Some Hotel Options in Medellin
I just finished two weeks trip in Colombia including eight days in Medellin. When it comes to hotels/casas/chicas, I think it is a personal choice depending on lot of factor. On this site, there is lot of information and options, and it is hard to provide recommendation because personal choices will always vary. This is just my opinion:
El Centro: In El Centro, in the same area close to Nutibara there is an another hotel “Hotel Botero Plaza” where I stayed for couple of nights. In general, this area is noisy and very high risk during the night. Even during the day, you have to be careful especially around “Parque Bolívar”. On their website, Hotel Botero Plaza has lowest rate of 118k, but when I called they quoted me 85k including taxes, breakfast and parking. In addition, they charged me 25k for the girl to stay overnight. During my stay, staff was very nice and moved me to 14th floor when I complained about street noise. During this move, I left one my credit card in the previous room, but the cleaning staff found it and brought me back. These hotels are very close to metro station “ Parque Berrío”, numerous casas, and a block from strip clubs Las Americas, Club Maracaibo, and La Barra/Ejecutivo on Calle 53.
Laureles: During first two nights at Hotel Botero Plaza, I continued to talk to other mongers and girls about the places to stay, and I decided to move to “Laureles” where two very nice mongers were already staying in a “Hotel Villa Real”, and I believe they were paying around 50k, just a block from metro “Estadio” and there was about 30k additional fee for the girl to stay overnight. After searching, I decided to stay at “Hotel Laureles 70” for 95k cash including breakfast, taxes and car parking and no fee for short visits, but may be for overnight stays. It is few blocks away from metro station (Estadio), but it was an easy walk for me. The “Carrera 70” or “La 70” in general is the area between metro station “Estadio” and “Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana”-map attached, and has about 20 hotels including some on the side streets. La 70 has wide sidewalks with a bike lane, venders and cafees, and is very safe, but I will not suggest walking alone late at night. During my search, I was quoted varying hotel prices 40k-130k. Again, you will find information about this area here saying that it is hassle to get to and from, but I liked it.
Mayorista: We took some girls from Mayrista (called 85) to a very clean hotel in this area called “Hotel Alcaraván. They charged us 20k for 2 hours, but they did not ask for any identification or deposit, and just gave keys to the room. We simply left when done, and I found the room keys next day in my pocket which I forgot to return. This hotel seems to very convenient to action at Mayorista, but the security may be an issue.

I stayed there for about a week at the beginning of July. I think it was about $58 a night, less on weekends, unless it's one of the holiday weekends. They claim it was the first hotel built in Medellin, and it could use an upgrade. But it's clean, the staff is friendly, and the security is good.
I always felt safe around the area during the day, but I was told to avoid walking around at night. You can walk to most of the casas in fifteen minutes, or they have secure taxis in front where they write down the number of the taxi that you take. The pool area looks rather nice (though I never used it), and the weight room is full of 1970's equipment (I was desperate for a workout, and I managed with what they had).
So, the place is conveniently located for the center of Medellin, right near a metro stop, it's clean, good security, friendly, and not a bad price for what you get if you want to spend most of your time hitting the casas. It's dated, but I found it kind of charming in a historic kind of way.[/QUOTE]
