Unless I misread it, your "first two pulls" were the same girl from Butterflies and in all three cases you paid the girl's 3,000 baht quoted fee upfront in the bar, right?
Of course, Your Mileage May Vary as usual. But in my experience your getting a happy experience with the first Butterflies girl after paying her fee upfront in the bar was the rare exception result, a truely rare gem of a girl, while the result you got with the second Butterflies girl, your third pull that turned out to be a disaster, would be the norm in a pay upfront arrangement.
Additionally, I'm guessing you did not specify anything upfront before paying the money in the bar regarding DFK, BBBJ, BBFSCIP or whatever it was that made that first girl experience so happy but that the second girl felt she had no reason to provide anything. Which, unless you did get a specific upfront agreement for those things from that second girl, she is pretty much within her rights to refuse doing them and keep the 3,000 baht you paid upfront.
So, if that is how it was with no upfront agreement from her to do anything that you expected to happen for the money in order for you to be happy about it, "going with the flow and seeing what happens in the room" so to speak, then marching back to the bar to complain might have been interesting for all involved and might possibly have made the mamasan unhappy. But, imo, it would not have been an inspiration for the mamasan or the girl to give your money back or to do anything different for the next guy who comes along.
For me, unless I ask for it upfront before I pay the money and get a clear and unambiguous Yes reply to it, it is highly unlikely it will happen in the room. No matter what it is. And paying the girl's fee upfront instead of after the sex session at any point whether it is paid upfront in the bar or paid upfront 5 seconds before gets into bed is the best way to ensure an unhappy experience for me.

I see you stated the Butteflies girls' quoted fees were 4,000 baht, not 3,000 baht and the one at Bunny's was 3,000 baht. Yeah, for that plus the barfine I would have needed to cite and get an upfront agreement for every major detail I wanted to happen in the session in order to be happy about it. And I would have walked away from any Pay Upfront deal other than for the barfine.
But that is just me.
Who knows, maybe every Pay Upfront and Go With The Flow And See What Happens In The Room arrangement you agree to from now on with a Thai gogo girl will turn out terrific and that one unhappy experience with the Butterflies girl will turn out to be the rare exception. Anything is possible I suppose.
However, if I followed that approach every time with Thai gogo girls all indications are the ratio of fails to happy experiences would be ridiculously lopsided toward fails. Guaranteed.
So, have read all of Steve 9696's reports and found them very valuable indeed given my upcoming trip. His reports in other forums (London / Spain / Germany) are also very good. Following on from his experiences of Nana bars (recommends Billboard and Butterflies) I enjoyed the report from Expat American, mainly due to his experience at Pimp.
I tried Pimp last year and found it a cold experience, but I wondered if I didn't stay long enough? I felt I was being ripped off so left early. Despite this, I really like the idea of an excellent high end gentlemans bar where you can enjoy a whole night of on stage performances, VIP room pool, KTV with a few girls, fun etc. Yep - "expensive" by Thai standards, but not by European standards. Paying circa 12-15,000 baht equates to about 400 euros. Truth is that most guys who visit FKK clubs in Germany, or one of the top clubs in Spain (Vive Madrid, Scandalos Malaga, E92 Fuengirola) will very easily spend 400 euros in a night for an hour or so with one girl, entry, drinks etc. Ok it is very tempting, when its possible to go to a BJ bar in BKK or Pattaya and be well serviced for a tenth of that price to think its crazy to spend this sort of cash. But for a tourist to come to BKK and enjoy a night in a top club / top venue like Maria's, Black Caviar, Sherbet Club, M club, Elite (13 Thonglor) as a one off is not a bad deal. But only of course if the quality of the girls is top rate and the entertainment the same.
So here is a question for experienced BKK forum members, but including the recent tourists: assume you have 4 nights in BKK. How do you spend them? Easy to say 1 night Nana, 1 night Soi Cowboy, 1 night 7 Heaven, etc. But what of other options? Nobody reports on Soi Thaniya yet a see a YouTube video from Jonny recently visiting Sena Club there where some of the girls look really attractive. The recent videos of Thaniya look like there are a lot of good options. Would that be one of your four nights? Thermae? What about one of high end soapies. La Belle? Or even the quirky Stocking Massage Spa? My trips to BKK inevitably result in nights barfining from agogos. I would really like to look at other options this time, but am strictly limited to four nights. Budget is happily not a consideration. Don't like escorts so Thai Friendly etc totally out. That's possible the world over. And I hate bait and switch. I like to select from a (real not ipad) line up so I can see exactly what I'm buying (renting! So, how would you guys choose to spend 4 nights only if budget wasn't an option? Steve 9696 might STILL say he'the spend at least one of them at Butterflies? What I did is visit a massage parlor during the day and then hit the GoGos at night. There was a noticeable step down in the amount of girls for low season compared to my trip back in April so I would stick to the bigger places if I were you. I still think most of the top girls at at the GoGos, Thermae is alright on a Friday and Saturday but it felt relatively sparse otherwise. No matter the night though, Billboard always felt it had the most customers and girls.
So my recommendation is do the massages during the day and Nana at night. If it's early Friday / Saturday then can try Thermae for ST and hit the GoGos after.

Another poster has followed up with some girls in Billboard quote 4,000 baht. I have never been quoted above 3,000 baht for short time by any girl in Billboard or Butterflies. I may have been quoted more by a mamasan before I learned to never talk to a mamasan unless I needed her for something and I don't need her to pay a barfine. I simply tell the girl what we're going to do in the room and give her the money to pay the bar, she can deal with the mamasan if she needs to. I always pay the girl after the service.
In bars that I frequent a lot the mamasans are my friends after getting to know each other and we help each other. They bring me new girls that they know I will like and I tip them.
In bars that I'm less known if the girl wants to bring the mamasan over I simply hand the mamasan the money for the bar fine and tell her that I will take care of the girl in the room. Sometimes that mamasan will ask the girl if she's okay to be paid by me in the room. They almost always say yes, but if they do say no, I take my money back and walk.
Not useful to me till next trip but def some good info for the other guys in here. Worldwide I always try to pay after but it never occurred to me as possible in this setting. As far as luck in the pull, we both pulled girls the first night we adored. And did pull them second night again. Third night my friend made another great pull. And my Bunny pull on night one was a homer also. So I guess we were lucky (4/5) . I am usually quite good at gauging girls but def was off with that one pull. It wasn't even so much the CBJ. Apparently the fishbowl died with COVID but the third floor models floor is going strong. Chris and I had a Gin and Tonic and checked out the lineup.
