I just got back from Rio this week. I was there in August and already the prices have risen yet again.
Here are the new prices for your basic 40 minute session:
Luomo: R$315
Monte Carlo: R$320
Solarium: R$350
Possible discounts for a 40 minute session:
Luomo: R$315 - R$35 = R$280 (Every day - as long as you enter before 7p)
Monte Carlo: R$320 - R$70 = R$250 (Tuesdays - coupon for discount offcabine)
Solarium: R$350 - R$40 = R$310 (Mondays - coupon for discount off cabine)
I think all these termas were R$310 in August. So Solarium had the biggest jump. It is now priced as much as what Centaurus was about 3 years ago. By the World Cup, I wouldn't be surprised to see Solarium at current Centaurus prices, which is R$450. Then Centaurus will probably around R$600.

Haven't really heard of such cases. But it is possible. In Rio, I would be very careful where I go with a taxi driver. But, a scamming taxi driver is better off picking up some tourist at the airport, with laptop, camera, and $5000 in cash and robbing him then getting $200 out of a horny tourist after girls.
In other smaller towns, taxi drivers are often the best information source. Many of them just want to make money driving you to the girls, or picking them up for taxi fare. Again, rare cases of non-pimped girls. If you define pimping as getting money from the girls. If you define pimping as introducing girls for free, well, then they are pimped. And Kid Cisco is actively preventing girls from having such an opportunity.
He is the enemy of these boards, actively preventing people from posting valuable information.

I am in Rio for a few more days - coming from Prague where there´s 50cm of snow and I like the heat. I went to Centaurus just to see what was the most expensive (and it was damned expensive ! WOW! That makes 264.216 USD for 40 mins plus drinks.
The price more than doubled in US$ in less than 5 years. And nobody I know has more money than they had a few years ago. Whatever they do over there, that economy excites me.

My first visit in 2004 it was R$ 310, exchange rate was 3.0, hence gone from $105 to $265.!

I think even the Brazilians are lately not too happy with the real being as strong as it is.
It's a number of factors beyond the greed of the terma owners: the Brazilian economy humming along while other countries struggle, internal inflation, and the aforementioned exchange rates.
With the World Cup and Olympics down the pike, even more foreign money is going to be flowing in to Rio, so unless there's somehow a brazilian economic f***up or financial crisis, it could get worse. I don't like to wish ill things on others but I think that's what's going to need to happen to stop this trend.

When you say that the Monte Carlo/Luomo/Solarium prices are for a 40 minute session, does that include entrance or is that another R$50-60 on top of that? I thought Brazil was past the days of hyperinflation. ;)

1. Just bring what you need to the beach. If you go for a swim leave your camera/money with a buddy or with the barraca owner if you know him. Otherwise tie your bag around your beach-chair or up in your parasol.
2. Your choice. Hotel, apartment or motel.
3. Most propably, if not you go up to her.
4. The main locations are those two. In front of Othon Palace the selection is better. Better, but still not very good if you compare how it used to be.
I like to pick up GPs on the beach. The bikini shows the body and you avoid surprises. You can have a good deal if you take her for 1-2 hours, specially if you live close by.
