I never quite get the point when someone points out that pros are doing it for the money. Of course they are. Isn't anyone doing any job for pay doing it for the money. That is why we work isn't it? Money is just energy in a particular form we have all decided is convenient for barter. If you have a lot in the bank it just menas that you have a lot of that particular form of energy in reserve and can, if you wish, trade it for another form of much prized energy-divine feminine energy. More commonly known as pussy.
My point is that it is all illusion (not just the sex trade) and one needs only decide how much of the illusion one wants to see. I personally would not go to a movie and then spend the whole time complaining that Indiana Jones is actually a 50 something actor and his daring stunts are actually being performed by 20 something professional stunt men. I enjoy the movie for which I have paid good money. If Indiana falls in love, loses the girl then recues her from the Nazis and saves the world from Satan-I am happy for him and for myself to the extent that I identify with the hero. Then I leave the theater feeling satisfied for a couple of hours.
Please-if I wanted realism I would walk in front of a bus. And even then I suspect I would just find another level of illusion. It is a fun house, a house of mirrors in which we live. Find a reflection that is prettier than you are and enjoy.
Dude,
Have you been listening to Bill Hicks?
It depends on what kind of girls you like. Pattaya is cheaper than bkk, but you get what you pay for. Bangkok is a mega city and has more variety of girls and if you know where to look (and have cash) you can pretty much get anything you want.
So basically, if you want cheap and easy go to Pattaya. If you want top of the line, go to BKK.
In Edward M's case I would suggest going directly to Patts. He would only have 1 day in BKK and he doesn't know where to look. Save BKK for the next trip. I am sure he can find a hottie or two in Pattaya.

My suggestion
Planning a first-time trip to Thailand in a few months and planning on staying in Pattaya. From reading this forum it appears to me that Pattaya is a better option for price and ease of mongering compared to Bangkok. I will be arriving in Bangkok on a Saturday afternoon and spending a week in country. Would it be worthwhile to spend the first night in Bangkok and then go to Pattaya the next day or is the city too complicated to navigate for a true newbie that just got off the plane and only has a few hours?
Negotiate with a taxi driver for about 1000 baht to take you to Pattaya from the airport. I prefer to do it at the the departure level because they have little time to make their decision. Make clear to him that you'll pay yourself extra for the toll way (about 80 baht) otherwise he will try to avoid it in order to save some baht. Choose a new taxi for more confortable ride.
Enjoy Pattaya untill the previous day of your departure. Then after breakfast take a taxi to a Bangkok hotel near Shukumvit road. Visit a soapie (IMHO a must for a first comer eg Annies close by) in early afternoon, Tulip or Mango later on if you have the strength, then go to Gulliver's on Sukhumvit soi 5 for a nice dinner and pick up a lady from there for the night or from soi Cowboy or Nana area near by and you are done with BKK.
Make sure to arrange for a wake up call and try to be two hours ahead at the airport. It is a long way to the gates.
Personally I would rush straight to Pattaya! Make a reservation for a limousine with Mr T (1000 THB from airport to your place in Pattaya, in 1h30) (drive to an hotel in Bangkok is maybe 45 mn), sleep on the back seat if you are tired and enjoy relaxing in Pattaya. Bangkok is not relaxing and very hot. Bangkok is only worh staying if you want to visit touristic places (Grand Palace, etc...). For one night it's not worth staying there.
I would also recommend to go straight to Pattaya in Edward M's case. It's easier for a newbie to get some experience about the local P4P scene here first. P4P is available almost everywhere in Pattaya. The working girls knows why you are there and more often than not, they are the ones who will take the initiative and start a chat. Even the shyest guy will get laid really quickly in Pattaya with no or minimum hassles.
In Bangkok, the red districts are a small part of the city. P4P is more expensive there and probably less "newbie friendly" than Pattaya. But Pattaya may be a bit boring early in the day, while Bangkok seems to be perpetually bustling with activity.
For a first and short sojourn, I would recommend to stay most of your time first in Pattaya, and your last two days (for instance) in Bangkok (Sukhumvit area).
Edward M, if you want to use a private taxi service to go to Pattaya straight after your arrival at the airport, several reliable ones are mentioned here:
I took her from Shark Bar a year ago. Her name was Noot and she had a great smile (and huge boobs for such a small girl). Had fun with her, but didn't get any contact info. Anyone seen her?
If you really want to find lady Noot, then go back to the Shark Bar and ask the ladies there about her. Bar ladies usually know each other. And some of the ladies there might know where to find lady Noot.
But you shouldn't be surprised if lady Noot has found a permanent man for herself, and she no longer is available to go out with other guys. A lot of guys like the kind of boobs she has. Ladies like that usually don't take long to find a permanent rich farang for themselves.
...this extremely difficult environment that is hookering.
Its funny you should put it that way because most Thai women I know consider 'hookering' to be the 'easy way out'. Its a lot easier to make 1,000 baht in an hour of sex than in a week of heavy toil cleaning rooms, cooking, or factorying.
Planning a first-time trip to Thailand in a few months and planning on staying in Pattaya. Would it be worthwhile to spend the first night in Bangkok and then go to Pattaya the next day or is the city too complicated to navigate for a true newbie that just got off the plane and only has a few hours?
It seems the general consensus is that you should high-tail it down to Pattaya. I would not disagree with that assessment, but for the sake of complicating matters, here are some other ideas.
Having just spent a month in Thailand during which I spent a lot of time in BKK and Pattaya, I can tell you that both places are excellent. BKK is not too complicated to deal with, and there is plenty of excitement to be had.
If it were me, and this is just me, I would spend the first 3 nights in BKK and the last 4 in Pattaya. The day trip down to Pattaya is not a waste of time since I usually don't monger during the day (that's just me). Furthermore, you could take a taxi from Pattaya on your last day and be at the airport by the time your flight departs with no problem.
Pattaya is indeed far simpler, but that does not always mean better. Everything in Pattaya is...compact. All the action is in a tight area, and there is little traveling that needs to be done. So four nights will be enough to fully sample the goods on offer here.
BKK is a big city with far more options. There are many different kinds of massage places, gogo bars, high-end dance halls, regular discos, loads of SWs, etc. The variety is far greater, and the prices are indeed higher. I find the excitement of BKK is something you can't find in Pattaya, but there is the added hassle of traffic and congestion. On the plus side, the food is FAR better in BKK than in Pattaya. For whatever reason, I find I cannot get a decent meal in Pattaya, but maybe that's the snob in me.
So overall, I would not shy away from splitting your trip between the two places. If you are shy and a little meek, I would say go to Pattaya - it's easier. Everything is set up for the sex tourist. If you are up for a challenge (and enjoy such things), I would split my time between the two places.

It's not the snob in you. You're statement is spot on! I can't figure out why the food in Pattaya sucks either.

I don´t know, I´ve always gotten good food at this place: http://www.gregskitchennorthpattaya.com/
But I´m not much of a food snob.

Pattaya Food
I always had really good food at Sugar Hut and Cabbages & Condoms; both in Pattaya.

Can you be specific about where you've eaten in Patts and Bangers?
-
Can you be specific about where you've eaten in Patts and Bangers?
Umm, I'll try. Sorry, not for lack of want, but I just don't remember many names. I'll show you what I mean:
- A hotel on second road, past South Pattaya Road (I think this is technically called Pratamnak rd.). It isn't the Erawan hotel, but nearby, a little closer to S. P. road, and on the same side as Erawan hotel. Had noodles, rice, Tom Yum, all no good.
- The various Arab restaurants across the street from there, all mediocre at best.
- The Wave in the Marriott building - terrible food, way overpriced. I tried the Thai booth, the Indian booth, and that's all I could handle.
- Some place on soi 2, they had free wifi so I stopped in and tried some pad siu. Terrible.
- Coffee Club. This place is not all that bad - a little expensive and snooty, but not terrible. The best thing I have had in there was the cashew chicken. Their breakfast eggs and stuff are not terribly good, mostly because of the bread they have. They only have white bread, but if you request it, they will give you something they call Turkish bread, which is basically thick white bread. Their coffee is ok.
- breakfast at various places like Lek Hotel, that cheap hotel on the corner of soi Diana and 2nd road (the one that advertises 600B rooms? forget the name).
- I ate at that outdoors place opposite soi Diana on 2nd rd (on the beach side) once with a girl. She ordered, and the fish she got was great, the curry I got was lousy.
- That place on Walking street, next to soi 16, showcasing seafood and stuff. They have a guy who walks around in a cowboy outfit. They have an indoor a/c area, which is why I ate there. The seafood stuff was not bad, other things were not terribly good. Overpriced, IMHO. Wanted to try the French place just down the street from there, but it was a sweltering night and I needed the a/c.
- Some German restaurant on 2nd rd past soi Diana...sorry, can't remember the name.
- That Italian coffee/gelato joint on soi Buakhao. Their coffee is pretty good, but I found their food insipid and overly cheesy. And expensive too.
- The outdoors restaurant right on the corner of soi Diana and 2nd rd (non-beach side). This place is ok - decent prices. The noodles are not to rave about, but you could do worse.
- The restaurant inside the supermarket in that complex right there. It's next to the California Wow. This restaurant is not too bad - it has a/c, so that makes up for a lot. + it's open 24 hours.
- That place next to Marine disco...the outdoor food place. The fish here was actually pretty good, but I can't eat a whole fish by myself. Ever. But it was damned tasty. Other stuff was downright wretched.
- Once, in desperation, I ate at Mr Sandwich. I had a chicken shawarma - tttttterrible.
- food court at Central Festival. Not all that bad, actually.
- That pub on soi Buakhao, with the green sign...the Thingy and Booby? What's it's name? Turn left from soi Diana onto soi Buakhao, it's on your right hand side, before you get to the Italian coffee/gelato place. I ate there once with a girl, and she sat next to me. All I remember about that place is her silky inner thigh in the palm of my hand. That and the 90 minute erection I had.
Umm, that's all I can remember for now. I like the suggestions people are posting - I'm keeping a list and I will be sure to visit them when I return.
So that's Patts. As for...Bangers...did you say? Nice. I'll post that in the, ehem, Bangers section.

BKK/Pattaya
Edward M:
Pattaya and BKK are both great and you should see them both. My suggestion would be the 2 first nites in BKK. Stay right on the BTS line because the skytrain is so easy to navigate. Spend one night mongering at Nana and the other at Soi Cowboy. They are in the same general area. You would also have a full day to take in the Grand Palace and other sightseeing venues.
The remaining five nights could be spent in Pattaya. After a few days in Pattaya, you'll be able to decide whether or not to spend your last night in Pattaya or BKK.
Check out the hotel forums for both BKK and Pattaya. You'll get good advice there.

Coconut Bar!
Coconut Bar (Best value for money in Pattaya!)
There have been many posts over the years each promoting a particular type of venue for finding a “playmate” in Pattaya.
Some mongers like the Go – Go’s. Others prefer the massage parlours or Bar Beers. Discos are favoured by some. The list of possible types of venue where you can find P4P company is endless.
Although I would not argue that each of these venues has its own benefits and merits I believe there is a good case for voting “Coconut Bar” as the best overall value for money in the whole of Pattaya.
For those that do not know, “Coconut Bar” is the name that many Thai girls use for the area of Beach Rd. stretching from Walking street in the South to Soi 1 in the north of Pattata, a distance of around 2.5 / 3.0 miles.
Over the years, in response to my question “Where you work?” many Thai girls have told me “I work Coconut Bar!”
I can’t remember the first time I heard this answer but I know that it had to be explained to me that, because the beach side of this road is lined with Palm Trees someone had nicknamed it “Coconut Bar.” The longest bar (and the most girls) in the whole of Pattaya!
From late morning to 4.00 or 5.00 am the next day a wide range of companions can be found here.
OK, quality varies and I have to admit that there can be some real horrors here who should have retired years (or maybe DECADES) ago but there are also some real stunners!
Prices generally average around 500 Baht for short time and many girls are pleased to stay as long as you want, happy to be in your cool A.C. room with some company and out of the heat.
For me, this is my preferred hunting ground when I am looking for a little afternoon fun. A stroll along Beach Rd. will usually come up with a playmate for me. Some of the girls are from Go - Go’s or Bar Beers and are there for some extra money before starting the main job. Some are shop / restaurant workers working the late shift and for some this seems to be the only job and are there virtually 24/7.
Weekends can be rather good, especially towards the end of the month, with many girls catching a bus from the surrounding area to have a little fun in Pattata (and perhaps go back with a little money in their pocket.) and supplement the gap between end of month and end of money!
I believe that many of the girls here are “freelance” or “Part-timers” and they are not so hardened as many of their sisters found in the main P4P venues and offer rather more of a GFE than may be found elsewhere.
One example, from last week. Walking along Beech Road found a sweet young lady sitting on her own. I sat down with her and started to talk. Over the course of my “Job interview” I found out that,
She was 19 years old.
Chinese / Thai (Typical Chinese looking face, with white skin.)
No babies (but still a little bit of “Puppy Fat.”
First trip to Pattaya and had been there just 3 weeks.
Spoke quite reasonable English.
Rather sweet looking.
I usually prefer them a little older, with a bit of experience, but as this one seemed so cute I agreed that I would pay her minimum 400 Baht plus a performance based tip IF she was good.
So, off we go to my room after stopping to buy some drinks for us.
I do not need to go into a full account of the next 3 hours but when a playmate puts your finger into her mouth and then requests you to “put it up her arse” then it is probably a sign that the session may well be an interesting one! Another good sign is when she looks at you with those innocent eyes and asks, “Will you come in my mouth, PLEEEEESE!!”
Well, how could any man refuse such a polite request?
Result, probably one of the BEST sessions that I have had in Pattaya for some years, and YES she got her performance bonus. I even repeated with her one week later. Equally as good if not better.
OK, I can not claim that EVERY session with a “Coconut Bar” girl will be perfect, life is not like that, but the chance to talk to the girl, for as long as you want, to see if she meets YOUR job spec puts YOU in the driving seat!
I have NEVER had any problem with any girl that I found here, being dishonest or trying to steal from me.
As always, YMMV but with a huge amount of choice, time to chat before deciding, and with YOU in control of the situation then I still maintain that “Coconut Bar” is the best overall value for money in the whole of Pattaya.
My lords, and fellow Mongers, I rest my case. Go try!
Hotman.

Hi,
Good solid well written report Hotman. One does have to wonder though about the innocence (three weeks in Patts?) of a girl who then proceeds to request you stick it up her ass and come in her mouth. Not that I would quibble with her about that. As I often say, just make it believable enough so I don't look too much a fool for believing it;)
Thanks for the report. It makes me want to make another trip to the LOS.
