Muslm families near Sukhumvit road
Because of lots of muslim rastaurants Arabs, Indian & Pakistanies, serving Halal foods, that's why you see many muslim families in this area for food.

Certain times of the year the weather in Golf countries becomes extremely hot and dry and traditionally well-to-do families would take an extended vacation and would take the entire family and would go overseas. 10-15 years ago, when I used to work in that part of the world, the popular destinations were western countries, however, with the world situation as is and restrictions on who enters western countries, now a days popular destinations are southeast Asia countries such as Malaysia and Thailand. These places provide a cheaper alternative for a extended stay as well as good medical facilities that provide health checkups and possible treatment at a fraction of the cost if it was done in the US or England.
So why do they stay around Nana? One is its close proximity to many Arab embassies in sukhumvit. Second is the big medical facility in that area which caters to "health tourism". And there are many restaurants and businesses that do cater to Muslim/Arab tourists. They mostly started there after this area became popular with these families.

But, that's my main point in Shanghai vs. BKK. In Shaghai you are more likely to get touted/scammed over a mongering issue (and sometimes fake watches) vs. In BKK if you are a reasonably sound of mind person and RTFF you can monger without the hassle of getting scammed or feeling short changed. (not true for some other areas of China which are safer). In China generally if you want top tier performance and no hassles (LE raids, touts, dark alleys etc.) you will have to go to a higher end sauna.
I've personally never tried the famous Shanghai Hotel Sauna. Something I have to makeup on my next trip. Those upscale massages can be great, especially combined with full service. Though so can an oily/soapy in BKK, the cost is about the same. Though my own POV on that issue is that in China at the upscale places they generally have top tier girls and performers, in BKK you could hit or miss.

You can get washed, a little rimming, a knobber where they put the bag on then a nice boning followed by a good straight up massage w/ $60 for the house and $100 for a nice looking Korean or SE Asian girl at most massage parlours in the Eastern Seaboard.
