This was a Sat night I think, definitely a weekend night, but I found it highly highly disappointing. Crowd was a little on the lame side, the music I thought blew (top 40 type stuff). In my professional opinion (since I've worked in several nightclubs and know the scene) it had all the hallmarks of a place that was NO LONGER the "in spot" to be, and was now desperately surviving on previous reputation and stragglers alone as the cool crowd had left it, as is the case in the natural club life cycle. That same evening, went to Dragonfly which was much better and X2 was very good for a "pedestrian" club. Of course, your mileage and likes / dislikes may differ from mine.

Given it's almost a year later, unless something has drastically changed, I think now it 's likely to completely suck, if it's even still open. (the owners surely sank some dough into the place, I wonder if they recouped their money, much less made a good profit when the times were good. Of course, given their location, they may be locked into an expensive lease.

The bands there always got the crowds dancing (fairly rare to see that in Jakarta actually). By 2am, everyone was dancing on top of the tables. That place truly rocked. Sucks now that it's in EX though. Shame really.

Right now, I'd say CJ's is the best place in town. But the dance floor is pretty lame.

Yes, outside of the US, live club music remains far more popular than back stateside. However, the big trend in clubs has been to play Electronic Dance Music (starting with 80's synth stuff and then house music) ever since the mid 80's. I know because I started sneaking into clubs at that time and then worked in several after I turned legal.

The cool "in" places now will play progressive / trance. No live music with cheesy pop covers thank you though I'll grant you that Indo girls / women will still love those very very painful cheesy shows at CJ's.

Bottom line though is that even in the developing world, the "in" places have modeled themselves after the US and London, etc. Why do all the "cool" places in Bali play trance / progressive? Why do thousands of people flock to Stadium and Millenium, especially on weekends? Is it to hear good "live bands" doing cheesy pop covers, etc?

the younger people around the world, whether it's good or not can be debated, continue to be heavily influenced by Western, especially American cultural influence.

All this said, you certainly have a right to your tastes / preferences.

Hard to find at first but cool once there. I took many "freebies " Can recall many interesting evenings out on the balcony prompting a gal to use the telescope which invariably got focused on the hotel opposite or to the side. People are inherrently nosy and you could always find a man and woman in a room about to or having previously got it on. Set the mood well for a freebie night LOL. Anyways after a year or so the bar always seemed to have some sort of private party going on and was way way less of an attraction to visit. Nice concept, well detailed, great layout, but it kind of lost its way. Havtn been there for a year now.
