I was chatting with this chick from a regional town and I raised the topic of me visiting her for a bit of entertainment. In a smaller city, even if you (or in this case, her, put yourself in her shoes) are in a place or part of town where you don't recognize anyone, its very possible that your whereabouts will be reported to your family (by someone who does recognize you) and worse, your neighbors (nay-boars). The chismosa in the neighborhood would be terrible. I say 'worse' for the neighbors because if only family discovers it, its possible the issue might be kept quiet and only your fam will roast you (her). Pero if the neighbors get a hold of it the gossip will spread like a California fire / flood / locust plague, and its possible that you (she) might not be able to go outside her own home without the snickering of everyone, and the knowledge that the neighbors might be telling everyone else they know outside the barangay.

Related story. In my youth I smoked, starting when I was 12. Thought I was being smart by hiding the cigs and only smoking by jumping on my bike and going for a ride. Would pull out the smokes about 6-8 blocks from home and have one. A client of my father (unknown to me) lived in one of those neighborhoods, and saw me ride by with a lit cig in my mouth.
