Lunch in Patong
Now here's a request for all you expat mongers living in Phuket, I'm thinking you TGT and others. My sometimes annual R & R in Patong is coming up in November and I rather enjoy those Vietnamese Banh Mi rolls for lunch. Does anyone know of a source of these in Patong? A strange request, but then I'm a strange person.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

By go to place is called the Filling Station in Soi Taed aka Soi Muay Thai in Chalong.
Acceptable pho and fresh spring rolls amongst quite a large Vietnamese food selection.
Searched google and it put up Sanny Vietnamese Sandwich in Patong.
Looks worthy of a try based on photos.
Sawatdirak Rd, Pa Tong, Kathu District, Phuket 83150, Thailand.
This is one street north of Bangla Road on the beach end.
No other ones in Patong look OK to me.

Rawai bar scene
So I love the Rawai area. Super chill. You don't have someone trying to sell you a taxi ride or Viagra every 10 steps. As far as bars, there are 2 general areas if you are looking for companions. 1-Road 4024 which turns into 4030 along Rawai beach. 2-Soi Sai Yuan after you make the sharp right turn. It's only 5-10 minutes to get from the beach area to sai yuan. There are literally dozens of bars in each area. Beer is generally 80-140 baht. Bar fines are as low as 100 baht to 500 baht. If you don't have a room, the closest to the beach is Rawai condotel. 500 baht with a 300 deposit. It is not the cleanest, so I would not do that. On Sai Yuan, closest is Sau Yuan Residence. I made a post about that in the hotels forum. Some bars have rooms there. Just ask. Most were 500 baht for that. The ladies were not too aggressive, except the lady boys were aggressive. There are lots of bars with no ladies, if you just want to get a drink.

Rawai TF
I found it annoying. Long time to get a response from many, if any response at all. I did not want to drive far, so I limited to just 4 km from me, still 100 women. One actually hosted me at her home, which was a surprise. She asked 1500. Blond, big fake boobs, spinner. Asked me to bring the condom, which I didn't like, but its better than none! She was early 30's, small frame, very shapely. Good English. Almost all Immediately wanted to move conversation to line, which was fine for me. One other part I don't like about TF, there are some gals on there that aren't working. I hate the idea that I could send a monger request to one of them. Oh, also had a ton of ladies from all over reach out. No, I do not want to talk to you in Cambodia. Though she was super hot, I'm not flying to other country.

Banh Mi
Thanks for that TGT, I just had a look on googly maps and it would seem to exactly what I'm looking for. Getting rather excited about this trjp now. Bit of back ground info. Last year did this trip, stayed 3 nights Karon beach and 3 nights Patong. Karon is nice but pretty quiet then when I got to Patong the noise and bustle of the place was a bit overwhelming initially though soon got used to it. Decided this year just do Patong, more places to eat more action more banh mi. And 3 days isn't enough time to you pack and settle in, so doing 6 days in Patong, I checked out those areas down south Rawai etc but since I live in a little quiet town figured I didn't realy want to holiday in one, bright lights for me!
Cheers all.

I tried it, and found it works.
TF for me tho doesn't quite match my needs as a resident punter here.

As to Sai Yuan Residence, are you saying it is a short time hotel as well, as I didn't know that? How much do they charge?
And yes, a number of massage girls live there, one of my favorites from Oily Massage nearby does. LOL.
One correction for you, nearly all stand alone bars on Soi Saiyuan have room (s) on premises for short time.
It is only the beer bar complexes, like Laguna, Gilbis, Banana and Bank Bar that appear that they don't, but all of the girls in those know of local ST rooms they can use.
In fact, Gilbis has two ST rooms next to toilets, but the girls are often too shy to use them, the same with Banana that has a ST room available in the hotel upstairs.
For instance, Bank Bar girls will take you ST to the ladyboy massage shop across the road.

Perhaps a day and evening visit to Rawai purely for educational and enjoyment purposes might be in order.

RE: Banh Mi
I rather enjoy those Vietnamese Banh Mi rolls for lunch.
I love most all sandwiches, but I don't get what's so great about a Banh Mi other than Southeast Asia not being really big on bread. I was underwhelmed when I finally had one a few months back. I'd definitely be more excited for a good Cuban sandwich.

If you tried a banh mi and didn't like it, then it could be the light baguette bread, or the fresh crisp taste of the ingredients added to the meat / seafood selection, that didn't hit your tastebuds.
It's good that we are all different like that with our tastes.
Personally I hate a cuban sandwich, way too heavy for me, same as many "philly" styles are, and bagels, ummm, that's a quick no thank you.
On the flip side tho, I love the heavy feel and taste of sour dough bread.

Banh Mi blues
Yes different strokes for different folks comes ro mind for food. I like the crunchy fresh roll that kind of explodes when you bite into a banh mi. Though they're a mongrel eating in a car. Haven't spent much time in Cuba but the food never realy impressed though the rum and cigars are excellent.
And yes TGT I will check out Rawai properly when I'm in Patong, I'll have the time. I'll pester you for details closer to the time.

Floods in Phuket
What's the situation like in Patong regarding the recent flooding? Am due to go there on the 27/9 and was wondering if many places would be closed?

Suring options in Phuket
Hi everyone, particularly to TGT a major contributor to this thread. I have been going through the thread in preparation of my upcoming trip to Phuket.
I had a question. Where would be a good place to try surfing. My partner on the trip wants to try out. I personally am interested in trying diving. TGT if you can give a head up on how to find you, might just try it with you if you're available.
Thanks in advance.

Floods
What's the situation like in Patong regarding the recent flooding? Am due to go there on the 27/9 and was wondering if many places would be closed?
Flooding is always short term, the waters recede within hours.
Then they have to do cleanup and sometimes like the latest ones, road repairs.
Business are rarely affected such that they have to close.
At the moment everything is back up and running.
