Policia stop after Pepe's Parking
Same here. After Hong Kong, I went to Pepe's parking to get my car. The parking attendant took a long time to get to the booth to get my HK parking validation, but I tipped him anyway. Made a right turn at the corner by La Perla then a left at the next corner to head back to the border when I got lit up by the Policia. They wanted to know what my job was, had I been drinking - (Told him only Mineral Water with Lemon when I do not have a hotel room for the night) Agua Mineral con gas why limon, then had me step out of the car and walk around and had me take out my wallet and show my driver's license then searched my pockets. Asked how many cylinders my car had, when I bought it and for how much. I told him it is my old work truck, which I think helped avoid a mordida request. I told them I had not had a single cerveza that day and they could smell my breath if they wanted to, so they then let me go. I got the feeling the policia pay referrals to the parking attendants for cell phone tips as to who they think is drinking and when they are leaving the parking lot. My advice is, if you are going to drink at HK, get a room so you do not drive that night. Otherwise, order Agua Mineral con gas why limon or a cola so the policia cannot shake you down for DUI. No beer breath.
Feedback to HK's management.
Taxis jacking up rates, aggressive beggars intimidating, swearing at guests can all be bad for HK's reputation and business. If HK's management is smart and have a few little balls, they should take charge of that situation and fix all problems legally and fairly to maximize satisfaction to everyone.
My own experiences in the past proved that HK's management does want its clients treated fairly and professionally. HK's management and its staff, including the chicas, do follow comments posted or sent to them, and do act quickly to fix problems. You should give them your feedback with specific complaints, including as much facts as you have, and ask for specific corrections. Don't leave it up to them to guess, investigate and figure out the best solutions. They are not smart and too busy to do all of those. Spell them all out in details and ask for specifics.
HK has to prevent rogue cabbies, aggressive beggars, gangs and thieves in and around its facilities to victimize its clients. HK should give stern warnings to potential violators, and when applicable, call in policias to hold them responsible for their crimes.
BTW, this suggestion applies to all bars and businesses in Mexico and anywhere in the world.
I encountered similar experiences (although not as aggressive as yours) almost every time I got a cab directly in front of HK. A couple times they jacked up the price a little bit,
They are swearing at me and trying to break me down but I stood my ground. What are they going to do, assault me right in front of HK in the middle of the day while the bouncers witness the entire event? I wouldn't think that's good for business. After damn near 5 minutes of this I told the cabbie, Mira, no propina para tu amigo. Si no vamos ahora no propina para tu why yo busco un otro taxi (Look, no tip for your buddy. If we don't leave now, no tip for you and I'll get another cab). That worked and we finally left.
I don't mind tipping for an honest service like a cab ride, shoe shine, or BJ in the lap dance booth, haha. I don't look for any trouble when I'm traveling or at home for that matter, but I try my best to not reward weasly con jobs either. I found that the farther away from HK I got cabs, the more honest they were.
