about two years ago the police raided those places and they are most definitely gone.
the tuk-tuk people only take you to houses where they asume some girls can be had. i gave up on mongering in chiangrai, because none of those girls could be had and others indeed, as domino posted, ask for outrageous sums of money.
'that street' offers you the chance to peek into the lives of non-working-expats in thailand - it isn't pretty:(.

Do you mean Grace Hotel in Bangkok? I am there now, coming to Mae Sai next week, then to Tachilek and Mong La. As you all know that area is just a shadow of its past, Grace also is now. But Tachilek is improving, and Mong La was great but not cheap.

before commenting on nan, let me say:

1 good **** post by freeler in pattaya section.
2. yes, you can bonk bareback with zero risk of hiv. read on.
3. the strip in c rai is on a privately owned road so it is probably a political deal there. the bus stration at night might be ok fro a look but not worth the hassle. there is a cheap hotel nearby.
4. nan is a long way from anywhere, including the burmese piggies of mae sai who told me going bareback in burma is fine as there is no hiv there. so now you know: the 300 baht sluts tell me what the un don't want to hear. burma is hiv free and santa, who bonks there, is hiv free too.
5. the brothels of nan and phrae have the highest hiv rate in los. where you get hiv, you get hookers, where you get brothels you get hookers and where you get hookers, you get

This is the sleepiest Thai town I have ever been in. It is asleep by 10 pm Friday night. No taxis, motorbikes etc to be seen after that. Domino patrolled by motorbike along the river, past the big military base, past all the cheap hotels, night markets etc. Nothing. No massage parlors, no tuk tukers asking if I need anything, no one speaks English, no teenagers out having a (good) time. This place is the end of the road, no through traffic so not much p4p. The town itself is a colection of wats and concentric roads. Nothing much to see really. Just as well I am staying in a 180 baht short time hotel along the main street, which is so quiet at night it is hard to believe it is the main street of even a village.

since Thailand seems to be your favoured destination, why not finally learn a couple of thai words for some basic conversation ? That will ease up traveling and no one needs to speak English.

The main action is on the beer bar-lined Soi Bintabaht opposite the entrance to the Hilton hotel. Got to say though that any beer bar that names itself 'Starfish' (2nd on the left) has a little to learn about marketing.

Many of the still-available girls gravitate to the excellent Hua Hin Brewing Company disco (on the front of the Hilton) after midnight to freelance.

Exept from the students (who are very lovely, but difficult to get), most of the farang catering girls in HH are old, fat and ugly.

HH is crowded with farangs who have married a 40+ year old former hooker.

Except from Soi Bintabat (all hotels have the 'Thaiways' map), there are a few bars in the soi leading from Poon Suk Rd to Soi 57. Also, you can find girls in some bars/restaurants around HH Bazar (100 m. from the beach - Damnern Kasem Rd).

There is only one MP in HH, it goes by the name Diamond Pub. Any taxi or MC outside the shopping mall knows the place. Price: 1500 - but you need a sweet mouth, the two girls I like will not go with me - 'mai koey bpai kap farang ma gon'.

In Soi 72 (the tourist strip where the non available student show their assets) there are two houses for Thai men. ST: 300, 500 for farang. Same story: The young girls will not go: 'farang ham jai - goh dtoa farang men'. If you want to try your luck, tell an MC at the shopping mall that you want to 'bpai tiow puying glai glai talat ponn'. MC 15 + tip 100 for introducing you.

West of the railway tracks (on the unnamed street with an elephant picture (on the map)), you will find several karaoke/restaurants for the Thais. I have taken out 'nakrongplaeng' (singers) many times: 1200+. You need a taxi from the shopping mall: 150 for 2 hours (he waits you - and take you and the girl back. OK, now high season, may be more?).

Final advice: HH is a fcucking tourist machine, totally boring...and crowded with white holiday trash.

You know better than that!
HH is home to visitors from Scandinavia, mainly families. People are known to get stuck there, simply because it is... pleasantly boring.

I'll be in Udon Thani at the end of april and stay for a few weeks. Any hotel recomendations for under 1000 baht.
I want something quite, well lit, safe in room, gf, satelite tv, and private.

Is that asking to much? I don't have to be in the center of town. I prefer the quite and privacy.

I would think a 1000 Baht would go a long way up there.

Try Udon Hotel or Karin Hotel. B 400-800. I have stayed in both of them on and off for more than a year. Never had a problem ...

For this amount there is no tourist safe in the room though - but the deposit boxes/safe in the reception gives the same result.

Please tip the girls what you save from the 1000 you can afford.
