I am quite optimistic that we will find bilingual street signs with Arabic numerals, but I know that even many Thais consider those English and might get out a machete if you try to convince them of the truth.

Of all the places in CNX to get some, those Nimma-houses are fucking low on the list.

Road signs are in ENG and THAI- CNX is one of the most touristy towns in SEA.

You may be an expert here but since I have a few days to "explore" CM--note: It'll be my 1st time here, so I figure I want to explore some options not available elsewhere. (for example-not too many know where local brothels are located in BKK). Its just my sense of being adventurous.

By all means, Let me know what ever other actions are available that you consider the "right places to visit" , I am always open to all suggestions. Admit I am a newbie here and willing to learn from all experience mongers.

Also (if you still have youth on your side), CNX is an excellent city for picking up random girls in the street or shopping centres.

picking up a girl from street / mall / non-hooker bar is very very difficult, if not impossible. the language barrier is the major hurdle, for most cm people speak zero english. so even if a girl is interested in you, there’s no way to communicate, and two people can’t just stare at each other forever.

bear in mind, any single foreign male in cm is presumably a sex tourist until proven otherwise. like it or not, that’s the locals’ view. if you were a hansuman in your country, would you consider dating an old fat thai female sex tourist?

cm women are beautiful. but, you won’t see them in pay&play places. in such places, most of the women are from chiang rai. they are short, fat, dark, buck-teethed, not at all as attractive as cm women. again, their english level is so low that they only expect you pay, play, then leave.

so what are your options?

go go bars and beer bars: ugly girls, play and pay. if you don’t like nana girls, then don’t bother.

lady houses: rep001tered across town. open early, both st and lt are available. girls look better than those in go go bars but still shitty. the biggest issue is you pay up front. once you pay, you loose power. don’t expect much and you’ll be happy.

mp: fat chicks, not worth the money.

freelancer bars: notably bubbles. most girls there are off shift bar girls, a few “regular girls” looking for farangs for whatever reasons.

karaokes: have the best looking girls in the pay&play places. unfortunately, they want to extract as many lady drinks as they can before they tell you they don’t go with customers.

there are several high class discos full of grade a babes. but, unless you are fluent in thai, young and look brat pitt, you can only watch the eye candy. mind you, these girls are from well to do families. they go to the clubs in mercedes and drop a few thousand baht a night, easily.

As I am visiting Chian Mai in december, I looked up in this forum for girl friendly hotels.

My 1st choice was the Royal Peninsula because it seems to have modern, large, confortable rooms and (quite important for me) in-room electtronic safety boxes.

I was very surprise to be annouced 400 baht as joiner fee in case the lady does not check in with me on arrival.

I (kindly) refused saying that I won't pay extra fee as there is no extra cost for the hotel if I have already paid for a double room, but I am still looking for a mid range price hotel (1000-1500 baht), good location, in-room safe and no joiner fee.

Any idea?

Yes agreed on all points.....I can only imagine Satang is a 'sad old git' or has lost the ability to 'chat-up' a girl. What he says is really not true.
Many of the girls you find out are very well educated....speak some English...and if you show some charm....are very do-able...(unless thier Virgins of course...and even then some fun can be had!)
But of course you have to do some work and might get rejected. But that is true anywhere. And if it really is a disaster you can head for Bubbles/Spicy....drown your sorrows...and then through your beer goggles you will find Miss Right!
It is a good idea if you are on the hunt to dress reasonably....ie not t-shirts, shorts and sandals (often with socks) and no 'ethnic Hippy gear either. Reasonably smart will do you lots of favours....
