I am with Mr. E on this. I have been going to Colombia for 16 years (who knows how many trips), some of which I was married to a Colombian and the rest as a monger. NEVER had anyone ask to view fotos on my phone, never gotten shaked down. I was body scanned once, but it was years ago when I was on vacation with my ex-wife and daughter, but that was in Cartagena. Not saying that shake-downs, etc. Can't or don't happen, but it's certainly not the norm based on what I've experienced and based on what I know of friend who visit Colombia regularly.

Once US Customs asked for my electronics as I was boarding a flight to Peru. I do not remember if they asked me to unlock anything or not. I do not have a lock on my tablet anyway. Let me say that this was not a random thing. They had a copy of my passport to identify me when I came through. This was in 2017 after my global entry was revoked for who knows what reason. I have written my senator, freedom of information act, pulled my FBI report and everything and still they will not say anything. My next step is to write the head of Homeland Security, and if I get nothing from him, then I will write to the President. They gave me Precheck back and I have Clear, but they recently denied Global Entry again.

In the US they can always confiscate your phone until they open it the hard way then send it back to you at a later date. They are not going to arrest you for not complying. Same thing as Jj was saying about those cars though; if it gets broken in the process then they do not owe you shit.

The question being discussed is whether, at the airport, you're required to submit to a search. A simple yes or no would suffice.

I cross the border in and out of Canada regularly. I'm on the way to Canada now and will be coming back into the US in about 18 hours. Over the more than 1000 times I've crossed, I've never been personally searched. My truck has been searched, it's been x-rayed, but they've never personally searched me.

I've noticed, particularly returning to the US, certain trends. If they have a lot of cars in secondary inspection, most of them might be the same color, or most of the people might belong to a particular religion or ethnic group. With trucks it might be similar types of trailers, or mostly small rental trucks.

I see similar things on the highway. The police might be pulling over grey vans, or blue pickups. This is because they have information that something illegal involving that type of vehicle might be going on.

I once got pulled, along with several other people, for an extra inspection. Listening to the questions it turned out we had all made last minute flight changes.

Certain behaviors or certain profiles can raise a red flag. When that happens people get pulled aside for extra scrutiny. It's happened to you, MeE and me along with countless others. We've already established that it can happen.

The question is, "what do you do if it happens to you?

My answer is that you be polite, calm and compliant. You treat the person with respect, you remain friendly and you will probably have no problem.

Apparently that's the wrong answer. It appears that you should start acting like a spoiled child and accuse the person of breaking the law, because no country has the right to detain anyone, particularly if they are from the US.

Of course this aligns nicely with the "if one person overpays, prices will go up" thinking. If police or customs deal with mostly gringos who are polite and friendly, they are more likely to look favorably at gringos. If they constantly have to deal with the arrogant assholes, they will treat all gringos accordingly.

Ever since Trump passed that new law which basically is going after any sex tourism, even though we are not trafficking, immigration has been a real pain. Here is some added protocol I have been following since trump passed the law. Everyone should follow this because I'm getting harassed a lot more crossing over from Tijuana.

1) You need 2 phones. One you use in the states like a 1 k iPhone with all your apps that you can think of, and a cheaper 300 dollar phone for mongering. On the monger phone you will only need to download what's app, tinder, and uber.

2) when you cross back to the states, especially Colombia which harassed the hell out of me as a solo traveler, you want that phone to be completely deleted and reset to factory settings. For android: Settings / general management / reset / factory data reset / reset. That's it. After it's done you can cross over and they won't see shit. Any google searches, photos, and what's app conversations are gone.

Take a screen shot of your what's app numbers and email it to yourself to a rarely used email. When you get home you can add the numbers back and dump the girls you are getting tired of anyway.

You can resist this at your own discretion and complain about your rights but they have already said they can check your phone without your permission when you haven't crossed back yet. They are cracking down and it will get worse. Remember lying to a federal agent is a crime. If they ask you a bunch of questions about what you are doing in Colombia and you lie and then they see your what's app talking to escorts about sex for money, it might not end well. Be paranoid. This isn't 10 years ago where all they really cared about was terrorism. Now they care about who you are screwing.

Laying in bed here in my oceanside room at the Pavilion Hotel in Myrtle Beach with my ex-wife. Once again I cannot sleep because of her snoring. My recent topic was three-ways and at first I thought Scarlet and Purrfekt Paisa held the honor as the duo that best completed my terrific trios. My ex-wife returns to Pennsylvania on Monday. I will start working on my new Visa that same day. As a lot of you already know, the 180 day per year tourist visa resets at the start of the calendar year or January 1st. I have 10 days left on my tourist visa for 2021 that I'm going to use up regardless of where I am in the process of switching over to an immigration visa.

Unbelievably and happily, I continue to move forward with my goal to spend as much time in Medellin as is practically possible. I'm still with the same girlfriend or novia, Catgirl, who was the sole reason I came to Medellin two years ago even though I swore beforehand I would never set foot in The City of Eternal Spring.

I did not know Medellin was a mongering destination until after I got here. Then I adapted to my environment and optimized my situation.

I was digging beachfront Cambodia before I found Medellin. There has been a lot of chatter here lately about southeast Asia. SEA is one of the many lame abbreviations used on this Website, could just as easily stand for Seattle and it is the abbreviation for the Seattle-Tacoma airport.

I see mostly similarities and not differences between SEA and MDE, except for the obvious, travel time and expense, language barrier, boobs are bigger in MDE, albeit a lot of plastic, jajaja. I had great times with the girls in both places and I mongered in six or seven different countries in Southeast Asia, I'm too tired to remember them right now. 80% of my time was in Thailand, the standard Bangkok, Pattaya, Nana Plaza, Walking Street, throw in Phuket where I dodged a lame kidnapping attempt that I posted about here before, and Chiang Mai for good measure. Rarely mentioned, the recreational drug and porn culture is dangerously unfriendly in Thailand compared to Colombia, where it is embraced.

That last photo has to be the biggest fucking drink I ever ordered in a bar in my life, they call them fish bowls here on the coast of South Carolina and probably the reason what ex-wife is once again rattling the windows with her snoring, jaja that is all.

Regardless, the discussion has been about being searched / detained at the airport, which has been a new topic here as far as I can remember at least on the Medellin thread as it sounds like something new that has been initiated by the Colombian authorities. Maybe it's some new program profiling travellers somehow, or maybe just a random screening program being started, but regardless, I don't ever remember seeing or hearing of what's been reported as of lately occurring at Rio Negro airport.

At least you have TSA pre-check which can be great at times but isn't as prevalent anymore as not enough people have it, hence they don't man all the TSA security entrances at some airports like in Florida, but give you a card that allows you to not to have to take off your shoes.

Probably the worst airport for international arrivals is Fort Lauderdale. No signage when entering for Global Entry. Everybody gets stuck in the same line. I just go around the line walk in, say I have Global Entry and typically am allowed to enter but was recently asked for my Global Entry card which I don't carry with me as my "known traveller" number has always been used for airline travel. FLL is the worst airport to be flying into from Colombia and I'm sure there are other board members you can attest to this.

As far as getting your Global Entry status back, your only option is to retain an attorney and spend big bucks as anything you write will go into the round file, aka trash can. And God forbid if you were put on the Governments no fly list. There are people who have been put on that list in error and have spent a lot of time and money trying to get it undone.

You can also back everything on your mongering phone up to the cloud (confirm encryption), wipe you phone before you head back, and restore your phone to the backup when you're home. Much easier.

[/QUOTE]There is no doubt FLL is bad, and I have global entry (best $100 I ever spent and free if you get some American Express cards) but if you use the free mobile passport app and fill out your info, you can also bypass the horrendous lines. It is not as good as Global Entry but it sure as hell beats standing in the regular line.

On the application there were 2 similar questions about events in my past. The first one was "in the past 5 years" and the other was "the last 10 years. " I had an incident which requires a yes answer for each. However, the first had happened more than 5 years in the past and the second more than 10 years.

So I answered no to both questions. My application was stalled until I got called in for an interview. I explained both situations and also explained why I hadn't included them on the application. I was told I needed to include anything within the past 15 years.

Then why does it say 5 and 10 years?

When the bureaucracy train goes off track, there's no telling where or why it happened.

I believe a a bill was passed in June of this year in the House outlawing sex tourism as relates to minors, meaning anyone under 18, but does not address it being illegal engaging prostitutes 18 years or older.

Makes no sense at all to enforce a law against sex tourism when it involves any one 18 or older for a US citizen in a foreign Country where prostitution is legal.

As far as wiping your phone and all your electronics clean I see it as a waste of time. I don't engage in anything illegal when overseas, and don't have any suspicious photos on my phone or computer that might raise a red flag. So if they go thru my electronics and ask me a bunch of questions, my answer will be I have a lot of girlfriends, and they are all over 18. That's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so as far as lying to a Federal agent I would never do that.

Unless this Trump law you reference specifically states that if someone travels overseas, has photos and conversations with women 18 years and older on their electronics, they've clearly broken the law, and are going to be prosecuted as a sex tourist?

I find this hard to believe, and perhaps your a bit more frightened than you should be about all this.

I'm not suggesting though that you don't do all that you do, because it makes you more comfortable as a monger, and all of us have to be comfortable how we roll.

As far as Tijuana, all of the border agents know exactly what goes on there, and if I was an agent and going thru somebody's electronics, and everything was wiped clean, that would raise a huge red flag.
