I am going to POA for three months starting in December. Does anyone have monthly rental rates for this city. I am just looking for decent in a safe area. Also I would concider sharing a apartment or house to save a little money. I would hope that the rates in POA will be cheaper than in Rio. I am looking to spend in the $500 to $700 range. Is that possible?
Has there been a major price drop in ticket prices for a trip to Rio for anyone else since the hotel shooting? I pondering a first trip in October and with these lower prices I might man up and try visiting this country that seem oh so great.

Perhaps if you do have info on POA and the rentals costs there you could just give me your thoughts on being able to find a suitable apartment (small) for under $700 per month. I am going for three months from December into March. If you have been to POA maybe you could steer me into a good location to start looking for something to rent.

I am going to Brazil for the first time and really having a hard time deciding what city to go to. For those of you that have been to brazil would you give me your opinon on this. If you had a choice between going to Fortaleza or the POA which one would you choose. Would you perhaps choose a different location and not go to those areas? I think I want to stay out of Rio on this trip. Thanks. I have not been able to use the personal message board for some reason.

I was at a nice student hostel. Single suite 45 per day, room without bath room 35 a day. Most likely you can get weekly or monthly cheaper, though the monthly seems to be reserved to students.
If you pm me, I can try to look it up. Was very close to downtown, where I found all my favorite cheap brothels with lots of daytime action.
Found some dump hotels for R$ 18 room without TV or bath room. Monthly should be cheaper, too.
Now I really did not research apartments ...........

Mate of mine 64 years old (he´s always been a bit of a monger). I thought he had more sense after living in Brazil for the last 30 years, but just goes to show there´s no fool like an old fool. Got him self hooked up with a young 22 year old GDP, left his beautiful wife for this GDP. Of course the GDP is running true to form and has started the process of asset striping. My wife is close friends with his ex. I foolishly said to my wife "Do you think he loves this girl". My wife says "Não é amor, ele "en-sho-sho-ta-do". I was in 65 last week, one of the centro terma relaying the story to one of GDP´s I have known for a while. As soon as she heard me say the word "en-sho-sho-ta-do" she squealed with laughter. If you can get this word in at the terma it seems to have an hilarious effect. Basically it means c*nt struck.

Could have gone down hill but I will check it out next week for myself when I get to Rio. I met a very cute 19yo working there who had a boyfriend but no baby. For truly disgusting rooms, you'd have to go to the Florida Bar. You'd have to decide for yourself whether you want to party here.

I think the issue is different people have different views of what disgusting is.
When I first went to Rio I was used to the very luxurios places in Europe, for me the rooms at Luomo etc were bad. Now, everything be relative, I think a lot of the R$100 type places in Rio are not so bad. Yeah they are not western type standards of cleanliness, but all in all, they are not "make you want to puke" disgustingly bad.
