As for why the more south you go, the more white South America gets, I casually explored this topic before in the case of Argentina and Uruguay. I suspect that since those countries border Brazil's southern borders, the reasons spill over.

First, slavery in those countries was not nearly as prominent as in Brazil and North America. The colonial economy of the former nations were dominated by mining and ranching rather than for example the labor intensive sugar plantations of Brazil and the Caribbean. As such, the indigenous population supplied enough labor to mine rather than farm. By sheer quantity, there were less African genes introduced into the gene pool. That in itself "lightens" the entire population.

The other gene pool comes from the indigenous people of South America. It was to say that physicians recognize that the role is under absurd amounts of scrutiny. Trust as a healthcare provider, once lost, is extremely difficult to regain. As such, when people ask for predictions, good physicians will make the most conservative predictions and very little promises or guarantees because if you are unsure, you don't say that you are sure.

But to counter your point, not many people go into the profession for priesthood mystique. Most would say you all can take the "prestige" of it all if it allows providers to do our jobs without the extra responsibility of being the Brother's Keeper, a role most of us never ask for.
