Which is misinformation. Luckily, I don't mind setting people straight. Bars and entertainment venues HAVE NOT been allowed to open in Bangkok as of November 1st. Exactly like the article reads. Plus, on Sunday I was eating at Burger King next to Nana and met an inspector / cop preparing for inspection / raid. In order for the police to collect tea money or raid money, the owners of these shady businesses have to be able to accumulate money in the first place. This is how the war on drugs work and so does the world of corruption. So they let the sales go on until it's time to collect and pay up. And yes, the entire Sukhumvit are their eyes and ears from the viagra and sex toys vendors, beggars, fruit stands, motors taxis and much much more. It's an entire network. So please, don't think by not discussing open bars on sex forum, you are somehow one step ahead of the police here in Thailand and doing everybody a favor. What did people think happened when Lisa on the Beach Bar got raided in Pattaya? That bar was located almost next to the police station. Foreigners got arrested and fined and then the bar reopened up the next night. Mean to tell me owners didn't know and weren't involved? First, particularly as an expat living here, I am interested in supporting the bars, keeping them open to attract more and better girls to the area at all times. If there was ever a time not to screw the bar out of whatever reasonable money they could rake in by opening their doors and, yes, even taking the kind of chances you feel they are taking by doing so and hosting tons more girls over time, this is it.

Some places seem good 1 night and the next night dead again or limping along again.
I went out to Soi 7 one night and it was pumping, then the next night dead. This was a few days after November 1, so I guess many more expats were coming out.
Soi 11 was probably the area that the curtain bars were referred to. There is a bunch of outside eateries half way up Soi 11 on the left which now have 2 rows of curtains out the front of each little row of establishments. There is probably 6 or so in a row. Once you pull back 1 curtain, then enter the second curtain it is just like a normal bar pre covid. These bars have been operating for the last few months and have been quite busy. There has been working girls in there but with their boyfriend rather than having large numbers of free girls on the hunt. I am sure some were available though. The police are always hanging around so are well aware of what is happening and surely directly the brown paper bags to the correct people higher up.

I think it is worth pointing out that curtains to "hide" the drinking activity in Soi 11 bars or the way the little passage off Soi 7 is naturally shaped to "hide" the drinking activity back there has nothing to do with preventing the police or boys in brown from knowing all about it. They know all about it.

Sorry, but the way he described bars with curtains and people behind them in that first report is simply nothing like what would have been the case if he had turned left off Soi 7 and walked down that passage (not "just to the left" on Soi 7). As I said, there are a couple of empty cubicles with the entrances covered entirely by mesh curtains "just to the left" as you walk in Soi 7. But that is not where the bulk of those Soi 7 collection of bars is. You have to turn left and walk down that passage.
You really only saw about 50 girls and about 20 customers in those Soi 7 bars last Saturday night? My god, what time of night was that? 5pm? Maybe that's why it did not register with me that you were talking about Saturday night and not a much quieter night. There were easily 200+ girls in those Soi 7 bars that Saturday night and maybe 100+ customers.

Serving alcohol is definitely an issue and there are reports of bar staff being arrested for that. But if the bar is serving drinks in paper cups and mugs, despite the fact that it is an "open secret" that they are serving alcohol in some if not most of them, it is a stretch to say the police would round up and arrest every patron in a place where alcohol was being served to some patrons that way. In my case, all I would likely have in front of me is a club soda or coke in one of those cups. Everyone sitting in a bone fide restaurant in Bangkok on any day or night of the week could be rounded up and arrested for that even if some of them had no beverage at all on their table and had no idea some people at other tables had booze in their cups.
It could be the authorities in that jurisdiction are willing to accept the strained but workable pretense that some of those places are not exactly "entertainment venues or pubs" or "restaurants" but are legally allowed to be open and operate in the same way a storefront venue or a street cart serves coffee, tea, juice, water and sodas. In that way, they could be open legally well before the official old December 1st or new mid-January 2022 date for "entertainment venues and pubs", but not legally allowed to serve alcohol. Therefore it is the people serving the alcohol to some customers who are at risk, not the patrons.
Instead, it appears issues that can trigger a full bar round up are things like "inadequate ventilation and congestion" and not about some customers drinking alcohol that has been served to them.

When I saw the boys in brown standing around right outside the passage off Soi 7 next to Random Bar last night about 8PM it is very likely they were waiting to see just how crowded and busy the place was going to get. I can't see how poor ventilation would be an issue there. But over crowding sure can be an issue on their busiest nights. Of course, it wouldn't be issue if only 50 girls and 20 customers showed up at 5PM, 8:15PM, 9PM or any other time. But when it is as crowded and busy as I have seen it on Friday and Saturday nights over the past several weeks, I suppose it is very possible the authorities would have to do something about it. And I certainly be wrong about it, but I'm guessing in those cases they wouldn't just start rounding up and arresting everyone before they at least told the bar owners to close down and start clearing people out first.
I also suspect just the sudden appearance of a few boys in brown is enough to thin out the crowd at bit at a moment's notice.
