La Cheminee allows in single men on Wednesday nights, but you need to call and reserve your place as they only allow in a limited number. Le Pluriel allows in single men every night.
It's difficult to say which is best as on different nights the experience at each will be different. Obviously weekend nights, Fri. and Sat, at all the clubs are the best. Still on bad wintry nights that can also be affected. In any case nights are definitely better than the afternoons.
The Weds. La Cheminee is usually a winner, but obviously depends on the women who come that night and their openesss.

Unfortunatelly the scene in Aix is very dead, you can find occasionnally SW on the road to Gardanne but very rarely.

Salty Dog, there are literally thousands of hotels in Paris. I recommend Smooth Hound or Comfort Inns or Tulip Inns to search for lodging. My favorite hotels ( the GIS and the Le Ste. Maurice) are on the east side away from all the hustle and bustle. Also very reasonable as they are about half to one- third what the comparable hotel costs in central Paris. The GIS is within a block of the RER A stop (excellent light rail).
