But Wombat completely disagrees with you and insists the 16/1 rate is "great" for HK. Wombat is clearly saying it is better to have 16 pesos than 18 pesos. According to Wombat it is far better for a monger to pay in dollars than pesos at HK.

Outside of La Zona, peso-based prices are more stable and do not fluctuate with exchange rate. But around La Zona, prices of a lot of staple items, tacos, beers, pussies etc. Tend to be pegged to the dollar, and prices in pesos would rise as the dollar go up.

So if one earns income in pesos, then the lower rate of 16 pesos to the dollar works to one's advantage, which is likely the case of Clammy.

For dollar earners, exchange the dollar for pesos at 18.5 per, then spend the pesos for beers, tacos and pussies at 16 pesos to the dollar, works to their advantage.

I usually take cash out of the Scotia ATM next to Adelita. It charges 9. 5 pesos transaction fee and Bank of America charges no foreign transaction fees for account with high balance, yielding rates slightly better than the cambios'. Of course negotiating and spending local currencies is the best way to immerse in local cultures.

When I drive into Tijuana, what I like to do is park at the Soriana parking on the arrival road, 3rd. It's almost at the top of the hill before Revolucin.
