Check with you favorite MP boss and get the low-down. If the shop is well connected, they will know about LE activity; 3. Go off site. Either to her place or yours. I prefer the latter as it leads to FS.
But it seems that the area mentioned by Fuzimiao was under scrutiny not too long ago. Maybe the local residents are complaining due to the shear number of MPs on the street near residential.

I am aware of 3 licences being suspended, however I understand that in Pudong, over 100 MP's have sufferred the same fate, according to local press.

Are there suitable (short stay) hotels in Shanghai where you can just go for a few hours and how to register there (in the girls name, since I do not want to leave a mongering trail and foreigners are easy targets these days). I am also looking for a way to meet the many civvies I meet daily, but I have not figured out how to do this discreetly. Any suggestions are most welcome.

They'll ask you for a cash room deposit of around RMB300. Good luck with getting a room registered in the girl's name. They have security concerns also.
1. My experience with short time hotels. 168 works for me. One of you has to get the room. The one who buys the room provides the I'd. You meet each other in elevator. Cells work fine here. Sometimes the elevator will not go up without the room card. About 100 to 140 rmb. Depends on the hotel. Plus a security deposit. They will check the room before the security deposit is refunded. Go figure. If you used a condom or some of the other available resources they will be deducted from the deposit. If you stained the sheets they will charge you a cleaning fee. It's just business.
2. On what you guys call raids, more like a check up. Who knows what the real reason is. This is China. I have been in the room with the girl twice when something like this happens. The lights blink on and off. The girls are prepared. You get dressed in what they gave you when you entered the establishment. They lead you to the wait room. Some guys have a smoke, others drink tea or whatever. 15 to 20 minutes later the girl or one of the guys take you back to the room. Be cool with it. The third time I had called the girl. I had an sm that said no. I got to the second floor. You guys ever notice that every establishment is not on the ground floor. And the usual guys had additional personal present who were talking with them. I returned to the elevator, took it back to street level, had a coffee, and about 30 minutes later got another sm with an OK.
3. The girls are concerned about 'security'. The security they are concerned about comes from some clients who are abusive. I have seen purple bruise marks on a girl and when I asked she just looked down and shook her head. Some of the clients are abusive. There is a dark side to this business. Their fears are not unfounded.
