We're overdue for a new border crossing station and don't mind having to walk farther if it means I'm not standing in line as long to get back into the US.
The other "benefit" for CBP for putting the bridge farther from the car inspection is they never liked people being able to look down on the cars being inspected. If you've every crossed when the old bridge was closed (in the middle of the night during the week) and had to walk all the way to Camino de la Plaza to cross, we should be so lucky there was a new bridge because the pedestrians crossing doesn't fight terrorism.

Although, call me cynical, but I wonder how fast the lines will be after completion. Which will probably be 2 or 3 years late and a few billion over budget. After all, the Homeland Security union drones are only going to move so fast.
