I walked through closed-down Patpong today, and I'm sad to report the venerable Star of Light BJ bar is gone. Not just closed (all the bars are), but the sign near the door is gone, and there are no indications of its existence. Used to have Line contact from 2 girls who worked there, but they're no longer reachable either.
SOL was perhaps the only remaining true BJ bar in Bangkok, where you could get service out in the open and enjoy your drink while watching other punters getting sucked off or more. All the other BJ bars made you go to a cubicle, which some people prefer, but is not the same and takes the unique bit of fun away.
In June, after the initial lockdown, SOL moved to a new location, still on the same side of soi Patpong II. They also increased prices and increased privacy (service only behind a curtain, not in the open), a great move to turn off the few remaining regulars. I assume they terminated the lease for the new place. Don't know if they'll reopen at some point, perhaps in a new location, but it seems unlikely.
It is starting to hit home how this crisis is likely to be a watershed moment, not just a temporary hiccup. Mongering scene in Thailand, and probably most other places, will be significantly different once Covid goes away, and not in a good sense.
