Never ever accept. A drink that was not opened in front of you! Do not be shy / foolish, they know better, it is not culture but scam.

This is one of those situations where what you're doing isn't that bad in the US and not in Mexico either but if you got caught you're pretty much screwed and will have to cough up whatever they think you can afford. I got wasted and pissed on the side of the road in Rosarito but knew it was a dumb move. I don't know that any guy could say no to what you did though but it's still good to realize the possible outcome.

The zona was "dead" tonight (pun intended). Instead there were families with kids trick or treating all over the place. Who the hell brings their kids to a red light district to trick or treat ? Crazy.

This is one night you may be better off in NYC.

It is funny that you mentioned the kids in the Zona on Halloween, I posted this last year when I was there.

"Got into the Zona around 7pm and was kind of surprised by just how many children were trick-or-treating on the streets, and even in the alley; not quite sure where or whom they were getting the candy from. I dressed up as a "Horny Gringo."

However, I did have a great time in HK that night. I had my camera and was taking pictures like a freaken tourist!

Sorry, I can't agree with the,"This is one night you may be better off in NYC." comment. I will take the Zona over NYC and day of the year, including NYE, which I plan to spend in the Zona.

It had been about 2 years since I had been in Tijuana. Less hassale than before. No real haggling with the taxi drivers. Just wanted $5 from border to Hong Kong and the same from Hong Kong Back. Before it it was them staring at $8 and working down and coming back the ride was a little higher.

Also ate lunch at a little restrauant across from Hong Kong (street side not alley side). Beefsteak, rice, beans chips, slasa and coke for $3. 25. Actually pretty good. Looks like a hole in the wall.

You are right Madison, at the time I was thinking its pretty risky and stupid, since you can get a Hotel for 5 or 12 dollars. At one point she wanted to leave the lot and go somewhere more private so we could do full service, but I thought that would be way more risk, since it seems like every other car in that area is a police car. But for the most part are cloth remained on and it seemed like a good way to pass time so no one was driving drunk. Every now and then the lot attendant would walk by the car but it seemed pretty safe. If anything I would think she might be concerned about her reputation, since she uses this lot everyday. But I have noticed reputation does not seem to be something these girls worry about.

Quick question. How much is the taxi from the border (Tijuana side) to the Tijuana airport?

The average seems to be $10. 00 but the best way is to ask before you get in the cab. When he gives you the price. Tell him no. $10. 00. Usually they drop the price as you start looking for another cab.

There is also the Airport Only taxi's when you go from the Airport back to the Border. They try to inflate the price because they are "exclusive". The fare should be no more than $15. 00. Again. Negotiate before you get in the Taxi. And be ready to walk away.

Sometimes I tell the guy just bring me to the Taco Stand just past the first left turn heading to the border. Get out. Pay $3. 00. Eat some tacos. Wave down a yellow cab coming back from the airport (not allowed to pick up a passenger) and pay the normal $6.00 back to the border.

Taxi's it is better to pay in pesos especially with the exchange rate the way it is. They wanted $20 to get to Rosarito but when I said ok 200 pesos is good they would take it. At some point it gets to be too much but one night I felt cheap and told a guy I'd pay him 15 he said no, I walked away and he changed his mind quick. It would cost me $15 in gas to drive that here in the states. If you're going there a lot though I would get one taxi driver you know and call or text him when you need him, then you know prices and can trust the guy. You could also make sure to get english speaking taxi drivers.

This is an interesting article I saw. It's so true but at the same time the US is finally doing the right thing instead of footing the bill. I met some very serious criminals deported from the US in Tijuana, they weren't bad guys they just grew up in bad neighborhoods. What's funny is these guys were good people that killed or attempted to kill people because that's what they were raised to think was necessary, but in Tijuana it doesn't take being in a gang to survive it takes money so they work their asses off for way less then minimum wage. I don't think the problem is as bad as they make it out to be, for the % of guys I met that were deported vs the crime I saw the numbers don't add up. Mexico is their prison.
