Typically, the best exchange rate is through the ATM. However, the fees charged by the ATM owner and by your bank can change that. Many banks charge a foreign currency fee, along with a fee for using an out of network ATM.

I did a search of "money exchange in Medellin" and looked at all the places which have a website. The rates go from 3140 to 3190. Only Money Max and Unicambios have 3190.
When I am in Medellin, I always use ATM's. The rate is very close to the [URL]xe.com[/URL] rate of one or two days prior.

I used the trustworthy Colpatria / Scotia ATM, (there is a list of them on the Colpatria website) There were no ATM fees (as is NO fees at all for the dopes on this site who don't get what 'no fees' means. There were no 'conversion fees' meaning that you put your Visa / Mastercard in the ATM. As I do, I take out 2,700,000 divided by 900,000 and then look at your bank's website to see what you were debited. This morning I received 3277.13 pesos per dollar. Now if you are a genius and use a casa de cambio to exchange dollars for pesos my question is when you go there do you wear a dunce cap or do you just look dumb without the hat.

Most banks in the US charge an out-of-network ATM fee and a foreign transaction fee. Unless someone uses a bank that does not charge those fees, he must consider those fees when calculating the exchange rate. One of the posters here stated his bank fees are "brutal". It is possible that he could get a better rate from a cambio than the real rate from an ATM.

You're dead on with the rest. There are 4 basic fees with any foreign ATM transaction.
1. The ATM owner's fee for using their ATM. I think the highest I've seen is 15 k in Colombia. Your bank may reimburse this fee.
2. The exchange rate used for the transaction. This varies somewhat. The rate you receive is typically slightly less than the current rate.
3. Your bank's out of network ATM fee. Your bank may not charge this fee, or it may charge 4%. Your bank may have an agreement with the foreign bank to eliminate the fee. So, for example, you might get the fee at a Servibanco, but not get the fee at Colpatria-Scotia.
4. Your bank's foreign exchange fee. Once again, it may be zero, or 3%.
If you're using a credit card instead of a debit card there may be a cash advance fee.
#1 depends on the ATM you use. #2 may depend on either bank. #3 depends on your bank, but also may depend on the ATM owner. #4 depends on your bank.
If 10 different people, using cards from 10 different banks use the same ATM, they will likely end up with several different exchange rates. Just because 1 person is charged no fees doesn't guarantee everyone else will have the same experience. All banks are not equal.

Words and phrases to watch for:

Una cita. An appointment or date. Usually not a traditional date.

If a girl starts talking dollars, get her to pesos. If she wants to deal in dollars, she's going to cheat you.

I take a different approach. 3 weeks before heading to Medellin, I scroll through some facebook chicas I know and check out their friends lists, and I look at the lists of some of the men they are friends with. If you don't know any chicas yet, read through the forum--there have been enough names put out here to get anybody started. There is also 'Medellin Rich' and scrolling through his friends list. Then, if I see a girl I want, I send a standard message--more or less the same to everyone-just copied and pasted.

LOL.[/QUOTE]Colombia is the best country I have been to by far with SA. I would be more likely to go for a different city in Colombia over another country, and I doubt you will have time. I would start in Bogota then do Medellin than do Cartagena as Plan B and C.
You will need a visa to go to Brazil. If you can get one, and it is doable but a pain and not always cheap, then your backup would be Sao Paulo. The women in SP are better in every way IMO than the women in Rio but Rio is a great city with a lot to do and SP is kind of a dump.
The top women in Brazil are better looking and better performers than the women in Colombia IMO, but there is a sweetness and intelligence to the best Colombian woman that the best Brazilian women IMO cannot meet. And the women in both countries put the women in the USA Sex gulag to shame.
The best women in Panama are the same types in Colombia, Vennies and Colombians, and they want much more $$$ so there is no reason to go there.
You do not need a visa for Argentina, and BA would be a good backup if you have no Brazilian visa. You will have far more to choose from in BA but if time were not an issue, I would consider looking at the college town of Cordoba and Mendoza ahead of BA. Argentine women are smart and beautiful but they have a deserved reputation for being distant. As a friend said of BA, "Anywhere you look around, you can find an Argentina woman who rates as an 8, but there are very few 10's. The 10's were in Colombia and Brazil. " It is just so far to get to BA. A nonstop to Bogota is relatively easy. A trip to Southern Brazil or Argentina is a serious pain.
I would put Peru as #4. You will find a lot of women on SA in Lima. Peruvians tend to be sweet, caring, and skilled in the sack, but they are often not as attractive as you will find in other parts of Latin America. Peru though is second only to Colombia with regards to Venezuelan refugees and you can find attractive, intelligent, and skilled Vennie women in Peru. They will be a bit more expensive in Lima as Lima is more expensive than Colombia but nowhere near what you would pay in Panama.
