FKK Artemis - Berlin

glad i did not start this. but you like in cairo, bengazi, istanbul, rio, sao paulo and now. vox populi, so here goes:

angus has over years referred people in certain situations to his blog, without any problem from admin both here and in the berlin thread. in certain select situations he was available to guide people with particular, often emotional needs. as this had been going on in the threads for years without any issues, when the whip came down last month, it was a bit of a shock. technically what he did probably was (unintentionally) overstepping rules here but it surely was not out of mal intent or personal profit, and it had been going on for years without the slightest red flag. an additional grey part comes from at times responding to new posters who did not have a pm ability so there was no other way to reach them other than posting. now all his reports are screened. he is ticked off that the judgement was so arbitrary and that the matter could not have been handled via a pm vs a kind of pointless, heavy-handed public swatting, especially as he is a key contributor on several threads which certainly adds to isgs reputation, and eventually their revenue. so he has withdrawn completely from the forum.

personally, i very much see both sides. and of course as the isg is jackson's baby, he (or one of his staff who might have actually reacted to this without thinking through the context) can do what he wants, how he wants. but there are lines of simple human decency, even amongst mongers. and for a guy who has put up almost 3000 posts, one (or at least i) would think it could have been handled differently, as in a warning shot across the bow, vs launching the tor****es.

there is a simple pragmatic solution. angus should agree privately to jackson that there will be no more direct link mentions to his blog (even though as the zimmer child correctly points out, it is a non-competitive fundi vs dynamic thing) but he could suggest that readers look it up. the blog actually helps the forum by reducing the need to ask certain questions over and over again. and jackson or admin or someone there could (and in my view should) send angus a pm saying his full senior rights are restored and he is taken off some arbitrary "watch" list if he agrees not to directly insert his blog link in any future posts, though he can mention it exists and people can easily do their own search. the situation comes up only once in a blue moon in any case.

the matter can be easily resolved quietly among gentlemen with a simple agreement that is fair to all. i have written admin privately about this some weeks ago. i think admin needs now to make the first move and suggest in a pm that if angus agrees, the new ground rules would remove any further incident. i never received any reply.

i would urge any like minded readers to do the same: pm admin with your thoughts, and or if you cannot pm, post it here. if admin sees support for this, they can resolve it quickly and quietly together with angus. but admin will need to at least write a one line in eg here or the berlin thread that angus should contact him, as i doubt he reads the forum any more on a regular basis, and really doubt he is reading any more pms from here.

surely with a little common sense, we can put the whole silly thing behind us, and dass dude could be back if he so desires. but either way you can be sure, dass dude abides. my very last words on this matter. rb

But if someone would have asked me about the 3 most important ISG-members, then my reply would have been off-hand: Wanking, Angus Magee, Hessen Bub. Speaking about overall value of course and as I see it. For me personally, Angus' and HB's reports are of lesser interest, because I don't do FKK-Clubs. But even with my little interest in this regard, I still realized that those two are the most active and useful ones in the FKK-forum. To loose Angus is a big loss for the FKK-forum and for all Berlin-mongers on ISG. I completely agree with Rocketboy0's assessment.

If someone is as active and helpful as Angus, then he should be given a lot more leeway if an infraction should occur. Reprimand is okay, but sending him back to being monitored is overkill.

However, eventually I began to notice certain patterns in his posts. They tended to be excessively favourable to the institutions he was reviewing and harsh on anybody who pointed out problems. He mentioned on a few occasions that he was friends with managers in these places, and that he was occasionally short on money.

It was all rather subtle, and there was no way a newcomer to the forum could ever spot it. That is exactly what made it so dangerous, and why we are lucky that the admin has been paying attention and basically defending the objectivity of information on the forum. So many forums on the Web are filled with fake reviews, it would be so easy for this forum to fall into the same trap. Eventually nobody would want to come here, because they couldn't trust anything they read here, and they would go to rival forums. I can't say for certain that this member was posting fake reviews and I can't speak for the admins. But I would say it is entirely valid for admins to monitor this sort of thing and stop creeping commercialism.

In the case of the Artemis thread, there is a special problem, and that is that Artemis basically has a monopoly on the FKK business in the capital (don't mention La Folie, I've tried it and it's useless) , unlike other areas of Germany like Hesse and NRW that have a great number of options and healthy competition. Just as a thought experiment, given that monopoly situation, the high prices at Artemis, and the large number of tourists that Artemis tries to attract from the nearby Messe, what kind of temptation must the management be under to ensure that no negative reports appear in the principal English-speaking site for FKKs, and try to control it by driving off independent reviewers and having their own men in place? Again, I realize it is practically impossible to prove this kind of thing, and again, this is precisely what makes it so insidious. But the patterns are there for anybody with the patience to trawl through this thread.

E. You are completely off the right track regarding the question of Angus posting false reviews or Angus posting according to some kind of personal agenda.

From what I know --not as much as many others closer to Berlin and AM-- I would say Angus was completely above board and was an honest poster. In my opinion, the only thing to be said is: A bloody shame he's gone from the board now and it is to this board's detriment, not it's benefit. My opinion.

His references to his blog in the last 9-12 months on ISG have been minimal and indeed his blog has been neglected during this time. Have met all 3 names and respect both their contributions and their views. I made my similar point on the Letters to the Editor thread.

Jackson, I believe that both yourself and Angus erred on this one and the Board and its readers are the losers. Hopefully to be rectified by the main protagonists.
