Thank you[/QUOTE]Its your life, but if I was flying into Santo Domingo from California, one of the last things that I would want to do is go through the trouble of trying to take a gua gua into the city from the airport. From what I understand gua guas do not stop at the airport.

When chicas come with me to the airport, they will usually take a motoconcho or a taxi to the main highway, about 2 minutes drive from the airport terminal. On the main highway they get a gua gua. You will be with luggage. You could conceivably try and get a motoconcho to the highway, while carrying your luggage or pay a taxi to take you to the highway from the airport terminal. More than likely you will have to wait on the side of the highway for the next gua gua. That gua gua will probably drop you off somewhere near zona colonial and from there you could walk to your hotel or pay a taxi, with your luggage.

A2b transfers for $18 one way, seems to me to be a better deal. If you arrive at the airport during a thunderstorm either you will have to wait out the rain or get wet while trying to get a gua gua. Schlepping your luggage around in 90 degree heat with a blazing, is no great fun.

Your choice.

Cost a year ago was 270 pesos or over $7. Confortable buses with bathroom inside, plenty space for your bags. Buses has always departed as scheduled. They have a waitng area with a / see and a convenience store.

Last day and we are feeling good about our short but productive trip. The Dutchman is intent on buying a Caribbean inspired painting for his spare bedroom. We head to Manolo for our morning ritual and after continue east on Independcia to the corner of Pasteur. There is a guy who sells paintings and the Dutchman is willing to pay $3000 pesos for a large print. The vendor wants $6500 pesos and after some hard negotiating I talk him down to $3000. He rolls up the painting and we go back to the Jaguar to pack, our flight leaves at 6:30pm. Our plan is to get a massage plus extras, and then see the Carnaval sights on the Malecon for a bit before heading to the airport.

At the Jaguar we pack, and I search the thread for a massage place that is close. We are both beat and just want a massage and a BJ. Not to much to ask for? I come up with post #3370 from Jaosousa:

I would love to take the A2b, but the last time I pre-paid for a hotel and bus was in Thailand. And when I finally got to the hotel. The clerk don't have any info on my reservation that I had made and pre-paid 1500 baht at the airport. I even have have a receipt too.

If anyone has any info on buses from airport to santo domingo without pre pay. That would be sooooo wonderful.

A little more expensive than some but they had the code emailed to me the next day. You select the manufacture, carrier your phone is locked to. The phone model and the IMEI Number. The IMEI Number is usually under the battery. They send you the code and you enter it after you insert the new SIM card. You can not unlock Sprint or Verizon phones that use the CDMA network.

You can also find unlockers on Ebay.

There is one that I know of that stops at the airport upper level. It leaves you off on Duarte under the elevated section of 27th of feb. From there you can take a cab to any part of the city for relatively cheap.

It's pretty cheap, my girl takes it back into the city when she accompanies me to the airport.

Just ask the local workers but don't use the term bus. They all call it a guagua.

There are two door bells near the entrance of the house, ring the bell for "B" (I have not been there in a while). Hatuey was the former name of a street there.

Club MC has a small bar inside the living room and a backyard / courtyard where you can also sit. In Listin Diario they had an advertisement with prices starting at 1000 pesos. When I was there, Club MC had a female owner / manager. Club MC might have prices for foreigners and for locals (if you are a foreigner who goes there and they quote you a somewhat high price, negotiate it down).

I visited the place a few times, one time with ABR Mainline. About 8 chicas who live at the place.

If there are accidents on the highway to Santiago, your travel time will be increased. I have seen the aftermath of a few accidents on that highway, one accident where two dead bodies were hanging out of a new SUV as I drove by.

A ocal chica can easily ask in Spanish where to get a gua gua (mini-bus) and also find out how long she might have to wait for the gua gua.

A guy from the States who is arriving with luggage after a 10 hour journey, who may not speak much Spanish, I would advise him not to waste his time trying to get a gua gua from the airport in santo domingo.

Its good to save money, but for me, trying to take a gua gua from the airport into the city, while carrying luggage, it would not be worth it. New York JFK airport and Newark airport have companies that operate large buses that take passengers into new york city on a regular schedule.

I have been on the second floor of the outside part of the Santo Domingo airport and never saw a gua gua pull up to get passengers. I have no idea with what frequency gua guas show up at the airport. After the airport a gua gua could make a bunch of stops picking up and letting off passengers. Many gua guas that I have seen don't have air-conditioning and on some the side doors have been removed, so passengers can get on and off more easily.

About a year ago a gua gua veered off las americas highway into the sea, most of the female passengers died (there is a video on youtube showing the rescue workers pulling the dead bodies out of the water).

To save maybe $30US by taking a gua gua, would not be worth it for me after a 10 hour flight and carrying luggage.
