Can I bring travelers' checks? Does the banks in Santo Domingo cash traveler's checks? Do you know any bank that will cash traveler's checks?
I have never used travelers checks in Dom Rep. You will be visiting Santo Domingo a large city with many banks. Lots of tourists visit Santo Domingo and I am sure some of those tourists use travelers checks in Santo Domingo.
You may want to call the company that issued the travelers checks and ask them if they know of specific banks or other places in Santo Domingo where the travelers checks can be cashed. Sorry I can't help out further regarding travelers checks.
OK, the fruits of RTFF is here. I'll be in DR, for the first time, from March 3rd Thurs 2pm to March 7th Mon 1pm for business / pleasure. I'll be staying at the Hotel Barcelo Capella, but will monger in Juan Dolio, Boca Chica, and Santo Domingo as schedule permits.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
In post 4959 I wrote some information about getting to la romana from juan dolio.
The part of the highway between the airport and boca chica is dirty, don't base your impression of the Dom Rep on that rather non-scenic section of roadway (you may however see some pretty chicas along that section of road). From the airport to boca chica is about a fifteen minute ride. You will be going to Juan Dolio so you will drive past boca chica. When coming from the airport, to enter into boca chica from the main road you have to make a right at a traffic light (there will be a gas station on the corner, probably a Shell Station) it is usually a busy intersection.
After that traffic light, the road to Juan Dolio is wide open, you will see very few 125cc motorcycles and very few pedestrians on the highway between boca chica and juan dolio, mostly plant life on both sides of the road, no traffic lights. Your driver will exit the highway where a sign says "Boulevard" Juan Dolio. The Boulevard is well lit up at night, you will see a sign for Guayacanes Beach and a little while after that another sign for Playa Juan Dolio (on the right).
Barcelo Capella is located at the eastern end of Juan Dolio off of the Boulevard. If you sit on the passenger side of the vehicle near a window, after you see the the street sign for Playa Juan Dolio (playa is the Spanish word for beach) , you should see the sign for showgirls on the right hand side after a small side street, about two blocks after showgirls you should see a small sign for el cuacho, also on the right hand side of the road. On your left you will see a wall and then the gated entrance for Metro Country Club and a sign for Embassy Suites Hotel. The Hilton Embassy Suites hotel is located inside Metro Country Club. I have stayed there in the past and I have also entered when I wasn't staying there. Metro Country Club has some nice homes with a golf course. Being a tourist you can enter, but they will probably not allow in a motoconcho (may not be worth it if you have to walk from the front security gate to see the golf clubhouse or visit the embassy suites hotel, it will be a long walk).
Your driver on the Boulevard will eventually make a right turn off the Boulevard and drive about 3 blocks on a side road to get to the entrance of the Capella.
Usually near the entrance of most all inclusive hotels will be a board listing the taxi prices between different towns and cities, those prices are for tourist taxis and those taxis are usually newer and nicer, but the prices will not be the cheapest. A guy driving a beat up 1990 Toyota Corolla taxi may be able to offer a better rate.
The Gua Gua from San Pedro de Marcoris to Santo Domingo costs 100 pesos. The gua gua from Juan Dolio to Boca Chica should be less than 100 pesos (you can ask people in Juan Dolio where to catch the gua gua to Boca Chica and the price).
I don't know any good short term room rentals in boca chica. Boca Chica has numerous small hotels, some with prices that may start at around $25 per night (from what I saw on the internet). I know a little bit about Boca Chica. There are guys on this board who know a lot more about boca chica.
If you want to travel into Santo Domingo, Helpmann has written a post about how to get into Santo Domingo from Boca Chica using the bus / gua gua. In Juan Dolio you can ask a Dominican how to get to Santo Domingo using gua guas. You may have to take a gua gua from Juan Dolio to boca chica and maybe change gua guas in boca chica for one going to santo domingo.
Least expensive hotel that I know of, close to the casas and coppa discoteca, in santo domingo will be the hotel navarro. Also other hotels in that same area for around $40-$60 per night. The cabanas are not close to the casas, unless you have a car, you will have to pay a taxi round-trip (to and from the cabanas) then the cost of the cabana, it may come out to be $40 and you will waste time with a chica while driving to the cabanas. If you find some chica in 305, satin or sky high, you can rent a short term room at the Navarro for around 800 pesos. Baby Dolls has rooms on site as I believe does lapsus. GBP and playboy palace have rooms on site. For streetwalkers you will need a room as well as for Coppa putas.
Any questions, ask away and have a good trip.
Ps: have at least $10US when you get off the airplane in Dom Rep, you will have to buy a $10 tourist card before going through customs.

Santo Domingo
Juan Dolio is not teeming with pros, unlike in Sosua where a blind and deaf guy could easily find pros. In Juan Dolio you may want to work all the angles, to get what you want (I. E. Chatting up locals) , without overpaying or getting ripped off.
To get to La Romana from Juan Dolio, the cheapest way is to take gua guas (mini buses). The locals use gua guas to travel this route. You can ask just about any Dominican in Juan Dolio where to get the gua gua into San Pedro de Marcoris (just about all the workers in the Barcelo Cappella Hotel live in San Pedro de Marcoris) , maybe you can ask a pretty waitress at the capella about the gua guas and maybe she can meet to show you when she gets off work (the Capella probably has their own bus they use to transport their workers to san pedro de marcoris).
On the main road in San Pedro de Marcoris there is a gua gua station, it looks like a bus station. When you have entered San Pedro de Marcoris using a gua gua (I would not take a motorcycle taxi, motoconcho, from Juan Dolio to San Pedro de Marcoris, too long of a ride as a passenger on a 125cc motorcycle). You want to get off at the gua gua station that will be on the right hand side of the road about a half mile after you have crossed the bridge that leads to the roundabout with the monument and metal sculptures.
Once at the gua gua station in san pedro de marcoris you will want to ask for an Express gua gua to La Romana. An express gua gua will make no or few stops between San Pedro de Marcoris and La Romana, this portion of the trip should take 45-60 minutes. The stop in La Romana will probably be the gua gua station that is on the main road in la romana. While on the gua gua, if you sit on the driver's side near a window you will see the sign for Deseo and for Scores on the left hand side of the road that enters la romana. From the gua gua station in la romana you can take a motoconcho back towards scores / klimax (probably most motoconcho drivers will still refer to the place as Klimax). Deseo will be further down that main road. Located on the other side of the street from the la romana gua gua station and down a block or two, is Le Pusse Car Wash bar that supposedly has chicas available. On the main road somewhat near the side street that leads to Scrores / Klimax, I saw a sign for a Cabana.
Cabanas are short term love motels, you enter through an open garage door opening, close the garage door, enter the room and the phone will ring. You can order beer, soda and some have food available to purchase. Look around and you will see a small door in the wall about four foot above the floor. Eventually you will hear a knock on that door or a buzz and when you open the door whatever food or beverages you ordered will be there, along with a plastic bag with a small towel. 2 condoms, a small bar of soap and a package of pussy soap. Inside a black portfolio type thing will be the bill.
Cabanas usually have nicer and more expensive rooms near the entrance with names like Ejecutivo or Presidential. The less expensive rooms are usually further inside the cabana complex.
The cabana I saw on the main road in La Romana did not look very fancy, my guess a 4 hour room rental there would cost around 500 pesos. The worker at the cabana cannot see you and you don't see him, put your payment in the portfolio and wait for the change.
There are a few lower priced hotels in La Romana, I believe I posted some links to those hotels in the La Romana thread.
Tony is a fun bar in La Romana with big ass bartenders who come down from standing on plastic presidente beer crates to dance / grind you for a song. I was told that some pros can be found in Tony Bar. Marinellys is the nicest bar in la romana, when I visited over a year ago. In profesionales bar, a small local bar, I met two dominicana sisters, who I hung with one day while I was visiting Bayahibe, they were nice and friendly.
I have not been to Deseo and have not been in Le Pusse car wash bar. I visited Klimax twice on two different nights with two different wingmen, on the same trip. Asking prices are not cheap there, $100US and up. My wingman put one chica up on the bar to sit in front of him with her legs open (he played with her pussy) while he had a really cute Santiago chica standing to his right (he was diddling her tota with his other hand). I would have considered paying that Santiago chica $100US.
I had some chicas visit me in Bayahibe that trip, so I was tranquilo and in no great hunt to pay for play. With my wingman to my right playing with two chicas, a tall morena sat next to me and was stroking my dick above my pants, while I sat at the bar. We bought the chicas beer.
Venues change, chicas change venues, so there is no guarantee if you travel to la romana whether it will really be worth it. One wingman I have hates being in a car when he is in rep dom. I really don't mind traveling around for the hunt.
I can't guarantee if it will be worth it for you to travel to la romana. As Bq Ribs previously said, first check out the scene in Juan Dolio. It can be really hot in DR which makes walking around in the blazing sun somewhat uncomfortable. If I do 20% of the stuff I have planned before each trip, I am lucky. Plans change, circumstances may come up where your plans may change (I. E. Thunderstorms may make you want to stay close to your hotel).
If you have lots of energy and want to explore all you can while in DR, then go for it.
Is Tony's bar in La Romana on the main drag? I think you mention its location on a previous post but I could not find the post.
Is Tony's bar in La Romana on the main drag? I think you mention its location on a previous post but I could not find the post.
I posted photos of the outside of Tony Bar and Urban Bar. I made a mistake in my post. Tony is a smaller bar across the street from Urban bar. Tony had about ten chicas sitting inside, I guess who work there, with like two customers.
Urban Bar is across the street from Tony (named after Tony from Scarface). Urban Bar has about 20 big ass bartenders who stand on plastic presidente beer crates. When I visited Urban it was packed. They sell large bottles of presidente beer with small plastic cups. The bartenders in Urban will come and dance / grind you for the length of a song.
I knew very little about la romana when I first visited. I had a rental car but did not know where the bars or pay for places were located. I paid two motoconcho guys to show me places. The motoconcho guys, I followed in my car. One motoconcho guy came into Urban with me (I was with a wingman) and he drank some presidente beer that I bought (large bottle of presidente was about 75 pesos, $2US). That motoconcho guy took out his cell and showed me some photos of chicas he had available for pay for play. I paid another motoconcho guy to show me where Klimax was located.
From what I remember Urban and Tony are on side streets (I only visited one night at Urban and Tony)
Tony and another bar had about 10 chicas in the place that were not serving drinks, maybe they are there for dancing with customers, I never found it. I really haven't seen that type of bar setup in any other Dominican city.
Donde estas las chicas? =Where are the women?

Greedy is avaro or tacaņo. In Puerto Rico we also use a street word for greedy: maceta. A funny expression or phrase we use for a greedy person is "Jaosousa camina con los codos". (Jaosousa walks with his elbows) An non verbal expression for greedy is to touch one of your elbows with your hand a couple of times.
Maceta=Puerto Rican slang for who hesitates spending his / her own money.
Avaro=A miser, a person unwilling to spend money.
Tacaņo=tightwad or cheapskate.
Not what I am looking for in Spanish.
Maybe, codicioso=greedy.

Probably not

Can I bring travelers' checks? Does the banks in Santo Domingo cash traveler's checks? Do you know any bank that will cash traveler's checks?
The American owner of BB's stopped taking travelers checks last year. He cited in one of his newsletters that the banks in his area stopped accepting them. Don't know why. Its possible the banks in Santo Do might not have this policy but I wouldn't chance it. Its a bit nerve racking to leave mucho cash in your hotel room's safe, I realize. I brought $2000 USD cash with me for my last trip and fretted a bit about that but I was in a safe hotel in Sosua and of course had no concerns with BB's security, but in SDQ I would be somewhat concerned as I haven't been in town for a while and don't know the various chica friendly hotels that are frequently mentioned in earlier posts.
Let's see what the others have to say about this. Anybody?
One Dominicana chica told me this last trip that many Dominican men consider light beer a girly beer and won't drink light beer so as not to be seen as feminine.
I hought tacaņo was cheap. I need something to say to a chica whsks for too much, remind her that their is no virtue in being greedy. (press alt 164 at the same time for: ņ)
OK, Michael the Italian / German partner of Yani is out for you. I will ask Yani to get another chica, dressed in a policia nacional uniform for you. I don't bother with travelers checks and very rarely ATM's any longer I just bring cash and exchange money as needed, I always bring home a couple to a few thousand pesos so when I return I am not pressured to change money as soon as I get to the DR. My advise to anyone that is uncomfortable bringing cash then use ATM's but be prepared to deal with the possibility that the nearest ATM is out of money or not working.

The mansion is a brothel in Santo Domingo, zona oreintal, one block off carretera mella in a very nice house with themed rooms, to use for sex. I was told they are open 24/7. Paco Club is located near the airport, owner speaks English. Pacos (Grands) is at the beginning of El Conde in Zona Colonial, Santo Domingo, usually always has pros sitting inside.
The new photo tool on this site works good, I can easily repost photos that I previously posted on this site, Kudos to Jackson.
Exactly,"tu pides mucho" "estas pidiendo mucho dinero" (you are asking for too much money) sounds right and not offensive.
I've trained My live in girlfriend with those words, she has a debit card for my account down there and she only takes out money to pay the bills.
She contributes a little from her manicuring gig, but she only touches my money to pay my bills when I'm not down there.
I had another girl on the side from Santa Ana, when I broought her to the capital she wanted a dog. 2,000 for one of those teacup dogs, I got it. Then she wanted a bikini, I got that then she wanted a tatoo, I started to complain a little so she slowed down. She asked for a Blackberry I told her tu pides mucho, she got upset and wanted to go home. So I brought her back to her mothers she then begged me not to leave her.
If you give a little, it's more than they get from local guys and you can string them along for awhile and thy may pretend to be pissed, but they are better off with you than without. And face it there are others waiting to take their place.
