Taxi is definitely easier. Most likely in the 800-1200 baht range depending on your negotiating skills and other factors.

the 800B is pretty much "unavailable" unless you can find a driver just "going back" empty - While you can get TO BKK from Pattaya for 800+ tolls, getting from BKK to Pattaya for 800 likely won't happen. See if you can find anyone else going that way and share a cab for 600 or so each (4 years ago I spent 1300B for 2 guys from Don muang - while it's "closer" to Swampy, gas prices have skyrocketed.

As much as I don't like spending extra money, give the drivers a break - they have to make a living, too.

As to the "Airport trans fact sheet" link - a couple of days ago I sent off a bit of "added info" to the admin, but I haven't heard anything back or seen any changes yet. If you move to the departure floor 4 you can catch a taxi who brings customer to the airport. Just ask them, they are normally interested too, to bring you to PTT, too. Are you sure about that? I know the tuktuk's run on propane but I've seen lot's of taxi's filling up with gas.

Like you, I was in a rush and totally jet lagged after my trip from the USA. After passing bus after bus, I thought the taxi money was well spent.
