Can anyone suggest the best way to rent an apartment in Asuncion for one month, in late July and early August? In the past I have been well-served by the recommendations on Argentinaprivate. Com for rentals in BA, but a look through this forum reveals no comparable recommendations for Asuncion (and I apologize in advance if the recommendations are there and I just have been too stupid to find them).
I am an experienced old monger who has made more than 20 trips to Latin America but never to Paraguay. I do remember some Paraguayan beauties working in Buenos Aires, and I would like more of that. I want an apartment that is located near the downtown privados. I like to take a late morning walk to experience a beautiful young woman or two or sometimes three if I got a good night's sleep. Sometimes it is nice to ask one of those young ladies to my apartment for dinner and sex, so I don't want the doorman or the ladies in the elevator to be giving me dirty looks.
I like unpretentious yet reasonably classy, sturdy old buildings, natural light, a stove and frig, plants, quiet, and perhaps a balcony.
I am a NorteAmericano looking through the tropics for a place to spend the winter months when I retire (in a couple years or so) , and I just might enjoy the January sauna people write about. I can make myself understood in Spanish, but my diction is ugly. Espanol is something I want to work on this summer along with some writing and lots and lots of beautiful women, the sources of life-long obsessions.
Info about apartment rental is most important, but any info about car rental, Spanish tutors, and exercise clubs would also be appreciated.
May I find some way to repay you for your kindness.

You will find some furnished rentals there. In the past I have seen some advertised for tourists, but it was rare and expensive.
I will look into it more when I'm there in May.
HGL,
Thanks sincerely for checking on this.
I did find an rental agency advertising on www.clasipar.com.py (your suggestion) , but oddly they do not supply an email address. I guess I will call them and try out my elementary Espanol.
I wonder if any hotels have a stove I can use. If I stay somewhere for more than 5 days, I have to be able to cook food in the way that I like it.

Hey RiverM,
I think an "apart hotel" might have a stove. I found one in Clasipar which was mentioned by another member in Argentina Private under the Paraguay thread:

Let us know what you discover.

suerte-hgl.
i stayed there for one month. the apartment is right on the street side, so it will be fairly noisy by day. but for mongering, this is a perfect place since this is fairly centrally located and unlike an hotel, nobody will check who gets in your room.
the montly price for a very large room with fridge, high speed internet, tv and private bath was 1350000 guaranis, which at current rate is 350 usd. for the apartment with a small kitchen, this would be 1500000 guaranis, over 400 usd.
the owners are french and they have a restaurant called "le saint tropez" two blocks away from the house, and their salads are excellent and resonably priced (4 usd).
for your information, the dollar lost 25% within a few month. it was above 5,000 in october, it s now under 4, 000 (3, 890 today but lower with exchange commissions) , reflecting current administration paper printing. the only way for those countries to avoid destructive inflation is to let the usd sink.
Gentlemen!
This is a 2011 Newbee guide to Asuncion.
I hope it will be helpfull and bring you good memories back from your travel.
The photos attached is to be used together with the guide.
Best regards,
Ken Apples.
Many thanks for the excellent guide. I was just looking for new mongering destinations and will definitely put Asuncion on my list.
Aside from mongering, is there anything of touristic interest in the city proper? Is it a pleasant enough place to spend a few days?
There are some Museums and the current Precidential palace is beautiful. You also have some small parks and statues, but in all fairness. 1 day and you would cover them all, so Asuncion is above all about the girls.
Best thing to do is to spread your cultural activities as a thin layer upon your more carnal activities, and then you can enjoy yourself for the 5-7 days.
Good luck,
Ken Apples
I was in Asc at the same time as ken, sadly events conspired to stop us from meeting. He has a keen eye for detail and by the sound of it, had a blast. I was encumbered by my rental guide and thus I sort of brought sand to the beach.
Nevertheless, I'd caution anyone going in any month but June / July that it's a sweaty hole. If you are over the age when 3 pops a day are possible, you'll spend most of your time in your air conditioned hotel room. I have to say, this is one of the safest capital cities I've mongered in though and I do plan to return.
Back to Ken's report and the other interesting things about Asc,"but in all fairness. 1 day and you would cover them all, so Asuncion is above all about the girls.". That pretty much sums it up.
Bring Neosporin and Cortisone for the skeeter bites, they are a beeotch.
Great report and guide by the way, all sorts of stuff I never got to.

As far as Travellers Guide are concerned, according to me there is only one in English: BRADT GUIDE "PARAGUAY"
In it you have all the historical and art background very useful.
For example, MUSEO DEL BARRO in ASUNCION is absolutely a must for popular religious art in a modern museum as well as primitive art. For primitive art MUSEO BOGGIANI in SAN LORENZO where you can also buy indian crafts is also remarkable. I spent 3 weeks (with only one shot a day as I am not so young) and enjoyed really the place!
Anybody knows if there are this drugs in stores the original version and the prices if is better than Argentina.
