Well I'm not a terma guy. I'm a huge beach and Help nut. To say that the news that it will actually close is devastating. I also am planning to be there for the last day. Has anyone noticed how cheap the flights are for April and May?

Well if last night was my last night ever in Help I will say I went out with a great big thud. Maybe I jinxed myself by saying yesterday I haden't had a bad session out of 14 on this trip, but all that came to an end with a Help girl last night. Her name is Paola and she is from Porte Alegre. She is an absolute stunner. I had met her and her friend on the stage the first night I was in Help and they were both drinking champagne with us. When we got down to negotiations, she wanted 500 reals for the night and I told her she was crazy. So they left unhappy that i didn't take the bait. Well, last night I broke about 4 rules of mongering. I saw her again and she smiled and was very friendly so I brought her up on the stage. I was with some guys that lurk on this board behind the scenes and i'm sure they will be reading this. We got to talking and she was still firm with her 500 Real offer. Since I had about 1000 Reals left and I'm leaving tonight, I said what the fuck and went for it. I know 500 is totally retarded but if the performance matched the looks it would have been a memorable night. We got back to my apartment and she went to shower. Her big fake rack was bouncing around all over the place. Here was the next mistake. She asked for the money upfront. Sort of. She counted 500 and just layed it on the nightstand. So from that she proceded to give me a CBJ, which I haven't had once the entire trip and the sex was average at best. Sadly I had already popped once at 4x4 earlier in the night and couldn't even finish. Finally, I just gave up and went to bed. We woke up at abut 10 am and started to go at it once more but she just did not do it for me at all. My first instincts on the first night were right. What a waste of God given talent she is. LOL.
Oh well, I have 7 hours left and I'm not going out of Rio on that note. I'm going back to NS Copa 583 in a bit and I'm going to take my bad night out on Camille who I had a great time with on Wed. On a seperate note, I spoke with the head waiter last night and he said as of now Help will close in 2 months however, he said like everything else in Rio that can change. If there's enough bribery then it's possible Help could remain open. Here's a staggering figure for you. Between Help Night Club, Terraco Atlantico, and the cover charge, the building does aproximate $30 million US dollars a year in sales. That means by US standards the building and the business is worth about $60 to $80 million, not the $13 million the goverment is paying. I'd be pretty pissed if that was my club.
Man if these reports are true I am glad I got to see Help before it closed. I hope this is not the case.
This is a huge generalization but was curious if you guys thought girls with fake breasts tend to be bad performers. I dont like them so I just generally avoid them. I just noticed at the Termas some of the ones that had fakes were more pushy etc. Dont know I am sure there are exceptions just was curious what you guys thought.
I'm sure alot of people are not going to cry over the closing of Help. I for noe, liked Help. Yes there was some dogs, and a lot of the girls tried to over-charge you, but I still thought it was a good value option given that: you could dance and flight of a couple of hours ($28r + drinks); see about 200+ girls a night, and then take one home if you wish. To me, this was a good way to spend 2 night on a 5 night trip.
My feeling is that a lot of the girls will have to find other work because they will not be/won't work at the other venues (Prado Junior, Termas, VM, BA 85, etc.) because they have been too spoiled by Help newbie. Also, there lifestyle is going to have to change. No more sleeping all day, shopping all evening, and drinking all night - if you don't have the income to support it.
I think the good news in that price WILL go down, and service will go up. Or, the girls are going to be willing to do A LOT more for the same money they used to charge. " you want $200r, well you have to spend the entire day with me, and I'll fuck you as much as I want". "Sim".
My only other refrenece for something like this is the Domincan Republic when al lot to the disco's in Sosua closed: the sence becamce "much" smaller and there was A LOT more compeition amoust the girls. Plus their attitutes got a whole lot better. Prices didn't necessary drop, but you got more for the same prices.
All in ALL, I'm sad to see the place go, but life goes on and some other place; or some other country will take up the slack.

Don't count these girls out yet.
Even if Help does close don't expect these girls to give up so easily. They’ll find other venues.
Most of you have probably only been to Rio while Help has been open.
From 1980 to 1987 I went to Rio 35 times and only stepped foot in Help twice after it opened in about 1985. The putas had not taken over yet so it was just a regular disco like Nuth.
So where were the Putas in Copacabana to be found? Well in every Cafe along Ave. Atlantica. When I stayed in the Rio Palace hotel (Sofitel) the cafe next door (Pigalle) was packed every night with putas much like Terraco Atlantica is today. When I stayed in the Hotel California the cafe next door (Le Maison) was packed every night with putas much like Terraco Atlantica is today. Mabs was packed every night with quality Putas, so was Meia Pataca and every other cafe along the avenue.
I used to go to a place called Club Erotika but it was on Princess Isabel Blvd, rather large and good quality every night.
If they don't take over Bingo Arpoador then all of the girls will spill over onto the street and the better ones will find a home in the Boates near Princess Isabell like Barbarellas and Franks.
It seems true if my contact in Brazil emails the same information.
Maybe this will make the Copa garotas give more for less?
Help has now been officially expropriated. The owners and operators have 60 days to leave the building. Terraca Atlantica is also affected. The owners will get $13 milllion USD...
I might be mistaken but I think the 13 millions are only a first payment, deposit. Not the final price.

The closing of help doesn't make sense to me from a financial prespective. You are going to close an establishement that you get the tax off of $30mil usd/year to open a museam that your will make , probably less than half that a year?
I say that in the end, Help Will stay open, but the new owers of the establishment will be the Brazilian government. Maybe the current owners will have to "lease-back" the space from them.
This is a money play by the governement as I see it. Anyone with more knowledge/experience care to weight-in?
Funny, I just stopped by terraco Atlantico and I was talking to one of the head waiters. He said no chance Help will close. He says we go through this every year and every year we pay the government more money. After seeing this year after year I tend to believe him. Don't have time to report now as I am leaving fr the airport, but I finished up the trip with a triple header at NS Copa 583. Will report and post photos when I'm back stateside tomorrow. Parting is such sweet sorrow. Tchau!!!

Dwilso39, Are you sure you didnt wire tap my phone? LOL!! I had the same exact conversation with my cousin about 2 hours ago. Why on earth would the brazilian government close a business that generates millions each year in taxes?!! That makes no sense.
Only thing I disagree with you on, is the potential income of the new museum. What museum makes 15 million a year? Especially a museum in Rio!! They will probably make more like 1 million a year, if that!!
Do the owners not have any more legal options? When reading this article, I couldn’t help but think of a certain episode of The Simpsons. It was set in the future and the sign out front of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant said "Still operating thanks to the lengthy appeals process." From what I hear about the Brazilian legal system, it wouldn't surprise me to see such a sign somewhere in Help in the near future.
It's Official, Oglobo is reporting the same:
Help has now been officially expropriated. The owners and operators have 60 days to leave the building. Terraca Atlantica is also affected. The owners will get $13 milllion USD.
"RIO - A judge of the 9th Vara de Fazenda Pública accepted the request for expropriation of the property's of nightclub Help in Copacabana, and ruled on Monday that it be vacated in 60 days. The government has already deposited in the state court U.S. $ 13 million, a figure initially stipulated for the purchase of an area of 1600 square meters, which will be in, 2011 the new headquarters of the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS). The construction will start in November.
The court process began last year when the governor, Sérgio Cabral, signed a decree making it a public utility, for expropriating the land where the nightclub and restaurants: Sobre as Ondas and Terrace Atlantic are located. According to the Attorney General of the State, the owners of the property can still use the amount to be paid by the government for the land, but the decision on the expropriation of the property is final.
The land - on Rua Djalma Ulrich 4, corner of Avenida Atlantica 3432 - is part of an estate, but is rented to a group of entrepreneurs who run Help and the restaurants. Contacted by Globo, the administrators of the club have not been found to comment on the case, nor to provide the lawyers phone numbers".

Maybe in Centro, a "Museum of Light and Sound" would work better but on Atlantica, I would tend to think the visitor numbers would trend low so the entrada revenues might just barely cover the operating costs, not to mention the initial capital investment. Who's going to want to spend time inside a museum when the beach is just a few steps away? I figure a carioca would rather perfect his/her tan or play sports, and the tourists want to chill out and people-watch on a world-famous beach.
If it does actually go through, it's only because the city authorities were dead set on getting rid of the "social blight" that Help supposedly is. Not just the putas but the favelados who prey on the easy-target mongers.

I guess I was just worried that the freelance nighttime scene would be in limbo around late May which is the time I'm going. Sounds like the GdPs will just spread out to the other cafes on the main avenue and maybe some side streets as well? Anyway, whatever happens, I will definitely prepare more for this second trip to not rely on just termas and Help. I can wait to nearly the last second to cancel my trip; I'll just keep reading the updates here and make a final decision a few days before. Would rather pay the fees to redeposit the miles and cancel the apartment reservation, then spend thousands more on a mediocre trip. Anyway, if the economy hits me between the eyes, none of these questions will matter anymore, so I guess I'll just stay "on standby" until mid-May.
I think the biggest draw back to Help closing, is that it will be extremely difficult to locate the new girls now. I know over the years, I have been fortunate to catch many girls on their first week in Help (A few of times, I got girls on their very first night in Help, brand new to the business). New working girls tend to stand out inside of Help, just as much as new tourists.
Now if the girls are forced to be spread all over Copa, your chances of catching a new girl are slim and none.
Don´t cry. Help closing it´s not a loss.
I have never seen so low quality at Help as these days.
It´s almost like VM quality. The only difference is that the Help girls dress nicer, have an awful attitude and charge absurd money.
Let those overweighted, lazy and spoiled Help-girls start doing some hard honest work at VM or in a R$ 1/minute casa in centro. :D
I would agree... They need to get those spoiled girls to realize that they need to perform as if it was their last Real... I guess this means more tourist in VM or Centro...
