I was just making a little joke actually.

But, here it is in a nutshell.

Dvaravati up to Sukhothai period - 7th-14th century
-brothels attached to the temples, much like in Ancient Rome

Sukhothai and Ayutthaya period - 14th-18th century
-Chinese came in and turned brothels into an organized business (Thai-Chinese still control most of the prostitution in LOS)

Chakri to present - 19th-21st century
-development of the industry as a key element of the economy, moving it out of the back-alley red-light brothels to the shopping-mall scale soapies etc.

The Farang-oriented sex industry is merely the tip of the iceberg, allegedly representing less than 10% of the whole thing.

The image of Thai women as morally loose is a long-established one going back almost 1,000 years. In stark contrast, the current cultural prudishness that the Thais always trot out as the long-standing cornerstone of their culture is a relatively recent phenomenon, imported from Victorian England and 1890s Europe by King Rama V. Yes a nice point.
Thailand has been fucked up by prudishness, although not to the levels of USA and England. Religions are a major culprit I guess.

The concept of monogamy is totally stupid and trying to defy nature (IMHO of course). Telling young teenagers that the right thing to do is not to have sex, is just plain dumb too.

Good post. The US military just happened to be the farang jai dee big wallets who were there at the time. Prostitution in Thailand is a Thai issue, not a farang one.

I know it is off-topic, but can't let some things go by without responding. Re: friendly-fire incidents; unfortunately they happen and when they do, it is horrible. In fact, the British are right at the top in such incidents dating from the war of the Roses in the 15th century right up to the present. Probably the worst friendly-fire incident in WW2 happened in May 1945 when the RAF mistakenly bombed 3 ships full of Jewish refugees in Lubek Bay. If you have ever been in combat (and I have), you would know that things occur at an unbelievably fast and frantic pace and you have not nearly enough time to always react properly.

Re: the Battle of Britain: this victory allowed the RAF to maintain air supremacy and to cause the Germans to put off an invasion of England (which at the time, the British Navy probably would have repulsed anyway), but who is gullible enough to believe that after Hitler conquered all of Europe that he would have been a "partner" with Britain. Maybe Chamberlain was, but no one else should be.

As far as Bangkok mongering goes, I have been at it since an initial visit in February 1966 (on R and R), and heavily since 1973 after studying Thai Language. I remember staying at the Chao-Pyraya Hotel on Thanon Sri Ayutthaya and walking down to Chavala for their 60 baht per hour massages, and after the normal hand-jobs, figured out that by sweetly talking there was more that I could get. Some of the Thai-oriented places charged 30-35 baht per hour depending on the type of room you wanted. The girls and the procedures haven't changed much; nice words and a caring attitude will always get you more than loudness and poor dress/manners.

Met a few girls on Sukhumvit and we went to a place (dance club) I had never been before: Bossy (in Pratunam area)
Just a normal place but nothing special. Quite many working girls.

Really loved the place, my mate (who lived in bkok) and I would pick up some "takeaways" from either the Beer Garden or a bar nearby and grab a taxi down to Bossy.

We were generally the only Farangs among the crowd, and boy was it crowded, mainly with Thai wannabes, there was also a sprinkling of p4p there as well.

There would be 3 or 4 different bands/entertainers on show during the evening, we would buy a bottle of johnny black and get into it.

The "Takeaways" we took all seemed to love it, at the end of the nite back in our rooms the girls showed their thanks, typical nite at Bossy would set each of us back around 1000bht.

The place closed around 2003, I wonder if there is any tie up between the place you mention and the "old" bossy.
