Wow, thanks for the many replies.
I decided it just wasn't worth the risk of being turned back, even if the airline is responsible for my return. Getting right back on that plain after 19 hours of traveling would suck big time!
So here's my research and solution:
I contacted the airline and the Thai Consulate this morning and both gave me the same answer - NO, I will not be allowed entry to Thailand with my current passport.
But the woman at the consulate mentioned that I can go the nearest Federal Building and possibly have my passport renewed the same day. I called the USDOS number and they also agreed that this is possible, for a fee. I would also have to bring an airline ticket or confirmed itinerary to prove I'm desperate (Hmm, isn't driving to your regional Passport office proof enough!) Luckily a Federal Building is only an hour drive away. So I set up an appointment for the morning, and hopefully by the afternoon I'll have a brand new passport!!!
Will keep you posted.

You could try what I did when applying for my Brazil Visa, since they also require that you have an airline ticket. (Note that at the time I was not sure about my travel dates but knew I would be traveling within 90 days.)
Buy a 100% refundable airline ticket (yes, they are pricey) with your credit card and print out the receipt/itinerary. Present this as proof that you need an Expedited Passport (or Visa). Once you receive the document, cancel the ticket and get a full refund credited back to your card.
Worked for me.

Check in and check out rules are clearly advised in any hotel of the world and are pretty much similar.
Whether you are given the room before the check in time, is a courtesy of the establishment, whilst it is no arrogancy to deny that.
Simple trade rules. And practical rules too: a bit difficult to give you a room at 10am is that is occupied by a leaving guest whose check out is at 12 noon.
I trust you would also like your new room to be freshened up and cleaned after the previous guest has checked out...
If they charge a bit for the extra hours is a free host choice, that the guest can also not accept and just wait till check in time (usally appr 3pm).
Would you rent your car for 30 hours and get the fee of 24hrs'

From what you can read on the US version of this site, your guess on prices at AMP's is fairly close to the mark (negotiating skills and local markets can throw a few highs and lows into the mix though). Then again, most of the women have more than a few miles on them, to say the least, and then there's the rushed nature of most of the AMP's. On the flip side, you can (or so it is reported here) still get a good-looking Thai bargirl for roughly the same price for the whole night, multi-pops included (again, or so I have read here). To me, it's almost a no-brainer: much more bang (ing) for the buck in Thailand. Part of the reason I'm in the middle of planning a trip myself.

Get real[/QUOTE]Well, I can certainly say I have never needed to pay an airline to change my name, perhaps its because I know how to spell it in the first place when I book a ticket. As for minor changes again never had to pay, you must be buying super cheap charlie tickets if you have to pay for changes.
All hotels have policies, but most will not implement such minor ones as check in times.
I stay in hotels for around 200 nights a year, and not one will ever charge for early check in (even though I am checking in to some at 6am and 7am and 8am etc..)
Most will give late check out to 3pm or 4pm with no extra charge to.
With regards to them not having a room available at time of check in, they usually give me a breakfast or coffee shop coupon whilst I wait for a room to be cleaned, and then check in early once its done. Thats with no charge and they are giving me free things to pass the time whilst the clean the room.
Any establishment that really attempts to charge for early check in is a disgrace really in terms of service and "hospitality" and that is the nature of the business.

I couldn’t stop laughing and told him that almost every little town , city or what ever in the US is named after places in Europe with similar names , this due to immigrants from Europe more than 200 years ago.
They just continue to argue with me that this was impossible since America was older than Europe etc , at least it was the try worth to make a correction on there history knowledge .

This is not a ladyboy forum. For that you would have to go somewhere else. This forum is for real girls.

While I've seen a few tall girls in the bars over the years, they are the exception rather than the rule. I've recently been to the bars a few times, after an absence of several months and had forgotten just how diminutive most of the bargirls actually are, particularly those from places like Buriram and Surin. They kind of remind me of the chattering monkeys, one sees running around Lampang.
The tallest girls you're likely see around Bangkok, tend to be Thai-Chinese and are largely un-approachable.
