On the supply chain issues, though, that mess is all political, and all the blame should be directed at the Dems. First off, Obama put into law regulations that were passed like 8 years ago but are just enforced today. One of them is that truck drivers can only work 8 hour shifts, and this is sent from trucks via computer to a regulatory agency. So when you have a supply chain crisis and want to move goods: wouldn't it be smart to change that to 10 or 12 hours (which it used to be)? You would think so right? Nothing on this.

The issue in the ports are the trailers that move around the supply containers. The cranes pick up the containers off the ships, but the trailers are what move them around. Obama put in a law that trailers, even ones that were still good, could not be more than 5 years old. The problem is the pandemic interfered with production of trailers, so a lot would put out to pasture while fewer were coming in. Again, there is a pretty simple solution. Allow the older trailers to be inspected for safety and used right? Again, that is not being done.

Domestic trailer production also plummeted due to the end of Trumps tariff on Chinese trailers. Yeah, Biden just got rid of that Trump tax. It seems like a no-brainer to reinstate that tariff but that is not happening either. China is refusing to produce more trailers, and this is China fucking the USA again, and time after time, our government is unable to pivot away because we are so dependent on them.

What was done was a reshuffling the numbers. Now a ship that is further off the coast is not counted. Keep in mind there are thousands of containers on these ships. With 100 ships at 10,000 containers apiece, you are talking about one million containers at sea. That is a staggering number and it is getting worse. A million containers need to be unloaded and put onto trucks and rail. One million!

I was listing to a podcast about where there are supply issues: tennis balls, tires, and cream cheese. The other surprising one is paper. Eih touched on this and said Trump had problems selling a book because of his creating a paper shortage. Of course, that is not true.

This one is funny too. The USA is a next exporter of lumbar so how come we have a paper shortage. The environmentalist whackos have made paper production so cost prohibitive it was cheaper to move production abroad. So again, the solution is to roll things back to where there were no shortages but again for some reason this cannot be done.

For example if you pick just one while ignoring the others, and beat that drum loud enough then voila! You have an argument, or at least a talking point. But even that doesn't tell us the sorts of jobs created under Carter. How do the numbers hash out when it comes to pay? How many part time? And if there was a recession you can just blame it on the previous guy by focusing on the negative bullet points on his economic resume. This is why so many political arguments involve talking past one another.

Also, what about "Lincoln's Civil War?" Arguably he provoked the armed conflict with his refusal to abandon Ft Sumter, even though the north had withdrawn from other southern forts. Readings of the letters home of southern soldiers reveals more of a local mindset, that they were fighting to repell an invasion with little mention of slavery. Only 25% of southern families owned slaves. Though the slavery question was the clear reason for succession as seen in the minutes of a number of state governments, so any claims that the war wasn't over that are absurd.

There were firebrands on both sides leading up to succession, as well as Constitutional questions on the legality thereof, especially considering that not one southern state supported the election of Lincoln. But since your Republican disasters go all the way back to Lincoln, tell us why you think he was responsible for the war. Should the north have just let the south go?

Hell, I was a lazy Bothsider in those days and voted for Reagan in 1980 on the assumption that, good economy or horrific economy, I guess it's just the luck of the draw, economic cycles, whatever, it really doesn't matter which party is in control and I applied all those nuanced excuses and allowances you mentioned to my unfortunate decision.

And the fact that no Repub has proposed, passed or presided over legislation that has produced any of the various record high boom times and historic jobs creation of the past 100 years or so further drives home the by now blatantly obvious reality that we are dealing with a 100 years long pattern that defies all possible nuance, benefit of the doubt or Bothsidersim excuses:

When Dems get their way, America wins in terms of, among other positive things, historic economic expansion, growth and record high jobs creation.

By stark contrast, when Repubs get their way, America loses in terms of severe economic downturns, Great Depressions or Great Recessions and massive jobs destruction.

I appreciate the effort to suggest there might be some interesting nuances that we ought to factor in here and there. But I submit there is no one nuance or a thousand that could possibly alter that unchangeable and iron clad above stated pattern in the past, present or future.
