To be honest. I could tell LB most of the time. But not always.

I once met a cute girl, fairly petite and based on all the criteria on the list, she was definitely a she.

Never would have been able to tell until she didn't want to lie to me and told me she was a he. Complete with total sex change operations.

It can be a challenge to tell. I hadn't thought about hip to shoulder ratio. Of the ones mentioned, I've found these the most useful.

Asking them (not 100% honest, though).

Voice (pitch, but also talking weird to cover it up).

Height (the legs more so than the torso).

Exaggerated feminine gait.

Adam's apple.

Some other signs:

Hair. Women find it easier to grow long, thick hair.

Facial skin. Women are more likely to have smooth skin.

Breasts. Many ladyboys are carrying around big fake boobies with unnatural roundness.

Elbows. Women's arms can bend a bit more at the elbow (like, more than 180 degrees, as if bent backwards).

Aggression. Ladyboys are less subtle, and will more readily grab you or approach you.

Thickness. Men have thicker bones and muscles in the arms.

A few others I've heard of but never tried to use:

Supposedly "a woman's index finger is longer than the finger next to her pinkie; with men, it's the opposite. ".

Men have bigger heads (I think even 10% more than you'd expect just from being taller).

If a bit overweight, women carry it more in the butt and thighs (men more in the stomach).

"higher eyebrows, fuller lips, and a rounder jawline with a more pointed chin. " (men: square face; women: oval).

There also might be something to just going with your instinct.

In Thailand if the girl appears to be especially happy to be a female, really strutting her stuff publicly, proud enough of her boobs and butt to wear clothes that accentuate and display them, working it in the way she walks and poses her body, it is 99% certain that's a man.

You can use that premise to differentiate between a real Thai female and a Ladyboy from a block away and chances are you'll nail it, no need to wait until you get a closer look or hear their voice.

The only tell I have is that it was too easy when we discussed service. It was in front of Thermae but she was with friends that seem to be females. I decided to call the front desk when she was taking a shower and found out she has a male ID. She told me she borrowed the ID and let me examined her naked. I still could not tell but I decided to let her go.

Another time, I met one who is tall for a female in front of Hyatt near Thermae. She claimed she worked at RB4 and showed me picture of her working. She just finished a short time date but did not want to go back to the bar. Her ID looked fine but because she was tall, too eager and tell me it's a good deal so I did not take her.

As other posters noted, from what I can tell, they're usually tall, aggressive, cheap, and overly feminine. Normally can spot them quite easily, but not always.

The old saying, when in doubt, toss it out is appropriate in this case.

Its the small lbs that can fool you as well as they throw you off guard. Despite the tall ones being obvious.

That's pretty funny that you called the front desk to verify the sex of your companion. And it's funnier too that your companion offered you the totally lame explanation that she borrowed her male friends ID. Who does that? If it was a female and she lost her ID, I am quite sure that borrowing another ID from the same sex would be the more likely attempt. It appears that you must have had reservations from the beginning so your instincts were correct.

As far as looking at her naked, this person was obviously a post-op and usually the surgical work down there is not so great so perhaps you decided not to look so close, which I understand given the circumstances. But the few pics I have seen don't come close to looking like the real thing.

For what it is worth, most of the 'girls' outside Thermae are LB's because they are not allowed inside and hang out in front hoping to pick up an unsuspecting tourists. Some of them are pretty hard to determine their gender though obviously the doormen there can tell.

Ok, maybe they drop it by 500 baht or so depending on how busy the bars are. And I'm talking about basic, standard covered FS and likely no BBBJ+CIM option. Some of those girls pretend to be oblivious to what costs and service levels were for girls of their middling level of looks way back during normal times.

And there are apparently enough punters in town willing to pay those rates and accept that level of service to keep those girls busy and happy.

Hopefully, the go ahead for all bars to reopen will soon throw a little cold water of competitive reality onto the situation.

But since the tourist traffic began to slow to a trickle about a year ago and, of course, when Thermae itself is closed as it has been for weeks, most of the girls standing outside Thermae are real girls. They either can't go into the bar (because it's closed) or simply found their best chance of any viable customer seeing them at all that night is to get out of that nearly empty basement bar and stand outside on the sidewalk.

There are still LBs standing outside under current conditions. But maybe only 10% of the hookers standing outside as of last week were LBs.

I walked by a few times but everything seemed shut down completely. (Also crazy prices and still wonder who is paying them when many decent looking girls along Sukumvit are ok with 1000).
