o.k. you are a generous guy. and you are right this was indeed the critical point where you lost control of the speeding vehicle already.

but the important lesson is learned. you cannot pay in advance under any circumstances in a free lance environment. some guys even hate soapies due to paying in advance before the service is received.

its also important not to loan thai girls (or other thais) money unless you don't want to ever see them again. they will not meet you for fear of you trying to get something back. if you want to see them some more you have to be absolutely clear that its just a gift and not a loan so they might come back to extract more lol. :d

the larger the amount, the less likely you are to see them, since they will be too embarassed to show themselves.

apologies to the thai girls that are rare exceptions. honest girls do exist! i only have met one that i could guarantee.

How much for a girl for 3 days? There is no set limit. They will let you pay as much as you can. If you are looking to get by for as little as possible pick up a freelancer so you will avoid paying a bar fine. Good place to do this in Bangkok would be The Beer Garden on Soi 7, The disco in the Nana Hotel or in the Nana hotel bar. Gullivers bar would be another choice. You may well get a freelancer for 1,000 to 1,500bt per day. They don't usually list a multi day discount but it is pretty much up to your ability to strike a deal.

After I sent the family home on Sunday I had lunch with a girl from Long Gun at Big Mama (great restaurant). Since I was leaving early Monday morning she said I had to come back to Soi Cowboy for the Songkran festivities. So at 3PM or so I found myself in a scene very similar to that in the pics. Amazing time! Made me really wish I wasn't heading back to work the next morning.

Next year I'll plan to be around during more of Songkran!

Yesterday was a difficult day - as The Nation called it the red shirts tried to implement some "urban-terrorism tactics" spread over several spots in Bangkok. Nevertheless - up to now they failed to mobilise enough "critical mass" support.

I think that today will already be much more quiet than yesterday, and we will see the protests shrink to a few spots in Bangkok, mainly to the area around the Government House. Even the UDD organizers admitted that things got out of control and protesters ran their own show - they will most likely try to turn the demonstration into a peaceful rallye again, because they know that they are losing the support of the people if they proceed with violence.

If you stay in the Sukhumvit area there should not be any problem at all. As for the Sathon, Chinatown, Dusit area - wait until Wednesday before you make a decision - if things are not sorted out until Wednesday all this will last longer.

10:00: I just heard several loud explosions off in the direction of where the protestors are.

It's 10:26 and the soldiers are moving in on government house. I just heard 2 more explosions.

The military just issued a statement (10 am) that there will NOT be any action to disperse the demonstration at the Government House.

The protests there was called a "legal demonstration".

New reports (11:05) say that the redshirt leaders are about to surrender and have ordered the protestors to disperse.

Thanks fo the update, its good to know that things seem to be getting better, I guess I will await your opinion and wait till Wednesday, its not every month that I get a chance to come here, waitng for this since a whlile, but don't want to ruin the whole experience by coming at the wrong time, so please keep me posted.

What is the scene otherwise in the major shopping areas paragon, central etc. I tried contacting someone, got no response on the phone. Dunno why they were closed songkran or the protests.
