I edited the message to add another one with the same Manila, Thailand location, except this time they actually mention it in the profile. Too funny

I also sometimes send a message to see what I get back, but becasue I say in my profile that I know all the scams and have been to the Philippines many times I never get a response. I should change it, but to lazy.

Before I put that in my profile I always received a response and I receiveed about 10 times as many initial contacts from CB girls on the scam obviously.

For me anytime they are from Zamboanga City it is a 99 percent chance they are a fake and on the scam.

I thought I had saved the two conversations I had with her, but can't find them. In the first conversation she asked for me to get her a web cam within about 10 IM's back and forth. The way she approached it was she asked if I mind if she had a web cam and I responded "no... i did not mind if she had a web cam" so she responded thank you sir, how do I get the web cam...to which I responded that I never said I would buy her a web cam only that I did not mind if she had one. That it was fine with me for her to have a web cam, but I would not send her money for one. I asked her to go to a web cam Internet cafe so that I could see her and if it was her I would send her money, which I really would not have done, but I knew it would not happen. She tells me that she is in a poor province area way outside the city and they have no web cam Internet cafe. So I ask her if they are so far away from the city that there is no web cam cafe, where would they purchase the web cam from? And if they could purchase the web cam then obviously they would have web cam Internet cafe there.

She quit chatting right then


A few days later I see her on line again so I send a IM to see what happens, I like screwing with these scammers when I have time, which is not often. she or it or whatever it is must have forgotten our last exchange of IM's as she stars chatting and this time within about 3 exchanges of IM's she ask if she can ask a favor, but she is shy to ask, I know you have all seen this weak approach. So of course I tell her she can ask a favor. Well this time she is not doing well because the typhoon is there and they have no food, so she needs money for food. I banter back and forth for awhile and then log out as I had other things to do.

I know X-man that you frown on this and I agree we should not let them know we know the scam, but sometimes I cannot help myself.

I promise not to do it again for at least two months.

One stayed loyal for a year then had a Filipino boyfreind while telling me she loves me hurry back etc. A least she was loyal for a yr. The next was one who I might have married, I found out she already was. How did I know these thing because my best friend lives in Philippines and found out for me you need a spy boys.

First g'day guys, great forum here thanks Russell. Just giving you all the heads up that there are girls sending a new virus. Funny ust scandal. Avi. Exe. Via YM. I have notified the site but just letting everyone know not to accept that file, its apparently a nasty one.

I have been chatting with some dozens of girls from DIA and imho it is mostly a complete waste of time. U'd have much better luck just going into an internet cafe there and chatting to one of the many women there! LOL It's all about time and effort required. If you are in person it will click or not and you can move on. Some of these girls on DIA have consumed some hours of my time only to announce that they need a laptop or that they gotta have the ring before they have a physical relationship. This after I have made it clear in my profile and on YM that I am not looking for commitment! So happy hunting guys, once again thanks for this great forum to share information. I have spent about 3 years living and traveling in various parts of the Philippines while living in asia but of course alot of my info is already dated so great to see the updated info here. Ok hope I can contribute in some small way here, greetings to all!

This is an ongoing problem but really the issue is the girl's PC and the fact that many are infected (the PCs that is gents !) and many do not have virus protection..:(

I tell them this and some listen to the advice and some even try to get protection as it is a real pain receiving the messages.

I learned this the hard way. Last year I got a YM from a bargirl and the message was check out my new pictures, with a link. I looked at the link and it a yahoo GeoCities link, so I thought that I could trust it. NOT! It was a Trojan and it hacked my yahoo email password and I couldn't get it reset. I lost 8 years of emails, hundreds of email addresses and on top of that, I used that email for all my accounts that send passwords. It took me a week to change everything, but thank god, I didn't lose anything in any accounts. I learned my lesson, I now run live protection amd it has stopped at least 2 attacks on my computer. It is well worth $40 a year.

Yep, some simple precautions can save you in the long run. 'spybot search and destroy' will remove most trojans and it is free (btw including the one I mentioned in my previous post) Get AVG free anti-virus and a decent firewall (I use zone alarm free) and I have. Touch wood. Rarely had a problem and if I have had one then it has been easily remedied. I am a newbie to YM but I run a server on IRC and have for many years. I think most of the problems people have are either because they have d/l an. Exe file. Which unless from an extremely reliable source is sheer madness!. Or having inadequate protection to prevent java or active script placing a trojan on your machine. I strongly recommend a shift to an alternate browser than explorer. I use mozilla and it is far superior both in functionality and security. Sorry if this is a little off topic but it is relevant in the sense that it seems the chat programs are the latest targets for virus distribution and perhaps a bit of info on security could prevent some of you guys falling victim. As you point out Robbaf the consequences can be a real PITA! I haven't checked out the 'Live Protection' m8 but I am arriving in Philippines in less than a month and I will ditch YM before then. When I get there the first places I will check out are the internet cafes. I fancy my chances much better in person from my experiences so far online.

I had good luck with DIA, although I did notice an increase in SPAM after I began using it.

I have gotten those bogus messages claiming link to pictures but NEVER click on ANY link unless I am CERTAIN it is from a trusted source.

My friend met a couple nice ones from Zamboanga so I must differ on that point. I believe that the highest incidence of scammers is in Manila, Makati and Angeles (and avoid the CB and DIA girls in those areas for that reason).

Finally, for BB: No way you can walk to town from the dive center at Punta Ballo (Sipalay). It is quite isolated. If you want easy access to a town I'd suggest Puerto Galera or maybe Moalboal, Cebu.

No reason you could not bring two girls out there (I did without complaint)
