Its on the corner of Sta Monica and Mar. del Pilar...about one block north of LAC. if walking out of LAC you would take a left (against traffic if I remember) go one block and go right. It will be right after that.

This post has no relevance to any of the previous posts or indeed to this particular section of ISG, but had to do the dreaded blood test recently. Had to sign the HIV disclaimer form and agree to counselling if found to be positive.

Spent past few nights thinking about all the girls in past 18 months since last test, and theres been a lot.

Generally been playing safe but an occasional drunken bonk sans cover could have and probably did happen. And then there was that time in Jakarta. And that time and that smokin hot girl in Bangkok and that cute girl in Alabang and that high class lady from Orchard towers and and and. And you get the picture.

So with some trepidation walked into the Pathology lab place and collected the closed folder with my HIV status and other medical updates. Did the receptionist look at me with sympathy, was she staring at me, was it a cheerful smile she said goodbye to me with to soften the blow.

Got the folder and faced the dilemna of " shall I look now or later"

Now damnit. And there is big shining typed letter was NON REACTIVE I and II AB by Elosa.

Safe again!. Pheww. Been doing these tests for years now but every time I do them I end up a nervous wreck!

Ah well, now that I'm safe, I think its time to go and test the waters again!

Practically impossible to find a job of profession in the Philippines for foreigners what with that 6th something negative list passed and with only minority stakes in businesses, earning a paid income over there is for the few. Of course there's the retired on pensions, but that's decades away for me ...gotta love protectionism! :D So looks like I have to save up funds! Though there's always marriage ..0_o maybe not!

I plan on staying there for a several months to a year, and would really appreciate those residing in Manila giving me their opinion on expenses. There's a similar Q a few months back, but it's related to Cebu, which I'm certain is much different to Manila.

An idea of myself is, single, no dependents, not into barfining, just dating :D

So I guess 4 areas of expenses is where I need help:

Rent - Not a mansion, but not a hole! Somewhere decent too (still fuzzy on which part of Manila I would settle on, ideas welcome? Near where the nightlife is I suppose), looking on many sites including this one, 20,000p pm seems about right for a good apartment?

Food - I can eat local stuff and I've been to uni so I know how to eat on a budget! I can microwave really well '_^

Utilities - no idea, 10,000p pm?

Misc - cell, cable, internet, (I have my own laptop), taking girls out ..maybe 10,000p pm?


I dunno, I'm certain I'm way off for Manila, but I arrived at 50,000p pm ...as I said I would be really appreciative for any responses!

It may come as a surprise but renting a condo in Manila is cheaper than Cebu. I have lived in both cities and Manila offers greater regular dating scene...Cebu is good for bar hoping, bars girls are better in Cebu than Manila for the amount you pay....quality of bar girls in Cebu is better than Manila....i know it is different than what we expect.....but it is the reality...May be due to korean and japanese customers more in Cebu.

Nightlife is better in Cebu if you are into young crowds...However, if you are in regular dating scene..Manila would beat Cebu anyday.

You don't want to work in PH man :), I was fired from two jobs when i was in Cebu. I just couldn't keep up. If you coming to PH just come for fun sake...stay here for one year...enjoy your hearts out and go back make some money and come back again. Unless you have a freelancing internet work, where 9-5 hours is no issue...you can work from your condo in PH.

Rent >> You will get a decent 1 Bedroom Hall kitchen condo fully furnished in Mandaluyong, Pasig etc places for 10,000 pesos.

WARNING** Beware of the Nigerian scammers in craigslist, they will promise you a better 4 bedroom condo for 10,000 and ask money upfront with some excuse.....Just goto some agent or adpost or olx manils etc classified sites and let an agent show you around...you only pay for the gas if he takes you around town showing you condos...he/she will show you around town, you don't pay any fees to the agent..the owner of the condo pays half of first month rent.

Food >> Man, what can i say.....you have to get used to filippino food.....you have western, chinese, Thai, Indian food etc everywhere...just do some research...but you may have to go some places to get it...its not like everyday stuff....for fun...we all have to make some compromises :)

also, you can get a maid, some maids can cook chinese, thai and western foods who have worked in Hong kong or Singapore..they will do everything, cleaning, moping, cooking etc...just negotiate the monthly payment.

if you eat at home >>>1000 per week..if you eat out...it would be with your date..so will add it later

Utiities >>>water would be no more than 500 Pesos may be much lower, electricity is the killer...if you Use A/c and refrigerator expect to pay anywhere between 3500 to 5500 Pesos....if you do not use refrigerator the cost would come down to 2500 to 3500 >>>if you use a/c not often >>.then pay between 1500 to 2500

Misc >>>you will do lots of text message as you plan to do regular dating...i assume...everyday it would go upto 100 pesos...buy a schemes where you buy 500 to 700 pesos worth of charge which is good for 10 days etc...****research required


Cable would be 650 pesos / mnth >>>internet 4 mbps >>>>3500 2 mbps >>1500 etc so on...


Dating girls >>Contrary to what we think...girls don't cost much...i have dated many girls in manila and im yet to see a gold digger...HOWEVER....if you get close to a girl...she may ask for some money but most don't it depends upon your experience in scanning the girls.

But taking the girls out, taxi ride, beer, drinking...if we don't do that...whats the whole point right...its fun to go out with a date...expect around 1000 pesos..but when you arrive expect more than that as you will be on your toes running around with the girls :) ...slowly after few months the cost would come down.

Visa extension >>>it will also cost you a small fortune...>>every two months between 3000 to 4000 pesos...so add 2000 pesos per month for visa extension.

so we have...

10,000 rent + 4000 eat at home + 3000 utilities + Misc 6000 + 15000 Dating 10 girls/mnth plus eating outside, beer, drinks, taxi + Visa extension 2000 = 40,000 Pesos/Month...

So you are well within your monthly budget....I have put the max out on everything...after few months...you will settle down and cost will come down further....i would say....you will easily do well with 30,000 per month after first three four months period.

Yes you can purchase from pharmacy, if they ask for Doctor slip/receipt...play the dumb foreigner role...they will tell you to bring it next time..hehehe...its cool no issues....i suggest you try with cialis....less side effects

also, you can get it from the guys selling generic made in india stuff near bars for 300 to 400 pesos for four tabs i think...good stuff too...just ask around

Glad that you are safe and sound....from alternative research....its a big scam....if you don't do full anti bodies test and not take any medicine you are safe...once they confirm you have HIV and start giving you medicine..then the killer virus gets in.

Also, try to make your body as much alkaline as possible...just search in google alkaline versus acidic body ph factor. when you have alkaline body...no virus and bacteria can get into you...its only when your body becomes acidic that you are prone to a disease..its a proven fact...lots of research been done on that front.

Alkaline body is always a safe bet when you travel....just have as much vegetable food as possible. good luck

Or go to Oxford Suites, guys there are OK not fake, pay no more than 200 pesosa box or say your friends buy for 1000 pesos for 6 boxes. When you purchase open them as well make sure there is product in the box
