Pattaya is very easy to navigate with B10 baht busses covering the area you would spend most of your time in. For a first trip I would spend the first 3-4 nights in Bangkok and the next 4 in Pattaya. If you fall in love with Pattaya, spend a few more days there. I would then fly from you-Tapao Airport (45 minutes from Pattaya) non-stop to Phuket. Auto correct prevents me from properly spelling the Pattaya airport name. After a few days in Phuket you can decide if you want to stay in Phuket longer or return to BKK quicker. Just my. 02.
