Another question for the group. I noticed on one of the Tijuana Amigo videos on YouTube (linked on the HK Club board) reference to paying in pesos and the exchange rate. How up are girls on the exchange rates and, is it (generally) better to pay in pesos or dollars? Are dollars accepted everywhere (restaurants / hotels / clubs / stores) and are prices posted in pesos or dollars?

Often an exchange rate is posted, but you can always ask. In short, I negotiate and pay the girls in pesos to save a small amount. Businesses tend to tilt the exchange a bit in their favor, so generally better to pay hotels and such in dollars.

I think like anywhere else in the world it is hit or miss in Tijuana, you can have a couple shitty girls than a great one. The GFE is a little harder to find but it is there. I really enjoyed staying at the hotel puebla amiga, the bed and sheets were better than US standards and the front desk people were really cool about girls they kept pointing me in places to try and they said they could get girls to my room if I wanted but I wanted to see the girl first rather than some random girl show up. There is a massage parlor 100 feet from main enterance but I think it's kind of a rip off and the girls were not that attractive when I went. I personally think Tijuana is the most dangerous place I have visited, but not in terms of mob or drug cartel, the police just have a stench of corruption and they are literally everywhere. They have like 3 per block all around the city, I have never seen anywhere near that many police in the US anywhere. From what I hear the police are the main problem and I stayed very sober just to make sure I was not given a shake down. GL on your trip, I was happily surprised on my first trip although I would still prefer Costa Rica, Tijuana is quicker and cheaper to get to. I only wish I lived in CA.

The peso was 10:1 for so long, that most of the chicas think that way. So, paying in pesos will net you some savings. Not nearly as much now as in recent years, but it is still a savings. And it may be a savings for the chica, too. Tijuana is a bit of an aberration, as the dollar is accepted almost everywhere. So, most of her daily expenses can be covered with dollars. But, once you get outside of the city, not so much. If she goes home to see the family, or sends money home, well, things change. Dollars may not be so readily accepted in Bumo Fucko Tabasco. Then the chica tales a helluva beating on the exchange back to pesos.

As far as the clubs go, the gringo-centric ones price everything in dollars on purpose. Sometimes their exchange rates are favorable, sometimes not. So, it's often easier to use dollars in the clubs. I still use pesos in the clubs, but I know I won't save much. But, in general, when the dollar is rising against the peso you will make out because most places don't adjust their exchange rates quickly. When the dollar is falling against the peso, you may lose money, again, because of the lag time in adjusting their rates.

In more local establishments, again, mixed bag. I always use pesos because it's easier. But almosst every place will give you a rate in dollars if you ask.

So, in general, I think one saves a bit of money using pesos. And, from a philosophical standpoint, I like to use the currency of the coutry I'm visiting.

But, this whole thing may soon be academic. With the current crop of politicians bound and determined to put the dollar on par with Charmin, we may be back to 10:1, or worse, very soon.

I was down last night and the area seemed ALOT busier than normal. Not just busier, but alot more gringos too. Anyone else get the same feeling? Maybe its thanks to the free advertising from CNBC.

You need *both for sure if you stay for a few days. If you are coming down for the day $50 in singles will come in extremely handy and lessen your chances of change or exchange fraud by waiters.

[/QUOTE]couldn't agree more! I always go to my bank before I go down. I get 50-75 in ones and 25-50 in fives. Fives are good for the taxi, one drink with a dollar tip. 3 tacos and a coke etc. The 1s are good for tips for the ladies, bathroom guy, bus, routa taxi, exact change paying for drinks etc. This way you don't give anyone the chance to rip you off. Better safe than sorry. I wear some cargo shorts, keep my sentri pass and HK VIP card in my bottom left pocket, cell phone in my left pocket. 5s in the back pocket, singles in the bottom right pocket and my cigs / lighter in my right pocket. It works.

How do you get there cheaply from the centro? You walk down from revolucion to ave madero around calle 4 and look for red ruta taxis that say either 5 y 10 or fundadores on them. The auditorio is located a block or two past the hipodromo on the same avenue. Just tell the driver " Quiero bajar en frente del auditorio municipal". Cost of ruta 11mx or $1.

If I am still around I will probably go.

In fact, before my last trip I spend 3 weeks saving every single I could get my hands one. I went down with over $80 in ones for a two day trip, and guess what. I still needed to get some change.

Ones are worth their weight in gold in Tijuana.

while i was in tijuana last weekend, i wanted to grab some vitamin v for obvious reasons, but also wanted to stock up on azithromycin (explanation below).

i thought that it would be easy to ask about over the counter antibiotics, and if they sold me some, i would then ask about viagra, so i went from farmacia to farmacia asking if i could get azithromycin. however, once i asked, each pharmacist got this zombie-like stare on their face, then recited some crap about how they cannot provide antibiotics without a prescription. it seemed like a rehearsed speech. anyway, after 4 rejections, i decided to switch gears. i went to a farmacia on art 123 fuente mexico between constituion and ninos heros and said in english "hey man, can i get some viagra?". sure enough, no problem there. after he rang it up without asking for a prescription, i asked if i could also get some azithromycin. he gave me the crazy-gringo look then rang it up as well.

so the take away is this: use viagra to establish the fact that you can buy drugs without a prescription, then move on to whatever else you want.

as a footnote, here is why i wanted to buy azithromycin over the counter.

on my last trip to the philippines i returned with a case of chlamydia (could have been any one of eight girls ;)). i know this because i get myself tested comprehensively for all stds at an anonymous clinic several times a year. however, i am not interesting in yet again visting my doctor ($$) showing her my test results, having her order a retest ($$$) because she does not trust my anonymous clinic (which has never been wrong) , waiting a couple weeks because of our mutual schedules, having yet another office visit ($$) for her to yet again prescribe the standard treatment for chlamydia ($$ because she does not prescribe generics) that anyone can find out via the cdc website. so basically, i wanted to stock up for next time, since chlamydia happens. plus, generic azithromycin is much cheaper over the border. obviously if anything else shows up on my test i would return to the doctor, and i am not recommending self diagnosis for anyone, but i am personally tired of what is essentially over charging for my personally sex habit. my doctor needs to get real, accept the test results i bring in, and prescribe what she always prescribes up front (preferably via phone and fax) without the extra bs.

I totally disagree with the assessment that Tijuana is just a wham bam thank you man kind of place. It can certainly be that if you want it to be. I have had terrific experiences with bar girls during many trips there. With SGs, I've found one in three to be passionate, so what would you rather do, Pay $60 for a great experience or 20, 20, 20, for a one in three shot? Regarding the DR, I have been there numerous times. While DR women will treat you well, they lack the passion of the Mexicana.
