But as far as not being able to use a lame excuse to go to Colombia, that's a joke, nothing will change. You tell Colombian immigration upon entry that you are visiting your girlfriend and you tell the same thing to the agents at passport control upon re-entry to the USA and there isn't jack shit they can do, if you are a USA citizen you have the right to travel and as long as you aren't breaking any laws they have to let you back into your own country, what are they going to do, tell you to go back to Colombia?

I guess I didn't put my thoughts correctly. Yes it has nothing to do with being US resident. What I should have said is for those who were using excuses like we are going golfing, fishing or any other excuse like that with family and or friends then I believe that excuse will be much harder to fly.

Manizales you are right about visiting the girl friend story. That is exactly what I tell Immigration that I visit my girl friend in Colombia.

According to Fox News, an employee of the hotel demanded extra money for the agent's guest. He balked and a conflict ensued that was brought to the attention of the embassy. If that is a fact, what a piece of s* hotel worker.

Doesn't make him a bad guy just makes him human. I could go on and on and on about how stupid he handled the situation but you guys can see what he did wrong; The biggest being "Don't shit where you eat" When I worked for a big company and I was at their hotel that THEY paid for, I NEVER had a girl come to me. I always went to her (One time she was in the same hotel in Chicago!

Now the issue of not paying the Chica Fee. That is where he turns into an A+ King of *******! What was the fee? $30-$75 bucks? I'd imagine he makes well over $100G's a year. He sold out his career because he was too cheap to come up with the fee, put dirt all over his name and for what? He's too cheap to pay the fee! If it's a hotel rule it's a rule! If the rule was unfair or if the time limit was 2 hours and he took 2. 15. Well then you can argue.

You have to assess the situation; Best case: I don't have to pay the $75 fee, but I'm going to have to argue with this clerk all night. Is my time and mental heath worth $75? Yes! Worst case: I make a HUGE stink over it and the Clerk calls his boss who drops the time and I get bagged from my awesome paying job?

What a IDIOT! When committing a caper rule #1 is do not get caught! If you have to pay a few bucks or go a little bit out of your way to insure your end result is achieved so be it!

All I hear in the news is about the 12 secret service and 5 military personel who have gotten sent back to the US for alleged prostitution scandal. According to the new on Wednesday night a prostitute complaint about money that was owed to her and the US embassy was notified.

The problem isn't that some horny gringo wanted some Fine Colombian ass. It's that every news is covering it and saying prostitution is legal in Colombia. That means 1. More people will be coming down to get some driving the prices up. 2- giving Colombians and Americans a bad name. 3- it took away from the entire goal of the meeting down in Cartagena, security, trade, infrastructure, globalization, human capital, economic growth and natural resources and social development and the private sector.

Also 1 out of every three articles out there spell Colombia with a U. Nothing good can come out of this. The worst is the prices going up. ARGH!

as theshadow2 noted, colombia will be off-limits for some "because their cover will be blown". and who really wants to be blown with a cover!

i quit cartagena a few years ago for the same reason.
