Beware of the bouncer at Pontoon
I got robbed by him and his two friends at Christmas day.
Everything started out good, the music was good, quite some people and a decent number of attractive ladies.
After midnight I have had one drink too much so I dropped my glass on my way out from the toilet. Big mistake.
I was calm and said I was sorry, but even so I got brutally dragged in to a small room back side by the security guard and his two staff friends.
"You broke a glass!" he told me "and now you have to pay $20 because of that!
Once again I said I was sorry but he would not accept that for an answer and would not let me walk away.
I tried by giving him the money I had in my front pocket which was almost $10. Now remember that a glass in Cambodia costs around $1.
Then he searched all of my pockets for money and found my $20 bill in another pocket.
He took it away from me and then, after taking $20 away from me even though a glass is just $1 in Cambodia, they finally let me go.
Since I will be living here in Phnom Penh I would have been spending my money in their nightclub twice a week for a year or two, but since they could not treat me fair and had to rob me, I will Never go back there.
The first impression of Pontoon is that it is a good nightclub but no, if you make a small mistake, it's a very dodgy place, especially towards foreigners.
Raffles is def girl-friendly.
Totally recommended. And there are a vast number of hotels to choose from. PP specialises in smaller more boutique hotels than the large chain affiliated hotels and seems better for it. Similar to Hanoi. Much nicer once in a while to be in smaller place.
Stayed there in November for 5 days. No questions asked. Had a girl practically living there with me. But, yes, I always book a room for 2 persons (not that they checked).
Do Not get in Fights in a Foreign Country
You will, get robbed, sooner or later. No point to call the police, they are for sure all involved in this criminal activity.
It's not a good idea to get in a fight in a foreign country. Everything is stacked against. They'll gang up and beat the shit out of you. The Police will take their word. Yes, we'll get robbed here and there but try and stay street smart and courteous. I understand that your glass fell and broke. I personally would have offered to pay for the glass before the whole drama got out of hand. They would have asked for more than it's worth, so be it. It's only money. Enjoy the visit and forget about the incident. I have never had any problems in Pontoon.
