When comparing some common traits of dentists/dental assistants and Thai hookers I see vast differences and if you don’t then either you are either just being argumentative or are somehow able operate in your own reality (which is fine if it works for you but your reality does not at all work for me.)

Are all hookers like this - no. But after time, USUALLY, the associated difficulties of hookering will beat down even the sweetest girl. Those who are not are the exceptions - and there certainly are exceptions. Perhaps you have only experienced the exceptions. If so, bravo, well done and continued success. But those are exceptions, not the norm. The norm is that over time MOST will become some version of this evolution.

And lets not even bring up the discussion that people who choose this type of existence may have some imbalance the prevents them from choosing conventional careers (hookering is not a career or “profession’. It’s a FAILURE to choose a career or real profession – even in Thailand). Like a lot of things we do out of need, the occasional transgression can be overlooked. The danger being that if continued too long it may come to define you and that’s what we are talking about here isn’t it. The girls that have been at this long enough (no matter what their age – some burn out at a young age) to have their character, attitude, behavior, you name it, defined by this extremely difficult environment that is hookering. They are human beings after all, as you say - not good not bad but defined by their actions or attitude and as you say “its all about attitude” after all.

Most experienced mongers have developed a keen sense about these things. It usually takes only a few minutes of carefully directed conversation to decide what you have sitting in front of you. We approach every situation with the highest expectations but realize that no matter how sweet the fragrance it could all turn to insanity in a New York minute and we’re ready for that. If not then it's another great outing and as they say Bob’s your uncle…

i think daddy07 has a good point here, although he may have stretched it a bit too far. obviously dentists and their hygienists have gone through a little more education, training, and certification than your average thai sw. still the point is valid. both beethoven and the rolling stones are musicians and worked in the entertainment industry. some people cannot see that.

i see prostitutes as workers in the healthcare service industry. is what a girl performs in an oily massage parlor so different from what a "legitimate" masseuse does, that they deserve to be looked down upon by some? the filth is in the mind. isn't having sex when needed or wanted therapeutic? therefore relieving their client’s sexual tension is not that far off from having a physical fitness expert massage a patient’s pulled tendon.

If you do a bit of research, you will find that many of Thailand's private hospitals and clinics have dubious reps for overcharging. Fact is, it's a way of life from top to bottom in the country that deserves it's nickname 'the land of scams'.

Again, this type of practice goes on at all levels in Thailand, from taxis through to 5* hotels and beyond.

Allow me to let you in on a well-kept secret (:D): Lying and flattery are a way of life in Thailand.

I'm always reminded of these wise words by a former poster whenever I read the ugly, dismissive, disparaging comments about Thai prostitutes:

A failure? Most hookers earn a lot more than the average wage in the Land of Smiles (even without taking into account extra income they get from their sponsors!)! Most of the Thai prostitutes are coming from the rural and poorest parts of their country where the education level is very low (they have the worst teachers and don't learn much more than very basic things).

People who were born in a poor village don't have many opportunities to attend a good university. Not because they are all stupid, but because the dices are loaded. In these areas, they are not educating the sons and daughters of peasants to become something else other than future farmers, peasants or blue-collar workers.

I know how some local girls choose to become prostitutes. Those girls know very well that it's their best chance for them and their parents (because they usually help them financially too) to live a better life. So, this choice of career is not a failure for them. IMHO, it should not even be considered as the failure of the local educational system, because this state of things in the poorest parts of the country is almost certainly intentional (it serves the purposes of the local elite).

I took her from Shark Bar a year ago. Her name was Noot and she had a great smile (and huge boobs for such a small girl). Had fun with her, but didn't get any contact info. Anyone seen her?

Planning a first-time trip to Thailand in a few months and planning on staying in Pattaya. From reading this forum it appears to me that Pattaya is a better option for price and ease of mongering compared to Bangkok. I will be arriving in Bangkok on a Saturday afternoon and spending a week in country. Would it be worthwhile to spend the first night in Bangkok and then go to Pattaya the next day or is the city too complicated to navigate for a true newbie that just got off the plane and only has a few hours?

If all you have is one week, then heading straight for Pat is not a bad idea. It is about a 2 hour drive, so if you can arrange to get there before 7pm to 8pm, then you will have the entire night in Pat and it will be great.

Otherwise, I would spend Saturday night in BKK. It is not that hard to navigate the city if your main interest is in bar hopping and getting laid. Read up on BKK hotels and pick a girl friendly Sukhumvit hotel in your price range near Soi Cowboy. I prefer BKK to Pat because there is a lot more to see and do. BKK is a major Asian city and is full of culture. But I have to admit that Pattaya is sexual Disneyland and it will blow your mind. For example, Soi Cowboy is great, but it is only one block long. Walking Street is 10 times longer (estimate).

The time your plane is scheduled to leave Thailand should also influence you planning. If the plane leaves late at night or very early in the morning, then I suggest spending your last night in BKK. Otherwise you can just go from Pat straight to the airport.

It just might seem a little weird to go all the way to Bangkok and not see the city at all.

It is all depending if you're trying to cope with your jetlag or not. A day of rest in Bangkok is a good idea before you jump into another 3 hours of journey to Pattaya and let you compare what you'll be getting at Bangkok.

This could be evidenced by innumerable evidence from life the internet and peoples personal accounts.

I now follow the "Kumbujeck Doctrine" basically a life manual on dealing with people in every situation.

Personally I would rush straight to Pattaya! Make a reservation for a limousine with Mr T (1000 THB from airport to your place in Pattaya, in 1h30) (drive to an hotel in Bangkok is maybe 45 mn), sleep on the back seat if you are tired and enjoy relaxing in Pattaya. Bangkok is not relaxing and very hot. Bangkok is only worh staying if you want to visit touristic places (Grand Palace, etc...). For one night it's not worth staying there.

As you only have a week I would go straight to Pattaya as the airport is on that side of Bangkok. You should be in Pattaya around 5pm if you get to BKK airport around 2pm .

It depends on what kind of girls you like. Pattaya is cheaper than bkk, but you get what you pay for. Bangkok is a mega city and has more variety of girls and if you know where to look (and have cash) you can pretty much get anything you want.

So basically, if you want cheap and easy go to Pattaya. If you want top of the line, go to BKK.
