Lots of work involved, very few staff who have the skill to do it and if you hire a professional to maintain it for you it costs big money. I maintain my company's website and if someone wants to add some content they have to wait for me to find time for it. The site can lie fallow for months until I have the time to do it. My time spent on the website goes straight into overheads as well. Even reasonably tech literate people can't work them without an expert to hold their paw.
