Baht or Bath? I have seen that word for Thai currency spelled both ways by Thai prople because whether it is spelled baht or bath in English Thai people say it the same way, as a sole T sound. Thailand? Thai? None that I can recall. It was predicted, I think accurately, that some new club called Myth would eventually be referred to by the girls as Mit or Mid, wasn't it?

I am not even sure the Th sound as in Thermos exists in the Thai language. I don't recall hearing it much at least.

I have only heard a couple of westerners referring to Thermae as one pronounces the Th in Thermos. And I think both of them also insist on calling PATtaYA as pTAIya with the accent on the second syllable. LOL.

Fun conversation to discuss LOL. Didn't even konw Thermae is a real word and apparently google proper pronunciation is Thur.-mee (american) thuh-mee (british), I always pronounced it Thur.-may. I guess would make sense to pronounce it the way Thais pronounce it if you're talking to them but among my fellow americans I'd still pronounce it my way even tho its off a little from googles proper way hah. How many of you guys actually knew its as real word?

Not even sure why you quoted me cause where did I say Thai pronounce Thermae like thermos? I'm sure you speak Thai like I do and you know there is no "th" sound in the Thai language. A Thai would say it with a "t" (combined with 'd') sound like they do with Thailand (this is what I said). I was saying guys (Farang) pronounce it with a "th" sound same as you have confirmed.

Also no "V" in Thai alphabet so Villa Market is Willa Market. Also T and D is interchangeable in several words. Nitnoi Nidnoi same same. Chitlom Chidlom same same.

Hi all.

Bit of left field question, flying into / out of BKK has anyone ever had their carry on bag / case weighted or scrutinized for being overweight? It's just I was surprised when booking my latest flight that most popular airlines like Emirates, Thai airways, airAsia etc only give a 7 kg carry on allowance! It seems quite stingy. My well travelled "cabin size" small case is always thought of as a 10 kg case and whenever I have checked that it was always around 9-11 kg in weight.

I usually check a bag but after my two last trips to BKK (first I missed a connection because of bags not being properly checked through, then the following trip they lost a case on me) so I want / need to keep my stuff close to me as I also have a very tight transit stopover on the way in. Don't want to miss the flight for any reason and miss the fun of the day in BKK!

[/QUOTE]They all say 7 kg but any non budget airline like JAL, ANA, EVA, Cathay won't follow those rules. Air Asia is the only budget airline I've ever flown and they are extremely picky. They are out to seek extra money for checked baggage. Flew Thai Airways twice in 2024 and no sign of weighing any luggage. My backpack and carry on must have weighed over 15 kg.

Do what everyone else does. Wear a jacket and put everything heavy in your pant and jacket pockets.

Can't afford for any more delays at the gate and having to check the bag into the hold or I'll definitely miss the connection.

Yeah. Not only will be wearing the jacket, but also the full business suit, two pairs of socks, jocks and shorts under the pants and god knows what else haha!

Just flew airAsia from Osaka to Bangkok. Paid an extra 1100 Bhat to up my carryon weight from 7 kg to 14 kg. They did check the weight of my carry-on roller bag but didn't weigh my back which is nearly the size and weight of my roller bag. And I had a sling they didn't count.

Another trick people do when they have lots of carry on is they have one of those large shopping bags and load it up with stuff. Most airlines won't weigh those or even count them as a carry on. As Global wrote some times you get lucky and Air Asia doesn't weigh all your bags. Possibly cause he paid 1100 baht for over weight carry on already.
