You already have some pointers on the trip. 2 suggestions.

1. If you have time in hand, get a visa from India itself. The queues in BKK airport can be crazy at times. Also in case you planning a visa on arrival, go through the check list and carry photos of yourself in the mentioned size. I have been there a number of times, but always get the visa from Delhi itself. Takes just a day, but saves you a lot of trouble and time at the airport.

2. Go with empty bags. Do a lot of shopping. Clothes. Good place to refurbish your wardrobe.

Also, you can carry THB from here. Will save the hassle of exchanging to dollars and then to THB. Lastly, since it is your first time, beware of ladyboys. You'll get enchanted by their beauty, only to find out they have a rod down there. Look for the adam's apple, their hands and voice. They are good pointers.

On the visa issue, I never had big queues from the visa line that costs slightly more than the standard on arrival visa. It's adjacent to the normal visa line and generally remains empty. It definitely helps if you carry pen / photos from India and that shaves off quite some time for document processing.
