The idea is unless he did that as in a headline then he was only reporting "Fake News" because nobody reads or listens to anything other than the headlines and the introductions to monologues. Maybe the very first sentence qualifies.

By contrast, when browsing through the internet, most people simply glance at news headlines without clicking the link and reading the whole thing. If they do click it, many will only read the first paragraph or two. That is why the fake news bury most important information that goes against The Narrative down at the very bottom, if they mention it at all.
As for saying "covid complications", most casual readers will just see "covid". A more truthful headline would have read "Powell, 84, dies after cancer battle". Or if they were going to mention covid: "Powell, 84, dies of cancer with covid complications despite being vaccinated".
But of course they didn't want casual browsers to see that Powell had cancer, or had been vaccinated, or even how old he was. They just wanted people to think he dropped dead of nothing other than covid, thus inflating its danger in the minds of normal people far more than is actually the case.
