I was sitting in the morning outside in the Restaurant Delice in Manakara wachting the folks passing by. On two separate tables were two other Vahazas watching theirs mobiles.
All of a sudden a young guy got my attention as he several times passing by in a minute. On his turning-point he was focusing me. He came back and about six meters away from me on the street facing his back to me he pulled out a proper gun, pistol for some seconds, he turned around watching at me.
Thoughts went through my head and a shiver went down my spine. After a long minute or two play cool, I got inside and reported it to the staff. Guess what they said?
" Oh we know, that's the local idiot with his Toy gun protecting us. ".
I paid, and left, making sure he could not follow me.

I have only ended up at gun point once in my life (in El Salvador) and I was shivering for 2 hours. Of course that one was a real gun.
At LaBuse: what are the chance to see a real gun in Mada (except the police / army) ? It seems to me EXTREMELY small.

I wrote when not if. LOL. If you live there it's going to happen. There's either gangs of youths usually armed with an assortment of knives. Rest assured. They don't need guns. But that's usually after night fall in in dark corners. All three french mates I stayed in the guest house have been robbed. 9 pm. For example in front of the french cultural institute. Two of them are street smart. One carries a nunchaku and knows how to use it. The other guy scared the bad guys away with his telescopic cudgel. Again he's Krav Maga trained. The other case might be target of opportunity like it happened to a mate of mine. In broad daylight the guy pulled a knife. I figure he was just hungry. My mate gave him some change and he fucked off.
Then there's professional crime involving fire arms. People get robbed in broad daylight. But very unlikely you fall victim. People draw large amounts of cash in the banks. They just store it in their rucksack s. There was a case in the news. They shot him outright took a couple of million ariary. The guy was caught. The new hundreds of security cams paid off. Turned off it was a NCO of the army using his service pistol. Also police is happy to rent out their pistols for a robbery. Or commit robberies themselves.
The third case are the dahalo. They have makeshift firearms, stolen AK47's, Machetes, Spears. Etc. These are cattles rustlers branching out occasionally as highwaymen. Certain RNs especially south are notorious but there were also deadly roadblocks on the RN leading from Antsirabe to Morondava. Never take overnight transport. There's units of Gendarmerie armed to the teeth to hunt down these guys. But you're talking big distances. By the time they arrive the bad guys are miles away.
So enough written. To scare some people off. LOL. As I said. Avoid moving at night. Especially with all your stuff. Read french forums.

Reading some posts, years back the information was clear, do give up and it was underlined with I giant of a army guy ho got beaten up too. Therefor only carry on your body what you can afford to loose and passe it over.
Bear in mind the criminals are likely to bee professionals operating in groups. I like the normal temperament of the Gassy people but several observations including girls got me to the conclusion, if they get stressed adrenaline ist quickly boiling over and it is not a big deal they rather stab and kill you than loose face.
On the other hand, the police was never a problem to me. In old posts were several time cases reportet of paying bribes. Never happend to me, actually I often saluted them and they did so back in honor.

Most of the visitor on the Ille Rouge have been there, perhaps without knowing. Interesting history. Its on the RN2 on the way to Tamatave. This year I gave it a try fore a 5 day stop over.
The name reminds me in a way to James Bond 007 , that made me interested.
It has 60 K inhabitants, some infrastructure of interests can bee assumed. I did not get disappointed. LOL. I stayed at Bezanozano and Nadia Hotel. Never came across any Vahaza.

On my first visit I got chatted up by two girls but after the first beer I left them and sat to a young guy to have a talk. All the waitress were dressed in orange shirts and in large numbers present, 10 . All very active and attraktive too.
Result: rooms on the second floor are 4.5 K and all the waitress go for 15 K.

I arrived late night and got a nice room for cheap at the Bezanozano Hotel.
In early morning I made walk with the dog. The center ist quite compact and easy to overlook. After my return to the room I laid down again, just wearing my pants. After a minute it knocked at my door and I opened. Three mid aged room maids wer do to do the job. One cleaning the bath, one the floor and on doing the bed.
The one doing the bed I was watching closely, me still just in pants, my dog wakes up and so and cleaned off some dust on her bum, no resistance. After just minutes they left and I went to bed again- shit. Just a minute later it knocked again, I opened the door, the one ho did the bed was standing in the door, the other two down the stairs. She showed me her fresh washed hands both sides, spreading her fingers too. OK?
Come in! She closed the curtain and signalized: no noise or she gets fired. I agreed, she undressed and took a shower on the lower parts. Came back and started a BJ, after a minute or two I mounted a capote and took her from behind.

Oh oh oh. I also went to Moramanga and stayed in Bezanozano hotel. There is not much to see there. Try the Chinese restaurant opposite the Bezanozano hotel. Its in the main street / road.
I went to some bars yes but I didn't see many nice looking girls and I didn't hear anything about upstairs rooms to f. So did you try any of the girls there?

On afternoon two nice, slightly chubby girls approached me as I did my walk. The Restaurant offers good food and after three nights at Bezanozano, after my morning walk I changed to Nadia Hotel. Just because to give it a try. From the upper open floor you can watch the street live.
The staff was rather busy as I arrived, so I went out on the street were two girls caught my eye. Small talk and back to my room. On the way they were not shy at all and very talkative, to the staff to, kind of very amused. No ID by the way, nobody asked for it. One of them was a Asian looking, Merina? Type cutie the other a black Beauty.
Shower and on to the bed. The girls did not interact at all. First the Merina and after the black one in doggie, wile the other was just watching, I finished in the Merina because she kept on looking in my eyes with a open mouth. 20 K each and happy leaving. To me it was a great success, but how ever it gets doll after some days.
