have actually been doing this to customers for a long time. I remember years ago them asking for it up front from some guys coming in as I was leaving. I don't know how I got to this low status but I am there. Maybe it is because I have become so good at dressing down, they think I don't have the money?

Centaurus entrance fee
It may simply have something to do with when you arrive, not how. We were told on the phone that if we made it in before 9 pm, they could waive the full fee for us, and we would only have to pay the 120R entrance fee. I can see that they think that nobody can withstand several hours of the garota onslaught inside. Whereas when you arrive at 11 or midnight and do not find something suitable right away, you may be tempted to just not have a session. In order to avoid this, they may insist on the full fee including the session fee much more stringently for the late arrivers.
... just a theory ... but based on one single data point ...

Mongers-
I've probably been to Centaurus about ten times over the past year and each time they never made an issue about only paying the entrance fee. They certainly do not offer up the possibility of only paying the entrance fee, as upon entering the receptionist states it is R$ 450 (or whatever the price du jour is) which includes the services of one girl. About half the time I wasn't sure if I was going to session (hangover, feeling unmotivated) so I requested to only pay the entrance fee and they never hassled me about it. Interestingly enough, each time I paid the entrance fee I did end up taking a girl and thus had to go pay at the front desk before going with the girl.

Suerte,
Rock Harders
Gentlemen, knowing Centaurus and its managers since 1995 I can say that the rule for newebies is: pay the whole entrance fee before (pay per view. And then take 1 girl to have 40'cabine sex), but, if they see you several times and realized that you spend enough money to be considered a regular they only charge the plane ticket entrance (actually R$ 120) and you pay all the girls/drinks when you leave.
To be honest in my experience, having been there more than 200 times, it's very difficult to leave Centaurus without any action (more than 80/100 carioca girls everyday, 10 % of them are 8-10').
Regards
D. C.

Balcony/Dolce Vita. Check typical prices here to make sure you're not getting ripped off. The Zona Sul termas prices you see below are not representative of the cost of good sex in Rio. Your first day in town, freerange girls will smell the newbie on you for a km and may try to play you with high prices and/or lowered services. They hang out in that part of town specifically because guys in that area can be typically worked for more money than elsewhere in town. IMO, best to start elsewhere to get off to a gain a footing and then try Zona Sul. I'd recommend that you take the 455 Copacabana-Meier bus from Ave. Nossa Senhora Copacabana and hop off after Candelária Church, can't miss the big dome. Hail a cab to take you 5 mins to 4x4, 44 Buenos Aires. Take a girl back before 5 and the entrance fee is waived. RTF for more info. If you start out this way, you're almost guaranteed a good session, plus you've learned the bus to the many low priced treasures of the Centro venues and VM. Then when you go back to Copa, you'll be oriented and have good baseline expectations on quality and service when you deal with your freerange girls. Don't be afraid to send a girl back with just taxi money if she's not meeting providing the 4x4 level of service at the typical ladybar prices given here by the ladybar guys, there are lots of fish in this sea.

And what did they propose to do for cash when they threw in the towel? My employer keeps the about 70% of my revenue as well, but I still make a lot of money relative to the average person, like a GDP, and am not about to quit and go work at a juice bar or something. And I wouldn't call it exploitation, even though I end up having a lot of sex due to work, sometimes it's with girls that annoy me or might be dangerous to my health, and I get to keep only a small fraction of the money that I'm bringing in. :)
