Blacklisted, I wasn't bragging. It's inconvenient and unfortunate that it came across like that, it's one of the perils of typing messages, let alone from my phone. I just happen to do business with many gov. People and I just reported a few things of what I hear.

I noticed you're a KTV fan, just like me, so if you're after the low end places, it doesn't get better than Suzhou (proximity wise). For most locals, SZ is Shanghai's playground, it's cheaper and less 'commercial', and it definitely does not attract all the attention of LE and is unaffected by all the international events happening in SH.

I think you would enjoy the 'mini vegas' KTV strip on the outskirts of SZ. The place is known as Mudu Town in pinyin, or? In Mandarin.

Any cab driver knows the place. What you get is about 50 KTV's all lined up for you on both sides of the street. Definitely not high end, and with girls oozing from every establishment, it doesn't get more 'local' than that.

One of the hidden spots is Top Show, trust me, the place is a diamond in the rough. I can't recall the street address on top of my head, but I'll get a card next time I go back in the following weeks.

I was in Shanghai for business a couple of weeks ago. It seems like Singapore's Orchard Tower is better and cheaper than Tongren Lu, so I skipped that and instead went to check out the BBS scene. A couple of posts referred to Xiaomuqiao Lu, and sure enough there is a long stretch with BBS stores between Xietu Lu and the highway.

This was about 4 in the afternoon, so no traffic and a couple of the places were closed. I walked down the entire street (from north to south), checking out the goods. I would just like to report that happy town (search the forum if you are not familiar with this address) has developed with a lot of new BBS places. Many young and beautiful girls. For a foreigner 150 RMB FS per shot. No need to pay more. A bit annoying are the many police cars going up and down the street.

The best option of getting there is by taxi. No subway stop nearby.

The room was nice but way to hot. Tried to get the temperature down but it was still somewhat unpleasant.

The session was a standard sauna session with cat bath and hot and cold bbbj. Nothing memorable about the session at all unfortunately. Maybe I was unlucky with the girl I picked, but since I told the manager it was my first time I think he could have suggested a good performer, but instead he left me with only a chinese speaking guy at the fish bowl.

Will try other saunas before I even think about returning.

The atmosphere is one of the best, but the girls I had were also very standard in their performance. I just want to share something I could imagine happening here.

Usually a room (they are all smallish), as these aren't the Palace size type KTV's, will run you not more than 1, 000rmb. Tip for the girls are about 200, then if you take out it is between 400 and 600. Keep in mind that I always go there with locals, so your mileage may vary.

The skanky one (Top Show) is a little more than 1000 (all inclusive for the room), but the girls take out tips vary a lot depending on the quality. Let's say 400 for low end up to 1200 for the gems.

Surprisingly, the 151 Club in SH, is not much more expensive, it largely depends if you go for whisky/brandy or stick with beer. Girl take out is between 800 for the 'normal' girls or 1200, for the 'blue-tag' ones who are those cube platform dancer types you see at dance clubs around town.

At 151, several do speak a little English and some are almost fluent.

I'll post the Top Show info most likely in mid June when I am back to SZ.

Jackson is absolutely right in saying that LE knows better about mongering places than we do. This is their job and not their hobby.

However, before every international event like the Olympics or the Expo 'they' get quite paranoid about coverage in the international press about prostitution, sexual traficking, etc. that is why they focus on the 'establishments' frequented by foreigners i.e. Places known to the foreign community. We experienced that in Beijing last year and it will probably be the same for the Expo.

Please be careful with whom you share addresses and telephone numbers. A relative safe way may be to use PM, or request a tel number to response to information requests by sms.

Went to a KTV and after a very short time decided to leave. The "bill" was no where near what was discussed and the more I protested, the more large and angry looking Chinese men showed up. The whole thing set me back over $1, 000 USD. I put it on a credit card (cause I certainly didn't have that kind of cash on me). Has anyone else made this mistake before? Any luck protesting the charge with the CC company? I scrawled a very illegible signature and they did not imprint my card (although they did swipe it). I'm so pissed at myself right now and am hoping there may be some form of recourse.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

- For one, to Jackson's point, LE is REALLY well informed of what's going on, in China of all places. There's no debating that.

-At the same time, to Beijing Fox' point, and repeating myself from a few posts ago, these raids are selective in that they're not aimed at cutting the whole thing down (which could be done in NO TIME if they wished, no more than 2 months), but at PRETENDING that the whole thing is being put under control, just for looks.

-Premium targets are popular Lao Wai joints, as these are the ones that might get wider coverage with local Expat residents and Forums like this one, plus the international press. Who cares in London if a local massage parlor has been raided in Hebei and a bunch of locals taken into custody for a few weeks?

-Local LE can easily get intelligence here on what's popular with Lao Wai, there's no debating that. I'm convinced that B2 ran into hard times in part because of that (linked to maybe connections going sour, etc), and others will too.

-Well connected joints will be tipped off before anything happens, unless something grossly illegal goes on. There's no debating about that. That info is usually passed on to FOREIGN regular customers by the girls themselves.

-Again, I'm not an expert but I think I understand the country reasonably well. You can take my advice for what it's worth, but I'd recommend that visiting Lao Wai:

-Stick to well-known places popular with LOCALS, which means that they have the strongest connections (and will want to avoid the embarrassment of a high-profile official being caught there).

-Sauna joints of less well known LOCAL hotels (like Merrylin Sauna in Pudong, in front of Inter Continental Hotel)

-Small, isolated neighborhood places, NOT being part of a "strip" as was the case in Pudong Nan Lu / Wei Fang Lu BBSs.

-Or take away from places like TRL, where nothing "obvious" happens on the premises.

IMHO, higher risk venues are:

-Sauna places with high Lao Wai to Local Ratio (as was the case with B2).

-In central business areas of town (again, B2).

-Or lower-quality places being part of a strip where it's blatantly obvious what's going on, and neighbors will have complained to LE for sure (such as BBS strip in Pudong Nan Lu). Neighborhood complaints are becoming more and more taken care of these days, and local politicians and media pay a lot of attention to that.

Would I stop mongering altogether these days? No, but I'd certainly keep more vigilant.

It also happened to me and I felt violated. So, here's what I did. I signed a different name on the receipt, lost the card on a busy street and then reported it lost/stolen. When I checked on recent charges I found one that I did not make and it was removed without any issue. I had to file a claim but got the money back.
Not proud of it but I would do it again as I felt they were fraudulent charges.

Wonder if that would make the "lost/stolen card" claim any more difficult since obviously the ATM machine will have me on camera attempting to use it today.
