What you should have said was that for you El Poblado is the best.

For people willing to step out of the El Poblado cocoon, there is a great deal more to experience in Medellin.

The best burgers (according to the last competition I saw results for) are in Envigado. The best love motel is in Itagui. The best clothes shopping and furniture shopping is also in Itagui, except for mattresses. You should go to Laureles for that, where you can watch them being handmade. The best place to walk (a form of exercise many of us enjoy) is debatable, except it's definitely not El Poblado.

I enjoy luxury. I also enjoy a bargain. For 250 k per night, under $60, I can get a hotel, not in El Poblado, which matches or exceeds almost any $200-$300 hotel in Medellin. As a bonus, it's a short walk to the best mall in Medellin, easily accessible to the metro, is extremely quiet and has a wonderful staff.

I love good food. Provenza is great when you want to celebrate and don't care about the cost. However, there are many little hole in the wall places, with fantastic food at a price which is ridiculously low. Laureles is full of them, but they can be found all over the city.

There's a lot more to the world once you step outside of your comfort zone.

No. But there is an amazing amount of wisdom encapsulated in his response. Speaking from experience.

1 restaurant worker, 3 maids, 1 nurse, 1 office worker and I have several more numbers I haven't completely explored yet. Oh and I'm in my 60's and although not gross looking, no one mistakes me for Robert Redford either. Age has no significance in the equation.

Just remember this. Which is the essence of Ostee's wisdom. Many working women are earning minimum wage (or there about). Sex is nothing to them, they have been having sex since they were barely teenagers. Money is rare. Very few of their friends or acquaintances have any to spare. So in their mind they are trading something of NO value for something that is rare.

In my observation, most people do not venture much outside their comfort zone, if at all. They stay deeply entrenched in their comfort zone or the "box" they constructed for themselves in which to live.

I'd second the comment on the ground game. It's shooting fish in a barrel in Colombia. One of my first pieces of business last trip was getting a simcard at tigo in Unicentro Mall. Long story short the blue eyed German looking tigo rep from Bogota ended up coming on to me and giving me her number. I ended up deciding not to go out with her as she was too old (32 yikes) and seemed too needy (she saw me walking to the Exito in the mall and asked why I didn't stop at her store to say Hi in a message). I've definitely gotten interested vibes interacting with women working in multiple settings. Another funny one was the airline rep checking me in at Rio Negro when I was leaving in March. Should have gotten her number for the next trip. I think if you are half decent looking and just sit outside at a table in Medellin you'll end up with options. But of course being proactive is always best and good Spanish makes a world of difference. I'm definitely thinking of more actively pursuing the ground game next time I come especially if its for a longer time.
