During carnival everything is much more expensive. Hotels, apartments, etc.

Availability of paid girls outside tourist trap termas is very low (escort agencies, and many cheap brothels, massage parlors etc close for almost a week, I believe).

If you have great game, good portuguese, look great, dance good, know people you can group up with and know how to avoid trouble with drunk and jealous guys: you have a better chance then usual at scoring with normal girls.

Otherwise (I am talking against my self interest in renting rooms during peak season for twice the price), for a monger there is no reason to come during carnival or New Year's. It is just if you want to see the parades and events, not good for mongering.

If you want great carnival without the disadvantes, google "off season carnival" "micareta", carnaval fora de epoca, carnatal, carnabelem, fortal, micareta, etc.

Am I so uninformed: half of these places in my own back yard I have never heard of? 583/209? there is another place at 209? tell me more! There is a huge hooter girl at 11 floor (she has a photo ad somewhere and needs prior appointment), but a third place at 2nd floor?

583/204, 22, and the only place I know at Toneleiros belong all to the same family (brothers) and have the same pricing, except for 22 charging R$ 12 for admission for 3 drinks (R$ 20more for gringos). Brazilian prices are 20 min R$ 55 (girls are a little unhappy and they usually totally refuse such prices to gringos), 30 minuts R$ 75, 40 min R$ 95 and 1 hour R$ 125.

It is almost impossible to escape higher gringo pricing (R$ 100 and up for half hour). I keep arguing and fighting for my friends and usually get R$ 75 for half hour for them. If all fails, negotiate a longer time, but for the correct price. Like 40 minutes for R$ 100 which is just R$ 5 above regular pricing.

Never, never ever allow a tout to take you or to even accompany you to these places, or your pricing is doomed!!

583/203 has prices posted on the wall, nowadays they are covered but anyone can ask to get them uncovered. A very quiet, cleaner place with very few girls and a bit higher pricing (minimum should be a little ofer R$ 100)


Personally I never found anything really good at Toneleiros. Now there are 3 bars one next to each other? Really? how do I recgnize them? I never knew about this!

Well, for New years, all is expensive. Contact me for my place, I am one block from the beach. Make sure I can aswer you in case you have no private message privileges. As usually, I act agaist my self interest to warn that mongering possibilities are restricted during carnival and New Years.

For other options and hotels, many people have posted agencies and monger friendly hotels.

I have been to Brazil Specialist's apartment, it is a really very nice place! The balcony is really big and perfect for late night activitys. LOL! I would stay there if I didnt already have a place in rio. His personality is kinda different, but he is a nice guy.

I agree with much of this but would say come during Carnaval if you are interested in Carnaval - a bit inappropriate otherwise. But I have never found, say, VM less busy in Carnaval - sometimes the opposite.

Some have said the same about Hannibal Lecter, but I wouldn't accept his invitation to dinner.

I didn't realise that today is a national holiday until I stepped out of the door and NS Copa is almost dead. Does that mean that the Centro termas will all be shut? I guess so. Will L'uomo be open with sunday opening hours?

I fear that anywhere that is open will have a poor girl selection - a monday plus a holiday.

Does anybody have any advice?

Centro will not only be shut, it will be void of all people except the homeless and various street people, hence kind of dangerous later on.

Luomo is usually your best bet. Monte Carlo and Solarium may also possibly be open. Centaurus will definitely be shut.

Thanks for the various responses .. I did go down Centro at around 4pm. There were a few non-homeless/street people walking around but it was so quiet that you could pretty much walk down the middle of Rio Branco. I got the metro to L'uomo.

L'uomo was pretty much like any other time I had been there in the early evening, 15-20 girls, 10 or so guys. No bunda grande for me, but lots and lots of pretty spinners for those who like them slim. I went with a cute morena called Nina with nice big naturals, very carinhosa in the bar, spent about 30 minutes making out. Performance in bed was average but with no chance of any action for the next week with work, I needed to let off steam. I paid R$240 for 40 mins, entrance is halved at the moment before 7 pm (R$30 instead of R$60).

One day I'll get to session with the infamous Ingrid but I hear that she only works at the end of the week...
