They always pull that "do you want to extend" crap at Fortune. They do that on purpose and it's the main reason I don't go there often. Yes, you do pay more for that. I think it's another 150k for the extra 45 minutes. I've never been there where they had pictures of the girls to look at. That must be new. Good to know.

I can never figure out Jakarta nightlife. It seems the places that offer the least are the most popular for the most part.

DragonFly is popular as heck and offers little to nothing. No live music, no dancing. And they charge a 100k cover charge that does not include a drink. Rip off. I can't understand why this place is popular.

CJ's is always crowded, but that's deservedly so. The venue is nice and the band is the best I've ever seen in Jakarta for pop music.

Mistere at the Ritz Carlton has the 2nd best band in Jakarta (after the awesome band at CJ's) , a nice dance floor, and nobody ever goes there any night except Friday night. And Friday is only busy because ladies drink free before midnight. (although the salsa night on Thursday and tango night on Saturday in the smaller bar area are always pretty busy). Given the venue and price, Mistere is probably the best bang for your buck in the city. But it's dead. Go figure.

There's a fairly new restaurant called Luna Negra in town. It's one of the new trendy places to go. Place is mediocre at best. An order of sop buntut at Top Gun in Blok M is better than anything on their menu.

Also I find the need to explain one thing. Though my adventure "expenditures" might raise more than one eyebrows from some fellow mongerers, I had not the slightest intention to disrupt the market rates.

Meaning while I'd never hassle for services, I'd also won't pay more as so to make harder for other fellow mongerers to get same service in that same market. Say in Hotel Travel or even in Alexis, I'd only pay what their normal rates are, and won't tip the wls over than what they'd normally received for good services. However, I also won't mind to pay big money for girls such as Fisherman's girsl since that's their market rate.

Hope this clear things up and I'll appreciate it if no more flame came from this issue.

Jakarta has 4 types of nightlife.

1."High end", the "in" places, where you go to see and be seen. And the local girls hunt for rich (white) bf's, or the girls who already have a sugar daddy / bf / husband who is away but sending money, go to show off their dress of the week and show the other girls that they have "made it". In this category we have Dragonfly, Blowfish, Lowey's.

2. FL places, always crowded because it has plenty of girls looking to sell their services and plenty of guys enjoying the view and hunting grounds. CJ's, Bats, some places in Blok M and to some degree Red Square etc.

3. Normal bars and clubs, normal outgoing crowd: X2, Immigrant etc. Only happening on weekends when normal people are out to party.

4. Pro Girly places: girls are part of the establishment to offer their services, so not really FL's, the venue will have rooms etc available for you to enjoy the girl you chose, plenty.

5. I said 4 types of nightlife, but list a number 5 because it offers no nightlife, but these are the places that does not attract girls of any kind and is therefore empty. Why don't they have girls? Maybe they have not bribed the right people to be allowed to have FL's etc, or they don't want it for other reasons. And they are not hip enough to attract normal girls.

Yes eveything has gone up here in Jarkata but so is many other place is SE asia and if you have USD you are screw, I remember after the SE asia crisis 1 USD to 13k rup but Hotel travel is the best deal in Jarkata for 300k, I was there 3 night out of 4 night first night Friday night at 5pm still not too many customer there are over 100 girl most are hot, I check out many other place still end up at hotel travel, price at Mewai hotel 6 th fl is now 500k and the girl are dog And block M is dead.

First of all, pop music sucks and bad cover renditions of pop music suck even more. The bands at bats and cj's rotate every couple of months or so, but I typically prefer the one at bats. Sometimes they play good rock stuff. The cj's bands are usually extraordinarily cheesy in the music they perform.

But getting back to Dfly. I assume nothing has changed since last year, but it's basically a normal modern day nightclub. There's no dance floor per se, which is unusual, but you can dance if you want to. If you're much over 40 and look it, then you're perceived as the weird old man in the club. That's one reason you don't understand.

Hmmmmmm That's a good theory. Live music has been out of style for 30 years? I wasn't old enough to drink 30 years ago so I'm not sure what the rage was back then, but I'll take your word for it being hot back then. I was 33 when I first came to Jakarta and back then could basically get any girl I wanted anywhere I went. Ya, I'm about 10 years older now and the girls don't flock like they used to. However, when I first arrived, I thought places similar to DragonFly (which didn't exist back then) sucked back then just like they do now. I've always liked places with live music better than places like Dragonfly where they have nothing to offer other than standing around listening to music played by a dj and no dancing. If there were girls popping their boobs out there for some entertainment, it would be ok. But that doesn't happen. I just don't see what entertainment value that place offers that you can't find anywhere.

Best place in Jakarta (in my opinion) was the old Hard Rock prior to it moving out of Sarinah. Hookers were in the bar area to the right and the "nice girls" were either upstairs or to the left or center so it was easy to know who was who. Haha. The bands there always got the crowds dancing (fairly rare to see that in Jakarta actually). By 2am, everyone was dancing on top of the tables. That place truly rocked. Sucks now that it's in EX though. Shame really.

Right now, I'd say CJ's is the best place in town. But the dance floor is pretty lame.

Dragonfly ain't for me. I doubt it would have been for me when I was 21 either.
